OBIT # 9524 - UNKNOWN PAPER - February 1949 Dean - There passed peacefully away on 31 January 1949, at Dean, Upper Musquodoboit, Mrs Blackie Dean, after a brief illness. She was tenderly cared for by her son and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs J. Allie Dean, with whom she made her home. She was the former Mary Ellen Cox, the eldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Andrew Cox and was born on May 14, 1863 at Tafalgar, Guysborough County. She spent the most of her life in Upper Musquodoboit. Surviving are three daughters Aggie (Mrs Albert Johnson) Bible Hill, Barbara (Mrs Fogal), South Weymouth , Mass., Laura (Mrs William McPhee) in Florida. Three sons, William, North Arlington, Mass., Allie and Andrew in Upper Musquodoboit. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs Jane Noon, Mrs Stillman Bishop and Mrs Charles Lyman , all of Massachusetts. Three brothers, James Cox in Riversdale, Osborne Cox in Newton Mills, and Andrew Willie Cox in Upper Musquodoboit. There are also 44 grandchildren, 88 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Her husband predeceased her 14 years ago, also two daughters, Sarah (Mrs Eugene Dean) and Mrs James Taylor. The funeral service was held at the home and was conducted by Mr Fife of Truro and direcred by Mattatalls of Truro. Pallbearers were six grandsons: George, William, Lester, Donald Russelll and Ralph Dean.
