Arthur Kitchener Spencer 2001 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: October 29, 2001. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Arthur Kitchener Spencer, 85, Roseway Manor, Sandy Point, formerly of Clyde River, died October 28, 2001, in the manor. Born in Wood's Island, he was a son of the late Arthur and Suzanna (Young) Spencer. He served with the Merchant Marines during the Second World War. He later joined the Department of Transportation as a radio operator and was stationed at various locations, the last being the Loran Station at Baccaro from where he retired in 1975. He was warden and treasurer of the Church of the Ascension, Barrington Passage for many years. he was a member of the Barrington Area Lions Club and Royal Canadian Legion, Scotia Branch 25. His hobby was gardening, especially flowers, which he took great pride in. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; son, Sidney (Virginia), Grand Lake; sister, Florence, Washinton, D.C.; sister-in-law, Mary Spencer, Fredericton; grandchildren, Melanie, Kevin; great-granddaughter, Sydney; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters and three brothers. At his request, cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 3, in Church of the Ascension, Barrington Passage, Rev. Charles Bull officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Church of the Ascension General Fund or Roseway Manor which was his home for the last five years. Burial will be at a later date in Grace Church Cemetery, Western Head. Arrangements are under the direction of H.Huskilson's Funeral Home, Barrington.
