Born April 29, 1923, in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late Thomas and Frances (Deveau) Muise. He was a veteran of the Second World War and he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 61, Yarmouth. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Marjorie Muise; sons, Ronald (Alice) and George (Shirley), both of Ontario; daughters, Betty Baker, Yarmouth; Bernice Goulet, Florida; four brothers; six sisters; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters. Visitation will be from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today with a Legion service at 7 p.m., followed by prayers at 8 p.m., all in H. M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. The funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 15, in Saint Ambrose Cathedral, Yarmouth, Father Leo Maillet officiating. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Yarmouth. It has been requested that there be family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to Yarmouth Hospital Foundation.

    3. Gladys Remby 1978 Bridgewater Bulletin Gladys Remby of West Dublin, who has recently been living at 64 Helene Avenue, Dartmouth, passed away August 10, in the Camp Hill Hospital. She was born at West Dublin, March 13, 1891, the daughter of the late Captain Fred and Mary Ann (Sponagle) Remby. Miss Remby was predeceased by her sister, Nellie Benjamin of Brookfield, Colchester County, and is survived by her sister, Myrtle and nephew, Fred Lohnes, California; nephew, Fred Benjamin, Dartmouth; three nieces, Margaret, Gladys, and Mary; several grand and great-grandnieces and nephews. She was a member of the United Church in West Dublin and served several years as organist and choir member. Among her many interests were painting in oils and the writing of poetry. Over the years many of her poems have been printed in the Bridgewater Bulletin. The funeral was held on Monday, August 14 in Sweeny's Funeral Chapel with Rev. M. Carter officiating. Interment was in the Brookside Cemetery, West Dublin. Flowers were sent by the family, relatives, and N.I.P. staff, Dartmouth. Donations, in lieu of flowers, were sent to the United Church, West Dublin.

Born in Wood's Harbour, she was a daughter of the late William George and Laura Gladys (Goreham) Mahoney. She was formerly Town Clerk of Yarmouth and later worked for the Yarmouth School Board until her retirement. She also served as a Justice of the Peace. In 1967, she was awarded a Canadian Centennial Medal in recognition of her service to the town. She was a member of Beacon United Church and the Yarmouth Hospital Ladies Auxiliary;also served her church and community as a Sunday School teacher, member of Beacon Church, Board of Stewards, Yarmouth Minor Hockey, Yarmouth Arena Commission and the Canadian Cancer Society. She is survived by her husband, Jack, Yarmouth; brother, Maurice (Becky) Mahoney, Yarmouth; close nephew, Bill (Marilyn) Mahoney, Cole Harbour, and their children, Melissa and Derek; nephews, Randy (Kim) Mahoney and Jerry (Cheryl) Mahoney, Yarmouth, John Mahoney, Ontario; nieces, Laura (Randy) Muise, Yarmouth; Mary Ann Mahoney, Ontario. She was predeceased by brother, Gerald (Virginia) Mahoney and sister, Kathleen. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home. No visitation by request. Funeral 3 p.m. Friday in Beacon United Church, Yarmouth. Rev. Leslie Robinson and Rev. A.D. "Bill" Newell officiating. Burial in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. The community was saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Jack Nash (Louise) which took place at her home on Monday evening. Mrs. Nash was seventy years old. Born in Dalhousie East, she was the daughter of the late Nathan and Maria (Oickle) Fancy. Mrs. Nash was married three times. >From her first marriage to Norman Lowe, there are two chidlren, Hilda (Mrs. Rex MacKaY) of Pinehurst and Emmerson of Dalhousie East. Her second husband was Obediah Varner of New Germany. Five daughters are Gladys (Mrs. Max Tipert); Helen (Mrs. Clifton Sleep); Lucy (Mrs. A.L. Cunningham); Hazel (Mrs. Merlyn Wright); Muriel (Mrs. Allison Hicks), of Westphal; and one son, Robert, of New Germany; also fifteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are husband, Jack Nash; one sister, Alma (Mrs. Fred Oickle) of Dalhousie East; and one brother, Guy Fancy of Dalhousie East. The funeral service was conducted at the New Germany Anglican Church on Wednesday morning with Rev. E.B. Doherty officiating. Interment was in Lakeside Cemetery.

    3. OBIT # 9524 - UNKNOWN PAPER - February 1949 Dean - There passed peacefully away on 31 January 1949, at Dean, Upper Musquodoboit, Mrs Blackie Dean, after a brief illness. She was tenderly cared for by her son and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs J. Allie Dean, with whom she made her home. She was the former Mary Ellen Cox, the eldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Andrew Cox and was born on May 14, 1863 at Tafalgar, Guysborough County. She spent the most of her life in Upper Musquodoboit. Surviving are three daughters Aggie (Mrs Albert Johnson) Bible Hill, Barbara (Mrs Fogal), South Weymouth , Mass., Laura (Mrs William McPhee) in Florida. Three sons, William, North Arlington, Mass., Allie and Andrew in Upper Musquodoboit. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs Jane Noon, Mrs Stillman Bishop and Mrs Charles Lyman , all of Massachusetts. Three brothers, James Cox in Riversdale, Osborne Cox in Newton Mills, and Andrew Willie Cox in Upper Musquodoboit. There are also 44 grandchildren, 88 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Her husband predeceased her 14 years ago, also two daughters, Sarah (Mrs Eugene Dean) and Mrs James Taylor. The funeral service was held at the home and was conducted by Mr Fife of Truro and direcred by Mattatalls of Truro. Pallbearers were six grandsons: George, William, Lester, Donald Russelll and Ralph Dean.

Anna worked in the housekeeping department of Queens General Hospital for over 20 years until her retirement. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Wolfe (Dwight Stafford) of Milton; son, James (Debbie) of Milton; stepdaughters, Beverley (Thomas) Whynot of Liverpool and Joanne (John) Wolfe of Milton; stepsons, Stephen of British Columbia; Tim (Brenda), Richard, Kevin (June), Gary (Paula) and Byron (Julie), all of Liverpool; six grandchildren; 16 stepgrandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild; stepsister, Shirley (Al) Thornborrow of Toronto. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Cape Breton Highlanders in France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, and Holland. He was a member of the Guiding Light Baptist Church, Shag Harbour. After the war, he operated a grocery store for 30 years. He was an avid Blue Jay fan. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a lobster fisherman until his retirement. He is survived by his wife, the former Ivy Nickerson; sons, Kevin (Wanda), Darrell (Sarah), Shag Harbour; daughters, Linda (Carl) Moulaison, Yarmouth; Rosalie (Paul) d'Entremont, West Pubnico; brother, Lewis (Pauline), Shelburne; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Surviving are his wife Christina; a son Jack, Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren; three sisters Mrs. Gladys (OWEN) KLINE, Pomona, California; Mrs. Mary (LESLIE) LANGILLE, Tatamagouche; Mrs. Estelle (LOGAN) COULTER, Bayhead; and a brother Gerald, St. Clair Shores, Michigan. He was predeceased by his first wife Gretel and an infant brother. Mr. DOBSON went to Michigan in 1936 and was formerly employed as a bumper by Floyd Rice Ford Body Shop, Detroit. Scripture services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday from the Speller and Spetler Funeral Home, Royal Oak, with burial in Oakview Cemetery, Royal Oak, Rev. Thomas W. Eric was a ship's carpenter in the Merchant Navy, served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War and later worked as a carpenter until he was forced to retire when he lost his eyesight due to glauoma. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Mersey Branch No. 38, Liverpool and Wesley United Church in East Port Medway. He is survived by his daughter, Patsy Cross (Stan Lorenowich), Montreal; sons, Dennis, Liverpool; David (Judith), Newcombville; grandchildren, Christopher and Suzanne; great-grandchild, Machaela; sister, Dora Hatt, Liverpool. He was predeceased by his ex-wife, Inez (Wheeler); sister, Ethel; brothers, Gerald, Laurie, Harry, and Paul. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers' Funeral Home, Liverpool. She cared for many foster children over the course of many years. She was an avid seamstress; she also enjoyed doing craft works. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by daughter, Cindy (Gary) Fells, Yarmouth; cousin, Fred Whitehouse, Yarmouth; cousin, Florence Doucette, Yarmouth; grandchildren, Gary Jr., Vanessa, Melissa, and Tyrone. Gordon Beecher Spidle 2010 Halifax Chronicle Herald >From the collection of Charlene Veinotte Gordon Beecher Spidle, 85, of Mader's Cove, passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2010, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Northwest, he was a son of the late Guy and Annie Alegra (Ramey) Spidle. Beecher was a member of Northwest United Baptist Church and has served as deacon, trustee, Sunday School superintendent, volunteered on various church committees and was a member and past president of the Baptist Men's Brotherhood. He will be remembered for the beautiful woodwork he did in the church, the roll top desk donatied to Acadia University and the beautiful furniture made for each member of his family. In the life of his community, Beecher served as Fire Chief and Commissioner of the Mader's Cove Fire Department. He was employed with the Maritime Manufacturers for 35 years and Design Wood Products Nova Wood Craft for 17 years. Beecher is survived by his loving wife, Jean Elizabeth (Lantz); daughters, Cindy (John) Donovan, Dartmouth; Kathy (Kevin) Swimm, Upper Kingsburg; son, Timmy (Cathy Mills) Spidle, Jersey City/Lunenburg; grandchildren, Nicholas and Naomi Swimm, Jason and Cory Spidle; brother, Olin, Lunenburg. He was predeceased by sisters, Winnie, Dorothy, Grace, Beatrice, and Jean; brothers, Duncan and Lloyd; infant sons, Richard and Terry; son Dwight (five and a half years) and grandson, Kristian Swimm. Melvin was a former employee at Bowater Mersey Paper Company for 40 years and several of those years he served as groundwood superintendent. He was a regular contributor to the Liverpool Advance for a number of years and was a member of the National Firearms Association. He was an avid hunter and gardener. He is survived by his daughter, Sylke, Springhill; his daughter-in-law, Margie, Simcoe, Ontario; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; six great great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen; his second wife, Lieselotte; daughter, Marguerite "Peggy;" son, Melvin Jr.; sister, Jessie; brother, Preston. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, she was a daughter of the late James and Irene (Clarke) MacRae. Mary worked for 17 years at Stewart, McKeen & Covert in Halifax and later with Alan Ferrier until retirement. She was a lover of all animals and adopted many strays from the Shaid Tree Animal Shelter. Surviving are her husband, Randy "Bubba," daughters, Marlene (Joe) Colp, Wilmot; Dale Wamback (Mike Yahnke), Greenwood; Janice Braid (Ron Beach), Kingston, Ontario; son, Larry ,North Brookfield; brother, James (Bev) MacRae; sister, Carol Bennett (Ross), both of Hamilton; grandchildren, Lorraine Mansfield (Allan); Theresa Wamback (Sonny); Melissa Colp (Chris); Nicholas Watts; great-grandchildren, Dane, Gage, and nephews. She was loved dearly and will be sadly missed by her family and everyone who knew her. She also leaves behind her best friends, Abby and Boots. A private family service will be held in R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville, at a later date, Rev. Willis Ott officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shaid Tree Animal Shelter.

Born in Feltzen South on September 30, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Freeman and Martha (Spindler) Mosher. Uda was a member of St. John's by the Sea Lutheran Church, Feltzen South, where she was a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and belonged to the LCW/ELW. She was also one of the founding members of the Friendship Card Club. Surviving are her only daughter, Marina Creaser and son-in-law Leon; grandchildren, Cathy, Gregory (Barbara), all of Feltzen South; Shelley, Ottawa; great-grandchildren, Thomas and Isabelle, Feltzen South; sister-in-law, Norma Mosher, Medford, Massachusetts. She was predeceased by her husband, Wallace; brothers, Gerald, Alister, Irvin, Cyril, Melvin; sisters, Irene, Verna, Margaret, and Elsie. Uda will be dearly missed by her daughter, Marina, Leon, and her family and friends. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg, where funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m., Rev. Willis Ott officiating. No visitation by family request. Interment will be in Feltzen South Cemetery.     3. Rene Thomas Scott 2007 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Monday, October 15, 2007. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Rene Thomas Scott, 68, died October 12, 2007. Rene was born in Barrington, a son of Thomas and Ella (Lamrock) Scott. He is survived by his daughter, Sherri Lynn Wilson and granddaughter, Amanda, Peterborough; former wife, Carole Jean Scott; brothers, Everett, Stanley (Betty), Fred (Trudy), Phillip; sisters, Barbara Bent (Bill), Audrey Guild (Don), Carole Wilson (Al), Lillian Perry (Mervyn), Patricia Hudson, Ruth MacLeod; special niece, Donna Carter, whom he regarded as a sister, and many other nieces and nephews who loved and admired him. Rene will be remembered for his friendship and warmth. His interest in community and social events will long be appreciated. He was a life member of the Nova Scotia Guides Association into which he poured much of his time and passion. He was a member of the local fire department, a long-time and very active worker for the Barrington Fair, and was a dedicated worked for Christmas Daddies. He was announcer for all of the above activities plus many other community events. Rene enjoyed dressing in costume and entertaining. He was an avid camper. At his firepo ce, he welcomed anyone who would stop by for coffee and companionship. Rene was a professional meatcutter and turned his hand to many other vocations and skills. An early employment was as a crew member on the Oceanographic ship, Vema, out of New York, as told in his book, "R.V. Vema, a Seaman's Journal." Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be in Huskilson's Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. Feel welcome to share recollections at this time. Graveside service will be held in Riverdale Cemetery for family and friends on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Family flowers only.
