Melvin A. Grant 2003 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Tuesday, July 22, 2003. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Melvin A. Grant, 92, Brooklyn, Queens County, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 19, 2003, in Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay. Born September 22, 1910, in Fraserville, Parrsboro, Cumberland County, he was a son of the late Charles annd Laurette (Allen) Grant. Melvin was a former employee at Bowater Mersey Paper Company for 40 years and several of those years he served as groundwood superintendent. He was a regular contributor to the Liverpool Advance for a number of years and was a member of the National Firearms Association. He was an avid hunter and gardener. He is survived by his daughter, Sylke, Springhill; his daughter-in-law, Margie, Simcoe, Ontario; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; six great great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen; his second wife, Lieselotte; daughter, Marguerite "Peggy;" son, Melvin Jr.; sister, Jessie; brother, Preston. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 24, both in Chandlers' Funeral Chapel, Liverpool, Rev. Linda Kuschnik officiating. Burial will be in Zion United Cemetery, Payzant Street, Liverpool. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
