Mrs. Charles Whynot 1949 Bridgewater Bulletin Following a long and painful illness, the death of Mrs. Charles Whynot occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Floyd Arenburg, New Germany, on Tuesday, April 5. She was formerly Miss Susanna Allen, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Allen and was born at Lake Pleasant 84 years ago. Surviving is an adopted daughter, Viola, Mrs. Floyd Arenburg, with whom she resided since the death of her husband eight years ago; two grandchildren, Marguerite, Mrs. Earl Feener, Pinehurst and Lorraine, at home; and one great granddaughter, Virginia Feener. Also surviving are four brothers, Henry Allen, Falkland Ridge; Harvey Allen, Kentville; Isaac Allen, Upper Northfield; and Daniel Allen, Lake Pleasant. Two brothers, David and James of Springfield, and a sister, Mrs. Harry Whynot, died a number of years ago. Mrs. Whynot was a faithful member of the United Church and in her younger days was an active worker in the Women's Association. She was a kind neighbour, always willing to help anyone in need. She will be greatly missed by her relatives and friends. The funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at Epworth United Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. S.G. MacQueen.

    3. Charles Whynot 1940 Bridgewater Bulletin New Germany, October 14- The community was shocked on Friday night by news of the sudden death of Charles Whynot, a life-long resident. Mr. Whynot, although not in his usual good health during the preceeding week, had been about the house and had taken his evening meal on Friday with his wife. Rising from the table he expressed his intention of changing his clothing as he expected neighbours to call during the evening. On going into the bedroom he dropped backward across the bed where he was found a few minutes later by his daughter, Mrs. Floyd Arenburg, Dr. A.L. Cunningham, hastily summoned, found life extinct and attributed death to a heart attack. Mr. Whynot is survived by his wife, before marriage, Miss Susan Allen and by an adopted daughter, Viola, wife of Floyd Arenburg and three grandchildren, Murray, Marguerite, and Lorraine Arenburg, all of New Germany. He was the eldest son of the late Edmund and Sophia (Tipert) Whynot and was born at New Germany July 18, 1870. In this family of ten, are surviving brothers, Albert, George, and Gabriel of New Germany and Harry of Falkland Ridge; and five sisters, Cora, widow of William Seamone and Addie, widow of Sylvanus Seamone, both of Stanley Section; Lydia, wife of Daniel Allen, Springfield; Effie, wife of Timothy Morton, Watford; and Mary, wife of George Hirtle, Cookville. A sister, Ida, predeceased him. He was a faithful member of the Unied Church and had held the office of usher for many years and was a prominent member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge, members of which marched in a body from the church to the cemetery and conducted the funeral rites at the grave. The service at the house and United Church was conducted by the Rev. W.H. Palmer.

    3. Michael A. Notarangelo 1975 Bridgewater Bulletin Michael A. Notarangelo, 93, of 389 Main Street, Middleton, formerly of Falkland Ridge, died at Soldiers Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, June 17, 1975. Born in Mattinata, Italy, he was a son of the late Pedro and Mary Notarangelo. During his lifetime he was a road construction foreman and lumberman. He attended Saint Monica's Roman Catholic Church, Middleton. Surviving are five daughters, Mary (Mrs. Roy Slauenwhite), Brooklyn, Queens County; Mabel (Mrs. Hazen Rainforth), Windemere, Kings County; Miss Willa Notarangelo, Bridgetown; Eunice (Mrs. Harry Burgoyne), Middleton; Geraldine (Mrs. Gordon Medicraft), Middleton; one son, Lewis, Falkland Ridge; one brother, Joseph, Mattinia, Italy; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Nina McNayr. The body rested at the Warren T. roop Limited Funeral Home, Middleton. Funeral service was held from Saint Monica's Roman Catholic Church, Middleton, on Friday, June 20, 1975, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Father Saulnier officiating. Interment was in Falkland Ridge Cemetery.

    3. Emma Odessa Anderson 2007 Halifax Chronicle Herald Emma Odessa Anderson, 83, Clarence, passed away Monday, March 19, 2007, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Falkland Ridge, she was a daughter of the late James and Mary (Woodbury) Sproule. Emma was a master chef and worked with the Department of Corrections in Ontario for approximately 25 years before retiring to Nova Scotia. She enjoyed music, crocheting, and crossword puzzles. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her loving companion of 16 years, Vance Jackson, Clarence; daughters, Elizabeth Jervis, Toronto; Sue (Robert) Thompson, Toronto; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and long-time friend, Rose (Robert) Baltzer, North Williamston. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Anderson; sister, Willa; and brother, Frank. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 22, in Clarence United Baptist Church, Rev. George Mollins officiating, with cremation to follow. Interment will be held at a later date in Falkland Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Born September 29, 1916, in Leminster, Hants County, he was a son of the late Archibald and Hattie (Swinimer) Fiendle. Percy spent most of his life on the family property in Leminster, working in the woods and doing some farming. Percy enjoyed the outdoors and feeding animals on his property. Percy was a real people person, enjoying visiting with family and friends. Percy always took pride in his automobiles. He spent the last few years at Fairview Villa, where he was well cared for. He is survived by sister, Violet Trenholm, Windsor Elms; nieces, Mrs. Reney Winter, Calgary; Melva Jollymore, Halifax; nephew, Floyd Jollymore, New Ross; cousin and caregiver, Ron (Edith) Levy, Leminster. He was predeceased by sister, Tryphena Jollymore. Visitation will be 2-, 7-9 p.m. today in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home. Born in Liverpool, he was a son of the late John "Johnny" Earl and Gladys (Penney) Jollimore. Sydney lived most of his life in Toronto working for Canada Packers before starting his own roofing business.He moved back to Liverpool in 1982 where he worked as a general contractor. He was a member of the Mersey No. 38, Royal Canadian Legion, Liverpool, where he also tended bar. He especially enjoyed hockey and coaching the kids. He loved his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving companion, Andrea Thorbourne; daughter, Sheila (Dwight) Crouse of Charleston; his son, Buddy of Kings City; grandchildren, Hailey Langille, Branden Jollimore, and Bryden Crouse; his sister, Mary Anne of Liverpool; his brothers, Gary (Anna) of Liverpool; Terry (Janice) of Prince Rupert; Denny (Linda) of Liverpool. She was born August 8, 1928, in Dorchester, Massachusetts. At age 10 she suffered a tragic loss, the sudden death of her parents, Hebert McClare and Izetta (Zwicker) McClare and younger sister, Jean. She came to Brooklyn, Queens County, to live with and was adopted by her aunt and uncle, the late Reginald and Charlotte Dickie. Many happy summers were spent with McClare relatives in Hillsvale, Hants County. While still in her teens, she taught in a one-room school in Kempt, Queens County. Primarily a homemaker, she occasionally worked as a substitute teacher in the Chester Basin/Western Shore Schools and with Welcome Wagon in Halifax. She volunteered as a Cub leader in Chester Basin and as a literary tutor in the Halifax Library. After earning a certificate in adult education from Henson College she became a volunteer teacher of English to immigrants. Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Nelson; sons, Gerard (Tona Hennigar) and Michael (Elaine Keller); daughter, Charlotte (Stephen) Penney; grandchildren, Matthew and Daniel Penney; Claire and Fae Amiro; cousin, Ted Dickie. Her sister, Jean McClare; brother, Warren McClare and granddaughter, Jillian Penney, predeceased her. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 5, from 7-9 p.m. in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, Halifax. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, June 6, in St. Mary's Basilica, Father John Williams officiating. Born in Liverpool, she was a daughter of the late Bertram J. and Pearl M. (Dexter) MacNeil. Karen worked at Bowater Mersey Paper Company for 30 years in various positions, most notably secretary to the president. After leaving Bowater, she had various other employment opportunities before taking the "plunge" into, what would seem to be "her calling," a seniors' boarding home. She truly loved each and every person who made her home theirs. She so enjoyed providing a loving and caring home-like experience for each of her residents. In her spare time she loved tending to her beautiful gardens. She was a member of Arbutus Chapter No. 30, Order of the Eastern Star and was past member of the Queens County Garden Club. She is survived and sadly missed by her only daughter, Michele (Darrell) Richards; grandchildren, Jessica and Justin; her brothers, Bertram Jr. "Bert" of Thompson, Manitoba; William "Billy" (Anne) of Conquerall Mills; nieces, Erin, Amber, and Melanie; nephews, Tyler and Tyson. She was predeceased by her brother, David. Lawrence Melbourne Levy 2000 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Monday, July 17, 2000. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Lawrence Melbourne Levy, 85, Curry's Corner, Hants County, died peacefully Saturday, July 15, 2000, at home, surrounded by his family. Born May 15, 1915, in Sherwood, Lunenburg County, he was a son of the late James Edward and Ella Elizabeth (Armstrong) Levy. Lawrence was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He moved from Sherwood in 1935 to a small farm on Dill Road and later to Curry's Corner. He worked as a rural mail driver, then with the Department of Lands and Forests, delighting many audiences, especially school children, for many years with forest conservation films and movies. He was also active in the Government Employees Association. His part-time work with Lohnes Funeral Service during his retirement years is very much appreciated. Lawrence was a very involved member and deacon of the Windsor United Baptist Church and he was active in organizing summer services at the Sherwood Church. He was a former member of the Curry's Corner Fire Department. He was Past Noble Grand of Pesaquid Lodge 38, Past District Deputy Grand Master of District 8, Past Chief Patriarch and Past Distict Deputy Grand Patriarch of Belvedere Encampment 5, Past Grand Chaplain of Grand Lodge of the Atlantic Provinces, IOOF (1990-1991) and a member of the Leila Rebekah Lodge 59. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Stella May MacLean; a son, Charles and his wife Margaret, Three Mile Plains; a daughter, Helen, Curry's Corner; grandchildren, Sharon and husband David Watson; Alan and wife Heather, Alex; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Jenna, Christopher, and Rhiannon. He was predeceased by brothers, Dr. George, Henry, Judge Clifford, Herman, and Dr. Judson. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today, July 17, in Lohnes-Beazley Funeral Home, Windsor. Passed peacefully in Kingston General Hospital on Friday, November 23, 2007, from pancreatic cancer at the age of 73. Beloved husband of Lila, he is survived by her and his four children, Maureen Wellman and husband Donald, Carolyn Roach and husband Edward, Eric, and Bill Jr.; his siblings, Gordon and wife Geraldine, Kingston, Ontario; John "Jack" and wife Alicia, Bridgewater; Glenwood and wife Elizabeth, Bridgewater; Eugene, Caledonia; and Dorothy Ann and husband, Rev. David Lutes, Truro. He was the eldest son of the late Donald Penney and Esther (Minard) of Caledonia and was also predeceased by his younger brother, "Bobby," husband of Dianne. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Matthew and Adam Roach, Crystal Wellman, Kieran and Camille Penney, and several nieces and nephews. Bill was a retired Senior Vice-president of the Bank of Nova Scotia and had worked in Caledonia, Kentville, Sydney Mines, Liverpool, Amherst, and across Canada. After his retirement, he lived in Melrose and Kingston. He was an avid golfer and hunter. His ashes will be interred in Nova Scotia at a later date. Born in Liverpool, he was a son of the late William and Edith (Orme) Baker Sr. William was a foreman for the former New System Laundry for many years before moving on to the parts department at Cole Ford Sales in Sandy Cove where he retired in 2004. He was an avid softball player in his younger years and a fan of the Boston Red Sox, Boston Bruins, and New England Patriots. He is survived by his wife, Sheila (Jollimore); his daughter, Crystal (Calvin) Brannen of White Point; his granddaughter, Erin Spinney of Saskatoon and his sister, Marjorie "Marnie" (Allen) Hatt of Liverpool. He was predeceased by his infant sister, Sherry; his sisters, Donna MacNutt and Janice Rafuse; his half-sister, Rita Hunt and his brother, John "Jackie." Born on January 10, 1923, in Chegoggin, she was a daughter of the late Clement and Evelyn Doane. Norma was a member of Zion United Baptist Church. She was a homemaker all her life. She is survived by husband, Archibald; daughters, Mary (David) Crouse, Front Centre; Jean Hackama, Edmonton; Linda Amero, Halifax; Sarah (Gary) Whynacht, Lunenburg; Susan (David) Hirtle, Bush Island; son, Peter Amero, Vancouver; brother, William (Jean) Goobie, Hmailton; half-brother, Robert Lohnes, Bridgewater; half-sister, Diane Bennett, Dartmouth; sister-in-law, Erna Goobie, First South; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by infant daughter, Florence; brother, Gordon Goobie; grandson, John. No visitation by family request. Funeral service 1:30 p.m. Saturday in R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville, Rev. James Haughn officiating. Burial in Peaceful Hill Cemetery, West Dublin. Family flowers only. Born in South Side, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Gertrude (Nickerson) Penney. She is survived by brother, Milton (Margaret), Lower Clark's Harbour; sister, Arlene Atwood, South Side. She was predeceased by her first husband, Marshall Ross; second husband, James Nickerson; brother, Freeman; sisters, Juanita and Gladys. Visitation was held Saturday in H. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Barrington. Funeral 2 p.m. today in Stoney Island United Baptist Church, Rev. Robie Atkinson officiating. Burial will be in Atlantic Cemetery, Stoney Island. Dawn Marie Vasquez 2007 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Saturday December 1, 2007. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Dawn Marie Vasquez, 31, Windsor, Ontario, formerly of Chelsea, passed away suddenly on November 26, 2007. Born in Bridgewater, Dawn was the daughter of Richard and Sheila (Slauenwhite) Henley, Chelsea. She graduated from Parkview Education Centre, Bridgewater in 1994. She attended Acadia University, Wolfville where she graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree and ontinued her education at the University of Windsor, receiving her Bachelor of Social Work degree. Dawn was a social worker with the Windsor Essex Children's Aid Society for three years and a former employee of both the Hiatus House for abused women, as well as the Salvation Army. Dawn is survived by her husband, Jose; daughter, Mila Grace; son Mateo Joaquin; Devin Bellefleur and Cheyenne Shepley ,all of Windsor; brother, Dwayne (Maria Hushovd), Toronto; maternal grandmother, Mary (Heim) Slauenwhite and paternal grandmother, Mildred (Wessell) Henley, Chelsea. She was dear daughter-in-law of Rafael and Ana Vasquez, Windsor; and sister-in-law to Manuel (Jenny Veliz) and James Vasquez. She was predeceased by maternal grandfather, Bernard Slauenwhite and paternal grandfather, Borden Henley (Chelsea). Visitation will be held Sunday from 7-9 p.m. with prayers being offered at 8 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater, Msgr. William Wamboldt officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Chelsea. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made out to Mila and Mateo Vasquez, to be held in trust.
