Fletcher Kendrick 1955 Bridgewater Bulletin Springfield- Tidings reached here January 10th., of the death on January 1st., of Mary Fletcher Kendrick, 76, at her home at Los Angeles, California. Mrs. Fletcher Kendrick, well-known historian and writer, was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alex Fletcher (nee Selina McNayr), of Falkland Ridge, Annapolis County. In addition to her literary pursuits, she taught in public schools in Nova Scotia, western Canada, and the United States. Surviving is one sister, Mrs. E.A. Gardner, of St. Petersburg, Florida. Predeceasing Mrs. Kendrick were a brother, Fred; and a sister, Elzina (Mrs. Robert Swallow), both of Falkland Ridge; also two sisters in the United States, Ethel (Mrs. Charles Leonard), Boston and Ellen (Mrs. Richard R. Beamish), authoress, of Los Angeles. Funeral services were held and burial took place in California. ( One of her historical works was "Down the Road to Yesteryear," a history of Springfield and area. )

    3. Mrs. Robert Swallow 1950 Bridgewater Bulletin Falkland Ridge Friends and neighbours were saddened to hear of the death of Mrs. Robert Swallow at her home here on Wednesday evening, March 1. Mrs. Swallow was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Fletcher, of Falkland Ridge and would have reached her 77 th. birthday on March 4. She was a member of the Baptist Church and active in the W.M.S. All who knew her appreciated a keen intellect and ready wit as well as her neighbourly ways. Her husband predeceased her in 1944 and a daughter, Ruth, died in 1920. Surviving are two sons, Willard and George and a daughter, Christina, Mrs. Sidney Andrews, all of Falkland Ridge. There are three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. There are three sisters, Mrs. Mary Kendrick and Ellen, Mrs. Richard Beamish, Los Angeles; and Emma, Mrs. Edson Gardner in St. Petersburg, Florida.

    3. Helen Swallow Wright Bridgewater Bulletin Word has been received by relatives in Blockhouse of the death of Helen Swallow Wright in Cambridge, Massachusetts, following a lengthy illness. Born in Nova Scotia sixty-eight years ago, she was the daughter of Harlan and Harriette Swallow. She is remembered here where she attended school before going to the United States with her parents. She is survived by her sister, Hazel Swallow, with whom she resided during her illness and a brother, Gerald, both of Cambridge; and an aged aunt, Mrs. Gladys Rafuse, Mahone Nursing Home. There are also a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Harriette, Marion, Hilda Payzant, Isobel Horne, and Thelma; also two brothers, George and Herman. The deceased rested at the Watson Funeral Home where a funeral service was conducted in the chapel with the Rev. Mr. Cleveland, rector of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Cambridge, officiating. Burial was in Mount Auburn Cemetery.

Born in Falkland Ridge, she was a daughter of the late Milford and Alice (Randall) Stoddart. She was a member of Kingston United Baptist Church since 1942, former teacher in Kings County and Eastern Annapolic County, former Evangeline Rebekah Lodge member. She and her husband spent 29 winters in Florida. She was a former Sunday School teacher. Surviving are her husband, Ralph, of 66 years; daughter, Bernice (Mrs. Kenneth MacLean), Margaretsville; son, Donald, Welton's Corner; sisters, Ella Armstrong, Kingston; Pauline Ward, Upper Granville; brother, Glenn, Harmony; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by brothers, Harold and Maurice and an infant brother; grandson, Derrill. Visiting will be 1-2 p.m. Saturday and funeral service 2 p.m. Saturday, both in Warren T. Born in Black River, Kings County, she was a daughter of the late Freeman and Lexie (Atwell) Levy Sr. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Aldon; sons, Clay (Wendy Fuller), Lake Ramsay; Allan (Nadine), Hebb's Cross; daughters, Laura (Rick) Turner, Lake Ramsay; Daisy (Donald Lenihan) Turner, Leville; grandchildren, Amanda Turner (Pat Ferenette), Kyle Turner (Jillian Zinck), Dillon Turner, Courtney Reeves (Kris Coolen), Dexter Reeves, Kaylyn Turner, and Keegan Turner. She was most proud of being a caring and devoted grandmother to her seven grandchildren and her "adopted" grandchildren, Edward Fuller and Olivia Lenihan. Mrs. Pearl Britten 1952 Bridgewater Bulletin Clyde Tufts, of Simpson's Corner, has been advised of the death of his sister, Mrs. Pearl Britten, who passed away suddenly at her home in Los Angeles, California. Mrs. Britten had visited her relatives here during the past summer and was apparently in excellent health. She had lived alone since the death of her husband and had passed away several days before her body was discovered by a friend. Mrs. Britten was formerly Pearl Tufts, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Tufts and was born in Simpson's Corner. She leaves one sister, Mrs. Edna Lutz, of Aylesford; four brothers, Cecil, Clyde, and Heber, Simpson's Corner and Horton Tufts, of Lynn, Massachusetts. Burial was in Los Angeles.

Donna Roxanne Wagner 1960 Bridgewater Bulletin The community of Union Square, as well as surrounding communities, were deeply shocked to learn of the sudden passing of Donna Roxanne, nine day old infant daughter of Loris and Phyllis Wagner. She appeared to be in good health since birth on March 19th. God called her home to rest on Monday, March 28. Left to mourn besides her parents are three sisters, and three brothers, Alice (Mrs. Ivan Silver), Watford; George, Wentzell's Lake; Wayne, Glenwood, Elizabeth, and Gladys ; at home; one nephew, Peter, Watford, as well as many aunts and uncles. Funeral services were held from St. Paul's Anglican Church, Union Square, on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. F.P. Purvis officiating. Interment was at Union Square Cemetery.

    3. Loris Glenwood Wagner 1977 Bridgewater Bulletin Loris Glenwood Wagner, 72, of 25 Sanford Road, Kentville, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 17, at his home. Although not in the best of health for several years, he was up and about as usual on that morning when he was suddenly stricken with a heart attack. His passing came as a profound shock to his wife, family, relatives, and friends. Born in Union Square, he was the son of the late Titus and Jeanetta (MacKay) Wagner. Most of his life was spent in Union Square with the exception of a few years in Quebec and the U.S.A. Sixteen years ago , he moved to Kentville where he spent his remaining years. Left to mourn the loss of a loving husband and father are his wife, the former Phyllis Mason; one son, Wayne of Kentville; two daughters, Elizabeth (Mrs. Lloyd Schofield), Baxter's Harbour; Gladys (Mrs. Michael Martin), Sheffield Mills; one step-daughter, Alice(Mrs. Ivan Silver), of Watford; and one step-son, George Hurshman of Kentville; a brother, Lloyd, Livermore Falls, Maine; two sisters, Lena (Mrs. Laurin Rhodenizer), Livermore Falls; and Bessie (Mrs. Russell Veinot), of Union Square; also 15 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Glenwood, a daughter, and a sister. The bodt rested at H.C. Lindsay's Memorial Chapel, Kentville.

Evelyn was born August 8, 1921, in Western Shore, and was a daughter of the late Stanley and Susan Sawler of Western Shore. She is survived by sons, Max (Jane), Martin's Point; Ronald (Donna), Middle Cornwall; daughter, Vivian (William) Verge, Martin's Point; brother, John Sawler, Bridgewater; sister, Irene (Selvin) Rafuse, Western Shore; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, George (Jack) Dorey; sons, Lawrence, Everett in infancy; daughter, Diane Hupman; brothers, Gilbert, Lester, Lawrence, Sydney, and Franklyn; sisters, Elsie Wentzell, Arliene Aulenback, Rosalie Walker, and Idella Sawler. Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, spending time with family and friends, and meeting new people. She is well known for her hand-hooked rugs, which were a favourite pastime of hers since childhood. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all of her family.     3. Ralph E. Rafuse 2009 Halifax Chronicle Herald >From the collection of Charlene Veinotte Ralph E. Rafuse, 88, Liverpool, passed away peacefully at home, March 11, 2009. Born in Milton, he was a son of the late Harvey and Edith (MacLeod) Rafuse. Ralph was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the West Nova Scotia Regiment overseas in Sicily and Italy and was wounded twice. Following the war, he worked for Richardson's Lumber Company, Liverpool Lumber Company, and Whynot Woodworkers Limited, retiring in 1980. After retirement Ralph continued his passion for carpentry building toys for children. Ralph was a member of Mersey Branch, No. 38, Royal Canadian Legion, West Nova Scotia Regiment South Shore Memory Club, Queens County Veterans' Club and Trinity Anglican Church. He is survived by his wife, Annabelle (Veinot); sons, Norman, Liverpool and Clarke (Linda), Milton; grandchildren, Evan, Brent, Michael, and Cassandra (Richie) Burgess; and brother, Roger, Milton. He was predeceased by sister, Dorothy Fralic. Visitation will be Friday evening, March 13, from 7-9 p.m. and a Legion memorial service will be held at 7 p.m., both in Chandlers' Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. At various times she was employed at Glady's Canteen at Hirtle's Beach; Wheel House Motel, Lunenburg; The Ovens National Park in Feltzen South; South Shore Sales; Ritcey and Creaser in Riverport. Sheworked at the Old Dawson Hospital and Fishermen's Memorial Hospital from 1966 until 1980. Myrna was a member of Riverview Rebekah Lodge No. 56, Riverport, where she was in receipt of her 60 year jewel and later the Alexander Rebekah Lodge, No. 22, Lunenburg, and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 23, uxiliary, Lunenburg. She was a member of Trinity United Church, Rose Bay. Frederick William Rhodenizer 2009 Halifax Chronicle Herald Frederick William Rhodenizer, 72, of Lunenburg, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Bridgewater, he was the son of the late Frederick and Del (Wagner) Rhodenizer. As a young man, Fred attended Kings College School in Windsor and was very involved in Army Cadets, winning many awards, including Best Cadet in the Maritimes. He was employed with the family-owned business, Fred Rhodenizer Electric, Bridgewater, during most of his working life. Fred was a generous and compassionate man who was always willing to reach out with a helping hand. His love of animals would often lead to the neighbourhood strays residing with the family. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Fred is survived by his wife, Frances Webber; daughters, Tosha (France Thibodeau) Rhodenizer, Ottawa; Ann (Scott) Morgan, Halifax; stepdaughters, Deborah (Scott McNeil) Beck, Grand Cayman Island; Shelly (Cecil Langille) Webber, Maitland; Kimberley Webber, Charleston; grandchildren, Dorian Thibodeaau, Jacob and Lindsey Morgan, Melanie Goulet, Alex and Joseph Langille. Lowe, 90, Martin's Point, died September 2, 2009, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Rev. Lowe was born in Blockhouse, a son of the late Peter and Cora (Levy) Lowe. He began preaching at the early age of 18 on the streets and the hillside and later served as a Pentecostal minister in many charges in Nova Scotia. Rev. Lowe is survived by his second wife, Essie (Dash); daughters, Joyce (William) Sarty, Western Shore; Donna (Evan) Morgan, Lower Sackville; son, Donald (Elaine) Lowe, Martin's Point; stepdaughters, Jane (Russell) Ringer, Osborne; Sandy (Troy) Coldwell, Gaspereau; stepsons, Terry (Vivian) Morash, Sable River; Peter (Rosa) Morash, Lockeport; Elliott (Kim) Morash, Sable River; Nelson (Donna) Morash, West Head; sister, Beulah Bone, LaHave; brother, Manuel (Violet) Lowe, Havelock, Ontario; and foster brother, Fraser (Donna) Hebb, Leminster; mnay grandchildren and great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. Rev. Lowe was predeceased by his first wife, Velma; and granddaughter, Susan. Family and friends may visit Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Davis Funeral Home, Chester. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday in Aenon Baptist Church, Chester Basin with Rev. Jack Hooper, Rev. Andrew Shupe, and Rev. Gary Dunham officiating. OBIT # 9554 - BRIDGEWATR BULLETIN - 30 MARCH 1913 Word has been received from Simon Peter DeLong of Calgary ,Alberta, bearing the sad news of the death of his wife, Nellie Murray, which occurred at the hospital in that city on Sunday morning, March 16th, after but three days illness of pneumonia. The deceased was a daughter of Zebular Murray and was born at North Brookfield. Her husband and son, Lorne, both of whom reside in the west, also a sister, Mrs. McBride of Maitland, Annapolis County, are the immediate relatives who survive. Mrs. DeLong was well and very favourably known here,being a resident of Barss Corner for about thirty years. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved husband and relatives.
