Born in North River, she was a daughter of the late Lorne and Celetes "Lee" (Eagles) Robar. Prior to her retirement she was an employee of Northern Telecom, Ontario and member of the Northern Telecom Pioneers Club. Surviving are her husband, James Demone; daughter, Arlette (Robert) Ryder, St. Thomas, Ontario; brother, Melvin (Sharon) Robar, North River; grandchildren, Stephen, Robert Jr., Michael, and Trevor, all of Ontario; great-granddaughter, Olivia; step great-grandson, Seth; many nieces and nephews. Matthew LeRoy Whynot 2005 Halifax Chronicle Herald >From the collection of Charlene Veinotte Matthew LeRoy Whynot, 32, Port Medway, passed away suddenly Thursday, September 8, 2005 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Liverpool, he was a son of Arnold and Nora Whynot of Port Medway. Matthew was employed as a machinst at Lunenburg Foundry and Engineering. He was involved as a volunteer firefighter for 14 years where he became the Fire Chief of Port Medway and District Fire Department. He was also a medical first responder and a medical trainer for St. John Ambulance. He was a wonderful, caring person, always willing to lend a hand to those in need. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Surviving, besides his parents, are his fiancé, Amanda; daughter, Emma; sister, Pearl, Bridgewater; brothers, Wade (Holly), Danesville; Mark (Kimberly), Pleasantville; nephew, Nicholas; nieces, Candace and Rebecca; maternal grandmother, Violet Wolfe, Milton; many cousins. He was predeceased by paternal grandparents, Freeman and Stella Whynot and maternal grandfather, Hastings Wambolt. Visitation will be this evening from 7-9 p.m. in Chandlers' Funeral Chapel, Liverpool. Funeral service will be Sunday, September 11, at 3 p.m. in Port Medway Baptist Church, Rev. Bruce Avard Mader 2008 Halifax Chronicle Herald >From the collection of Charlene Veinotte Bruce Avard Mader, 82, died peacefully in Dartmouth General Hospital on Thursday, March 6, 2008, following a lengthy illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Mahone Bay on August 16, 1925, to George P. and Gladys (Westhaver) Mader. He served 25 years in the Royal Canadian Navy, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. Following his navy service he worked in the real estate industry in Dartmouth. He is survived by son, Dennis Mader and his wife, Karen and their children, Rob, Michelle, Michael, and Marianne, Dartmouth; daughters, Betty Ann and her son, Devon, Dartmouth; Colleen and her husband Chris Rogers and their daughter, Laura, Ottawa. He is also survived by brother, Carl, Silverlake, Ohio and sister, Helen, Halifax. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Mildred (Sutherland) Mader; sisters, Molly, Marge, Milly, Jean, and his brother, Arthur "Buddy." His children remember his lively personality and many hobbies over the years, including clothes-making, watch-making, and spending time at his beloved Spondo retreat. He was an avid sports fan and never missed a Blue Jays game. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, Dartmouth. Visitation will take place on Sunday, March 9, from 7-9 p.m. A private family burial will take place on Monday, March 10. All friends and family members are welcome to attend an open house which will take place from 3-6 p.m. Monday, March 10, at the home of Dennis and Karen Mader, Dartmouth. Edward Charles Zwicker 2010 Halifax Chronicle Herald >From the collection of Charlene Veinotte Edward Charles Zwicker passed away March 3, 2010, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital, following a short illness with cancer. Born January 22, 1963, in Shelburne, he was the son of the late Hugh and Elsie (Nickerson) Zwicker. Charles worked at numerous jobs over the years. He greatly enjoyed the years he worked as a fisherman, serving with the crews on various sword-fishing and lobster boats. Later he trained as a carpenter and worked as a boat builder. He graduated with his high school diploma in 2009 from the NSCC Burridge Campus, excelling in Math and Physics. Charles is survived by his beloved daughter, Jennifer and adopted son, Andrew, both of Wood's Harbour; his older brother, Donald of Amherst; and his twin brother, Hugh (David Coverly), of Ottawa. He had many wonderful friends over the years in Shelburne, Wood's Harbour, and Yarmouth. Charles especially appreciated his friendships with Marie and Melvin, Tammy, Robert, Lorne, and Abel, who were a great hep to him during his illness. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. There will be no visitation or service at Charles' request. There will be a graveside service later in the summer in Upper Sandy Point Cemetery. Details will be published later.
Sarah Emily Wentzell 1938 Bridgewater Bulletin There passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, December 11, at the home of her son, Albert, New Canada, Sarah Emily Wentzell, widow of Archibald Wentzell, at the age of 85 years and ten months. She was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary Rhodenizer of West Northfield. She was an invalid for over thirteen years but she bore her sufferings with great patience. Her husband predeceased her over twelve years ago. She leaves to mourn her loss, six daughters, (Stella) Mrs. William Veinot, New Canada;(Alice) Mrs. William Young, Iva (Mrs. Lawrence Connell, both of Branch LaHave; (Ella) Mrs. George Arenburg, Midville Branch; (Beatrice) Mrs. Collin Lowe, Cookville; (Hazel) Mrs. William Carver, Wayland, Massachusettss; two sons, Herbert of Wayland; and Albert, at home; two brothers, Benjamin of Bridgewater; and Albert of West Northfield; also twenty grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The funeral was held on Tuesday, December 13, at 2 p.m. Interment was at New Canada Cemetery. The services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. V.J. Monk. The hymns sung were "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," "What A Friend we Have in Jesus," "Abide With Me," and "Will That be Yours and Mine" with Mrs. Earl MacKay taking the solo part. All but two of the family were present.

She enjoyed gardening and the outdoors along with being in the kitchen making pies, pickles, and meals for others which gave her great pleasure. Sharon's family was her love and joy. Her love of life, family, friends, and the community at large were so important to her. Vivian's quiet courage, strength of spirit, and sense of humour will be carried forward by all those who knew and loved her. OBIT # 9569 - UNKNOWN PAPER - 1962 TRURO - The last surviving member of what were believed to have been Canada's oldest twins, Mrs Ruth Archibald, died late Tuesday night in her 100th year.Her twin sister, Mrs Samuel Cox , died last May.The twins were born at New Annan, Colchester County, March 19, 1863, daughters of the late Daniel and Mahala (Munson) Graham. Their father was an uncle of the Nova Scotia giantess, Anna Swan. In 1887 the family moved to Eastville where each twin made her home until two years ago. Mrs Archibald married Rupert Archibald in 1889. He died in 1938. Survivors include one daughter Mrs Harry Bayers, Musquodoboit Harbour; A granddaughter, Mrs Scott Graham, Eastville, with whom she resided for the last four years, and two great-grandchildren. Two daughters died before her. The remains are resting at the Kennedy Memorial Residence. Funeral services will be held at the Springside United Church, Eastville on Friday at 2:30pm. Rev. Robert Anderson of St. James Presbyterian Church in Truro will conduct the service. Interment will be at Eastville cemetery.

L.M. McNayr 1950 Bridgewater Bulletin Because of the illness of the regular Lake Pleasant correspondent, the death of Lambert M. McNayr, age 85, at his home at Lake Pleasant, on Monday, March 6, has not been reported in the Bulletin. Mr. McNayr, only son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John McNayr, has for many years been a victim of diabetes. He will be remembered by his children as a kind father and by his neighbours as a man who was kind in times of sickness and affliction and by the public as a hospitable host. He was a farmer and a blacksmith until health failed. Mrs. McNayr, nee Della Durling, died seven years ago. Dead also are their elder son, Perry, of Springfield, Massachusetts and a daughter, Leila, Mrs. George McGregor, of Lynnfield, Massachusetts. Surviving are five daughters and a son, namely: Hope, Mrs. J. Dill of Lynn, Massachusetts; Myra, Mrs. E. Whynacht of Liverpool; Ora, Mrs. Charles Keating of Melrose, Massachusetts; Ruth, Mrs. Robert Freeman, of Purchase, New York; Jeanne, Mrs. Cyril Wentzell, of Maplewood; and Clyde of Springfield, Massachusetts. All of these except Mrs. Dill were at home at the time of the funeral. Many months ago Mrs. Wentzell and her husband came to live with the aged invalid and faithfully and patiently has Jeanne ministered to her father's needs, assisted at the last by her sisters and others. The flowers at the funeral on Thursday, March 9, were beautiful. Despite icy roads and prevalent flu, a goodly number attended the services which were conducted by Rev. Harold Telfer. Mrs. Lambert McNayr 1942 Bridgewater Bulletin The communities of Springfield, Lake Pleasant, and Falkland Ridge were saddened to learn of the passing of Mrs. Lambert McNayr at the D.M. Hospital Thursday. Mrs. McNayr had been in poor health for some time but her death came as a shock to relatives and friends. A life-long resident of this place, being born here 78 years ago, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Durling, her friendly and loving disposition won her many friends and she always had a smile and kindly word for all. She leaves to mourn their loss a loving husband; two sons, Clyde and Perry, both of Springfield, Massachusetts; five daughters, (Hope) Mrs. Joseph Dill, Massachusetts; (Myra) Mrs. Ernest Whynott, Liverpool; (Ora) Mrs. Charles Keating, Massachusetts; (Ruth) Mrs. Robert Freeman, New York; and (Jeanne) Mrs. Maurice Taylor, Kingston. One daughter predeceased her less than a year ago. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Cara McGrath, Long Island; and three brothers, Herbert of Hopedale, Massachusetts; Emory and Guilford of Springfield; also a number of grand-children. Interment was made at Springfield in the family lot. The floral tributes were many and beautiful. "She is gone and we shall miss her."

Born in North Sydney in 1933, she was a daughter of the late Cecil and Bessie (Burchell) Bragg and Florence (Herald) Bragg. Ethel was a devoted "stay-at-home" mom, before working with Covey's Footwear and then joining NSLC in Bridgewater from where she retired in 1994. She was an active member of the Bridgewater United Church for 40 years and gave of herself tirelessly to her family and many friends. Ethel is survived by her children, Dawn (Brian) Mosher, Bedford; Todd, Bridgewater and her much-loved grandchildren, Jayne and Sophie. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Bragg; brothers, Wayne Bragg, North Sydney; William Bragg, Ontario, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Vincent "Pat" Veinotte; son, David and a son in infancy; sister, Mary Elizabeth "Mae" Kibyuk; brothers, James, George, Morgan, and Russell. At Mom's request there will be no visitation at the funeral home. Visitation will be 4-6 , 7-9 p.m. Thursday in H. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Barrington. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday in Independent Baptist Church, Clark's Harbour, Rev. Stanley Fidler officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Lower Clark's Harbour. Memorial donations may be made to the Evergreen Cemetery, the Independent Baptist Church or any charity.
Graham Heman Gates 2003 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Friday, May 9, 2003. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Graham Heman Gates, 90, Blandford, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2003, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Blandford, he was a son of the late Heman and Phoebe (Publicover) Gates. Graham was a veteran of the Second World War, having served in the Merchant Navy for 11 years. A member of Branch No. 44, Royal Canadian Legion, Chester, he was also a member of the "Independent Order of Odd Fellow Manchester Unity" since 1947 including two years as Provincial Grand Master of Acadia District. He served as president of Blandford Seasiders Senior Citizens Club for two years and was a member of St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Blandford. He was also a founding member of the Blandford District Fire Department. He retired from CFS Mill Cove. He is survived by his son, Alfred (Chrystal), Blandford; brother, Ira (Lois), Birchy Head; sisters, Hilda Robinson, Victoria; Alice (Murray) Cooper, Halifax; three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Vella Perry; second wife, the former Eva Phillbrick; sisters, Dorothy, Pauline, Helen, Phoebe, Doris and sisters, Ruby and Jean in infancy; brother, Walter, in infancy. Family will receive visitors 2-4 p.m. Sunday, May 11, in Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home, Hubbards. Funeral service 2 p.m. Monday in St. Barnabas Church, Blandford, Rev. Randy Townsend officiating. Burial to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia or St. Barnabas Church Cemetery, Blandford.
