Elvin James Conrad 2003 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Thursday, November 13, 2003. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Elvin James Conrad, 75, First South, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2003, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in First South, he was the son of the late Simon and Vera (Lohnes) Conrad. In his earlier years, he worked as a mechanic with Lunenburg Foundry and Engineering; later he drove the school bus for the Municipality of Lunenburg for 17 years. Elvin was also a self-employed truck driver and backhoe operator who worked as a subcontractor with the Department of Transportation. He was a member of First South United Church, an elder, member of choir and former member of Board of Stewards. Elvin was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his wife, the former Elva Zinck; sons, Leslie, Wayne, both of First South; grandchildren, James and Charlene. He was predeceased by sister, Marguerite and grandson, Matthew Conrad. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg, with visitation 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday in First South United Church, Rev. Grace Caines-Corkum officiating. Interment will be in First South Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First South United Church, First South Cemetery or to a charity of choice.
