Merle Stuart Swaine 2004 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Tuesday, September 14, 2004. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Merle Stuart Swaine, 81, Shag Harbour, died September 12, 2004, at Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Shag Harbour, he was a son of the late Harold and Bessie (Banks) Swaine. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Cape Breton Highlanders in France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, and Holland. He was a member of the Guiding Light Baptist Church, Shag Harbour. After the war, he operated a grocery store for 30 years. He was an avid Blue Jay fan. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a lobster fisherman until his retirement. He is survived by his wife, the former Ivy Nickerson; sons, Kevin (Wanda), Darrell (Sarah), Shag Harbour; daughters, Linda (Carl) Moulaison, Yarmouth; Rosalie (Paul) d'Entremont, West Pubnico; brother, Lewis (Pauline), Shelburne; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Lloyd. Visitation will be from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in H. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Barrington. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Guiding Light Baptist Church, Pastor Danny Jack officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Shag Harbour. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, Guiding Light Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
