She will be sadly missed by daughter, Anne Eisnor, Indian Point; grandchildren, Michael, Indian Point; Deborah (Lance), Dartmouth; Christopher, Lunenburg; great-grandchildren, Jillian and Evan, Dartmouth; brother, Franklyn, LaHave Manor. She was predeceased by her husband, Linwood and son, Frederick, in 1978; sister, Bernice Ernst; brother, R. Lester Veinotte; son-in-law, Edward Eisnor. Elizabeth Louise Conrad 2007 Halifax Chronicle Herald >From the collection of Charlene Veinotte Elizabeth Louise "Betty" Conrad, 86, Lunenburg, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2007, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital. Born in Lunenburg, she was a daughter of the late John and Hilda (Conrad) Crouse. Betty married in 1942 to Marshall Conrad; their happy life together was suddenly saddened by the loss of their only child, David Marshall, in a drowning accident with two of his friends in September, 1967. Although life was never to be the same without their beloved David, they carried on sharing their life and their love and did many wonderful things together. In 1978, they moved to Newton, Massachusetts, where Marshall worked in the building industry and remained there until 1979, returning back to retire to Lunenburg in 1979. They continued their travels together, going to Florida where they spent their winters in Venice and enjoyed many cruises to southern countries, enjoying another milestone in their life together. In March of 2004, Betty lost her beloved husband, Marshall, who passed away after failing health. She remained in her home, her life continued on, however, her heart was with him. Betty was a member of Central United Church, Lunenburg, where in her earlier years she taught Sunday School. She will be deeply missed by so many. Betty will be lovingly remembered by her brother, Arthur and his wife Sylvia Crouse, Halifax; sisters-in-law, Phylis and her husband Warren Mosher, First South; Lucille Himmelman, Evelyn Crouse, and Jean Crouse, all of Lunenburg; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Marshall, and son, David; brothers, Basil and Lawrence. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg, where a service to celebrate Betty's life will be held Sunday at 2 p.m., Rev. Robert Zinck officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Born in East Berlin, he was a son of the late Henry and Alice (Whynot) Lohnes. Freeman was a fisherman all his life and loved to hunt and sport fish. He loved Newfoundland and enjoyed vacationing there. He was an avid dart player and loved playing poker with the "boys." He is survived by his companion, Teresa Smiley; daughter, Sherri Boudreau (Tim Wile), Conquerall Mills; son, Randy, Port Medway; stepdaughter, Stacy Smart, Halifax; and stepson, Tyler Smart, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Kristin, Jenna, and Andrew; sister, Violet (Ernie) Rhyno, Charleston; brothers, Lambert and Raymond, both of Ragged Harbour; and Bobby (Brenda), West Berlin. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Ann, and sister, Lalia. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and close friend, Marina Spidle and her family of Kingsburg. She was predeceased by her first husband, Marshall Risser; second husband, Basil Rafuse; sisters, Eva, Mildred, Bessie, Evangeline, and Beulah. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Reg served in the Second World War with the Merchant Marines and after the war he worked in Halifax with Western Union on the cable ship, the Cyrus Field, and later with Riverport Seafoods. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 24, Bridgewater, the Canadian Merchant Navy Association and a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Rose Bay. He is survived by his sons, Weldon (Karel) Oxner, Dartmouth; Dwayne (Audrey) Oxner, Smith Falls, Ontario; daughter, Iris Oxner, Clayton Park; brother, Raymond (Marjorie) Oxner, Lower LaHave; sisters, Evelyn Madden (Otis Mosher), Dayspring; and Ethel Brunelle, Halifax; grandchildren, Kari (Adam), Robin, David, Gillian, and Genevieve; and great-granddaughter, Adrienne. Born in Simpson's Corner, he was a son of the late George and Alma (Crouse) Emino. He moved to the United States as a child and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Second World War. He worked as a machine operator for 35 years. He leaves his wife, Dorothy (Taft) Emino, to whom he was married for over 61 years; son, Everett Emino, Gainsville, Florida and Simpson's Corner; daughters, Elinor Townsend and Janine Tully; sister, Gean Hamilton, all of Massachusetts; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was also the brother of Evelyn Martineau, who died in 1990. Funeral service was held January 29, in Upton, with burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, North Grafton, Massachusetts.     3. Mrs. W.B. Veinot 1920 Bridgewater Bulletin Upper Northfield- On Thursday afternoon, September 23rd., death visited the home of W.B. Veinot, claiming for its victim, his beloved wife. Mrs. Veinot had been ailing for over a year and yet her death was very sudden. She was a great sufferer but bore her sufferings patiently and passed peacefully away on Thursday. She was a good neighbour,willing to help all in distress and had a large circle of friends. She leaves to mourn their loss four sons, one married, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Veinot, Earl, Foster, and Lossie. She also leaves one grandchild, Dora; one step son, Burton Veinot of Jordan Falls and two step daughters, Carrie (Mrs. Thompson) and Lottie (Mrs. Cummings), of the United States. She was a faithful member of the Star of Promise Lodge, No. 222, I.O.O.F., and while in good health her seat was never vacant. A few weeks ago a large number of brothers and sisters of the lodge made a fraternal visit at her home. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. A.J. Reynolds, New Germany and the Star of Promise Lodge. The pall bearers were Brothers Lemuel Silver, Lemuel Penney, Henry Oickle, and Edmund Whynot. Brother Edwin Fancy had charge of the hearse and brother Hubert the flower wagon.Those who took part in the ceremony were brother George Lohnes, C.T., Brother George Penney, P.C.T., and Sister Mrs. Henry Oickle, Chaplain. The cortege was preceeded by the members of the order who formed a circle of unity around the mourners and grave and as they marched away each member dropped a white flower in the grave saying,"Farewell, Sister." (Elizabeth, Bessie, was the daughter of Solomon and Elizabeth(Oickle) MacKay.)

Born in Indian Point, he was a son of the late Lemuel and Luella (Heisler) Eisnor. During his earlier life he had been a fisherman. He was one of the last surviving crew members of the schooner Bluenose skippered under the famous command of the late Captain Angus Walters. Later in life he had worked for various construction companies in Halifax until his retirement. He was a member of the Union Church and the Indian Oak New Horizon Seniors Club, Indian Point. He is survived by his companion and longtime friend, Mae Allen, Mahone Bay; daughter, Carolyn Myra, Halifax and son-in-law, Aubrey Myra, Chester Basin; son, Gordon Eisnor and his wife, Jackie, Liverpool; sister, Alice Giffen and her husband Cyril, Halifax; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A tragedy in the lobster fishery off Morden, January 16, 2003, claimed the life of 26 year old Benji Tate Waybret, Clam Point, Cape Sable Island. Born in Shelburne, July 7, 1976, Benji was the youngest son of Cecil Waybret and Gayle (Smith) Waybret. Benji was a lobster fisherman for six years and was a member of the crew of the vessel "Pretty Knotty," along with Curtis Jones and Rick Spencer. He was a member of the "Hurricane" hockey team, played ball for the "Young Guns" softball team and was an avid golfer. Benji was also known to spend many enjoyable hours in front of his computer. He was especially fond of his kittens, Mookie and Gracie. Besides his parents, he is survived by brothers, Randy (Paula), Northeast Point; Trent (Yvonne), Clyde River; nephew, Luke; niece, Brittany; maternal grandmother, Helen Smith, Arcadia; many aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by paternal grandparents, Matilda and Timothy Ross; maternal grandfather, Melvin Smith.     3. H. Wilbert Silver 1956 Bridgewater Bulletin On November 16th., there passed away at his home in Upper Northfield, H. Wilbert Silver, at the age of 75 years and eight months, after an illness of only six days, due to a shock. He was born in Lower Northfield, son of the late David and Margaret Silver and resided on the old homestead until seven years ago when he purchased a home in Upper Northfield and with his wife lived there until his death. He is survived by his sorrowing widow, the former Effie Fancey and one brother, Walter, who in late years has been residing with him in the same home. One daughter, Sarah Margaret, predeceased him in infancy; also one sister, Bessie and two brothers, Lloyd and Angus. The funeral services on November 17th. were held from Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, of which the deceased was a member, Rev. Fischer, of the Northfield Parish, officiating. He spoke comforting words from Romans, 8th. chapter, verse 18. Interment was in the Northfield Cemetery. Hymns sung were "It is Not Death to Die" and "What a Friend we Have in Jesus." The pallbearers were Robert and Ray Fancey, Hubert Oickle, and Tupper MacKay.

Born in Wood's Harbour, he was a son of the late Desmond and Etta (Sears) Stoddard. He joined the army in 1941, travelling around the world. He served in the Second W orld War and the Korean Conflict, as well as serving in Egypt in peace keeping missions. He retired in 1967, after 25 years service. Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret Nicholson; daughter, Sheila, Dartmouth; son, William, Lake Echo; brothers, Alfie, Clarence, Wood's Harbour; sisters, Ella, Greenwood; Hilda, North Carolina; two grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Clyde was predeceased by his brothers, Gilbert and Fred; sisters, Sadie Salsman, Carrie Maugher, and Alice Salsman and parents, John (Amos) and Ida (nee Beck) Wentzell. Mrs. Sarah Catharine Robar 1950 Bridgewater Bulletin The death of Mrs. Sarah Catharine Robar occurred at the home of her son, Randall, at Newburne, early on Saturday morning, August 12, at the age of 79 years. Although in poor health for many years, her death came as a shock to her many friends. Her husband, Joseph, predeceased her four years ago on the exact date. She was the daughter of the late Eli and Caroline Frank, of Upper Cornwall. She is survived by four sons, Randall, of Newburne; Wilbert, of New Cornwall; Fred, Gold River; and Clayton, of the United States; also two daughters, Gladys Mrs. George Rafuse, of Brooklyn, Annapolis County; Cyrilla, Mrs. Harry Barkhouse, of Church Lake. Two daughters predeceased her, Myrtle, Mrs. Wallace Nauss and Alice, in infancy. There also survive two sisters, Mrs. Cyrilla Rafuse, Upper Cornwall; Hannah, Mrs. Angus Zwicker, of Gold River; and two brothers, Samuel and Fred Frank, of Upper Cornwall. Four brothers and four sisters predeceased her. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. The funeral service was conducted at the New Cornwall Baptist Church, of which she was a member, on Monday, by Dr. Simeon Spidle, of Mahone Bay. Interment was made in the United Church Cemetery, New Cornwall. The hymns sung were "Jesus, Lover of My Soul," "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." The pallbearers were Louis Dauphinee, Frank Dauphinee, Stanley Hallamore, and Arthur Zwicker.

Douglas George Angus Clattenburg 2008 Halifax Chronicle Herald >From the collection of Charlene Veinotte Douglas George Angus "Doug" Clattenburg, 73, Upper Cornwall, passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, October 26, 2008. Born in Kirkland Lake, he was the son of the late Angus Clattenburg and Luella Barton, Ontario. Doug joined the military at a young age and after 20 years of service, retired. After retirement, he spent the next 25 years as manager of CFB Curling Club in Halifax and retired in 1994. His entrepreneurship and hard work ethic never slowed as he was still working at his catering business "Stone in the House Catering" till the time of his death. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Doreen (Jefferies); sons, Danny (Frances), Donald (Diane), all of Dartmouth; daughter, Darlene, Ontario; grandchildren, Douglas, Annaleisa, Amanda, Brittany, Amanda, Michelle, Kristen and great-granddaughter, Hannah. Doug is also survived by sister, Margie; brothers, Harold, Ross, and Peter, all of Ontario. He was predeceased by daughter, Deborah. Doug's hard work only shadowed in the love of his family and especially his grandchildren. Doug will be greatly missed by all who knew, loved, and worked with him. Cremation has taken place and funeral arrrrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, Dartmouth. Graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.

    3. Lawrence C. Murphy 2000 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Friday, June 23, 2000. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Lawrence C. Murphy, 92, Dartmouth, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2000, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Northwest Cove, he was a son of the late Lemuel and Mary Jane (Setters) Murphy. He was a fisherman for many years and he also sailed on the Foundation Vigilant, deep see dredging. He retired from the Angus L. MacDonald Bridge at the age of 69 years. He is survived by daughter, Idella (Penny) Favier, with whom he resided for the past 35 years; Sharon, Ottawa; Albert, Halifax; nephews, John Murphy, Mill Cove; Lemuel Murphy, Bedford; special friend, Stephen Hodder. He was predeceased by his wife, Dora Winters; brother, Orville; sister, Winnie; daughters, Ethel Bowen and infant daughter, Effie. He was well loved and will be greatly missed by grandchildren, great-grandchiHoren, and many friends. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Dartmouth Funeral Home,QueenStreet, from where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the IWK Grace Health Centre.
