Russell Perry Nickerson 2000 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Thursday, May 18, 2000. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Russell Perry "Duke" Nickerson, 78, Carleton, Yarmouth County, died May 16, 2000, in the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. He was a son of the late Roy and Nettie (Allen) Nickerson. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the 5th. Infantry of the British 8th. Army. He served in Labrador, Newfoundland, Britain, and North West Europe. He was employed with Superior Ice Cream. He was a woodsman and mill worker all his working years. As an outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also liked picking Bluegrass on the guitar. Surviving are his daughters, Paula (Mrs. Gerry Burgess), Connie Nickerson, both of Yarmouth; Bonnie Nickerson, Carleton; Shelly and husband Howard Hines, Kemptville; Sherry (Mrs. Patrick Scott), Argyle; sons, Perry (Barbara), Ontario;Bruce (Beverly), Kentville; Brian (Helen), Kelvin(Marlene), Kevin, all of Carleton; brothers, Randall, South Ohio; James, Annapolis Valley; Chester, Port Maitland; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Pauline; brothers, Vernon, Roy, Nathaniel, and Wallace; sisters, Emily, Fannie, Ester, and Annie. No visitation by request. A graveside service 11 a.m. Friday in the Carleton Cemetery, Pastor Robert LeBlanc officiating. No flowers please. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
