OBIT # 5057 - EASTERN CHRONICLE - 22 AUGUST 1935 WILLIAM J.MACLEOD-There passed away at White Hill on July 18th, one of its most prominent citizens in the person of WILLIAM MACLEOD at the age of 58 years, after an illness of three months which he bore without a murmur or complaint. The late Mr. MacLeod was twice married. His first wife was MARGARET MacCAFFRAY of Marshdale who died in 1921. In 1927 he married Mrs. ANNIE MacENERY who also predeceased him. Two sons,JOHN JAMES, and HERMAN, also a daughter, CATHERINE ELOISE predeceased him some years ago. He is survived by one son WILLIAM GLOVER of White Hill, and one sister Mrs. ROBERT BOUCHER,of Oakland,California. The funeral service was held from the First Presbyterian Church, Hopewell, conducted by the Rev.A.O.Roscamp. Interment at Marshdale cemetery.

He was a graduate of the College of Cape Breton, majoring in computer science. Surviving, besides his parents, are a sister, Judy (Mrs. Edson CULLEN), Bible Hill; a niece. Fred T.M. Naas 1977 Fred T.M. Naas, 74, passed away on Friday, October 14, at home. Born at Lunenburg, he was the son of the late Harry and Emma (Demone) Naas. He was a retired employee of Lunenburg Foundry and Engineering Limited. He is survived by his wife, the former Hazel Knickle; a son, Raymond, Lunenburg; two daughters, Kay (Mrs. Hillis Shaw), Coldbrook; Mrs. Ann Montgomery, Dartmouth; a brother, George; a sister, Mrs. Gladys Wiswell, both of Lunenburg; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Jennie Nevens.
Mrs. Olive Nowe 1974 The death of Mrs. Olive (Howard) Nowe occurred Friday, July 19th., at F.M. Hospital. She was born at Lunenburg, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Usiel Crouse. She is survived by her husband, Howard; and two sons, Ralph, Trenton, Ontario; Walter, Lunenburg; and four grandsons; one sister, Muriel (Mrs. Francis Young), Lunenburg; and three brothers, Walter and Allan, Lunenburg and Harris, Ipswich Mass. Funeral service was conducted Sunday, July 21st., from Central United Church with Rev. David MacNaughton officiating. Interment took place in Hillcrest Cemetery.
William Harry Beeswanger 1938 Bridgewater Bulletin New Germany, July 18- The entire community as well as friends throughout the province, were deeply shocked when they learned on Friday, July 15, of the death of William Harry Beeswanger, which occurred under such tragic circumstances in an automobile accident which also claimed the life of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Lemage Ramey. Born 73 years ago in Sheet Harbour, the late Mr. Beeswanger came to Springfield about forty years ago and was Superintendent of the Davison Lumber Company until that firm went out of business. Thirteen years ago he and Mrs. Beeswanger moved to New Germany where he was manager of the Hollingsworth and Whitney Farm. THe deceased was a man of sterling character, genial disposition, and had a host of friends throughout the province as well as in the New England states who are deeply grieved at his untimely passing. He will be greatly missed from this village, where he had a smile and jolly word for everyone. In religion the late Mr. Beeswanger was a former Presbyterian, later of the United Church of Canada and was a regular attendant at services and was also a staunch supporter of the Anglican Church of which his wife is a member. He is survived by his widow, formerly Melinda Ramey Oickle; one step-daughter, Flossie (Mrs. Alvin Lowe), in Idaho; three step-sons, Ettiney at Long Island, New York; Guy and Otis of New Germany; one sister, Mrs. Bezanson at Sheet Harbour; and also a number of nieces and nephews there. The funeral services which were held on Sunday afternoon, July 17 were attended by a throng of sorrowing friends and was the largest funeral ever held here. Services were held in the Anglican Church, conducted by the rector, Rev. C. Veinot. Rev. T.G. Ott, of Chester, a personal friend of the deceased, delivered the sermon. Interment was made in the Anglican Cemetery .The pallbearers were Messrs. F.C. DeLong, H.B. Verge, T.D. Burns, Daniel Parnell, Wynn Crouse, and Randall Mosher. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the sorrowing widow and family who have met wwith their deep loss. A profusion of beautiful flowers testified to the esteem in which the late Mr. Beeswanger was held.

He was a veteran of the First World War and a member of Torbay Branch No. 157 Royal Canadian Legion. Surviving are his wife, the former Mabel Marion Kaiser; five sons, Frank, Truro; Raymond; Ottawa; Wilfred, Country Harbour; Harvey and Purvis, both of Goldboro; three daughters, Mildred (Mrs. Fred McQuillan), Ottawa; Juanita (Mrs. Robert Shaw), and Marion (Mrs. John MacLellan), both of Goldboro; three sisters, Gertrude (Mrs. John O'Donnell), Eva (Mrs. Thomas O'Donnell) and Margaret (Mrs. John Small), all of Glace Bay; two brothers, Enos, Glace Bay; Reuben, Toronto; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two daughters, Alice and Mildred, a son Wilfred, two brothers Robert and Lloyd. The body is at Goldboro Baptist Church, where funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m., Rev. J. Tonks officiating. Burial will be in Bayview cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel; six sisters, Ina, Montreal; Mabel (Mrs. John Walker), Truro; Olive (Mrs. Russell Christianson) and Irene (Mrs. Neil MacDonald), Halifax; Alberta (Mrs. Kenneth Smith), Aspen; Doris (Mrs. Charles Hudson), Goldboro; five brothers, Morton, Liverpool; Harold and Lester, Halifax; Robert, Sussex; Edwin, Goldenville; several nieces and nephews.
Alvin Gates 1937 Bridgewater Bulletin The death of Alvin Gates, an aged resident of Stanburn, occurred at his home there on Saturday, August 11, following an illness of nine months. He was 76 years old and was born at Cross Roads, Rose Bay, the son of John and Isabelle (Cooke) Gates. His wife, who before marriage was Miss Melissa (Lessie) Varner, predeceased him fifteen months ago. He is survived by his only son, Sumner; two grand-children, Harold and Minnie; also one half brother, Will Gates, Farmington, Maine; and half sisters, Mrs. Minnie Chase, Saugus, Maine; Mrs. Bertha Nostrum, Midddleton, Mass.; and Mrs. Rose Kidger, Lynn, Mass. The funeral services held on Tuesday were conducted by Rev. T.G. Ott, rector of St. John's Anglican Church and were largely attended. Relatives and friends from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Snow, Halifax; Lester Varner, Dorchester, Mass.; Misses Lucy and Helen Varner, Lewiston, Maine; Mrs. Lena Converse, Mrs. H. Lego, Miss Dorothy Lego, Worcester, Mass. The floral offerings were beautiful, testifying to the esteem in which the deceased was held by a large circle of friends who extend their sympathy to the bereaved family.

The body is at Kennedy Memorial Residence, where funeral service will be held Monday at 3.30 p.m., Rev. Dana Lamb officiating. Interment will be in Robie Street Cemetery.
Mrs. George Cole 1931 Bridgewater Bulletin Agnes Johnston, beloved wife of George Cole, died at Simpson's Corner, March 15th., 1931, at the age of 57 years, after a short illness. She was a native of Edinburgh, Scotland, and came to this country about 45 years ago, and has made many friends in the community in which she lived. She was highly esteemed by all who knew her, always having a smile for everyone. In religion she was a member of the United Church and her pastor, Rev. C. McRae, preached a very impressive sermon. She leaves to mourn their loss, a husband and two daughters, Mrs. Walter Hubley, of this place, and Mrs. James Hubley, of Farmington; also one brother, Alexander Johnston of Allston, Mass., who with his son, attended the funeral; also a host of friends.

She was predeceased by a half sister, Hazel (Sinnis) Sample and a half brother, James W. Sinnis. The remains will rest at the R. H. Mrs. Charles Haughn 1952 Bridgewater Bulletin Mrs. Charles Haughn passed away at her home on Prince Street on Friday morning, March 28th., at the age of eighty-two. She was the former Arabella Clara Himmelman, daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth Spindler Himmelman. Her husband, Charles, predeceased her several years ago. She is survived by one son, Simon and by two grandchildren, Louis and Frances. The funeral service was conducted at Sweeny's Fuenral Home at 4 p.m. Sunday by Dr. C.H. Whitteker. Interment was in Brookside Cemetery.
Joseph Feindel 1922 Bridgewater Bulletin The community of New Germany was very deeply shocked to hear of the sudden death of Joseph Feindel on September 11, at Bridgewater. Mr. Feindel was held highly in esteem by all those who knew him. He was manager of the New Germany Pulp Mill for eighteen years, during which time his dealings with mankind were upright and honest. During the last eleven years he was living at the home of Allison Snyder, Bridgewater. Mr. Feindel was 77 years of age and leaves to mourn his loss, two sisters, Mrs. Elias Varner and Mrs. Elkanah Lohnes, now at New Germany; also four brothers, William and Obediah at New Germany; Albert at Dayspring; and Hezekiah in the United States. The funeral service took place at the home of Mr. Snyder on Tuesday afternoon, September 12th., at 2 o'clock. Interment was made at St. John's Cemetery, New Germany, the Rev. W.M. Knickle officiating.

Born at Chester, he was a son of the late William and Lila (Barkhouse) Nauss. Surviving are his wife, the former Ella Mae Rafuse; four daughters, Helen (Mrs. Austin Morash), Ruth (Mrs. Walter Zinck), Edna (Mrs. Willard Morash), all of Chester; Dora ( Mrs, Edward Lenaghan), of Halifax; two sons, Albert and Murray, both at home; also 10 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a sister, Vera Conrad, Chester. He was predeceased by five sisters, two brothers, a son, and a daughter. The body rested at Davis Funeral Home, Chester. Burial was in St. Stephen's Anglican Church Cemetery. Rev. Mrs. Josiah Lohnes 1941 The death occurred at the D.M. Hospital on Wednesday, July 6th., of Mrs. Josiah Lohnes, of Pleasantville, after an illness of six weeks. Mrs. Lohnes was the former Lillian Mae Corkum, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Amiel Corkum, of Middle LaHave, and was in her 69th. year. In her immediate family, she is survived by her husband and eight children: Elmore, Mrs. Charles Fralic; Firmin, Willis, Everett, and Llewellyn of Pleasantville; Iona, Mrs. Wilson Fraser of Dayspring; Devilla, Mrs. Wilson Robar; and Miss Flora Lohnes of Medford, Mass. One son, Alton, predeceased his mother. Sixteen grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive. Mrs. Lohnes was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church, Conquerall Bank. Funeral services were held at the residence in Pleasantville at 2:30 on Saturday.

Henry Publicover 1931 Bridgewater Bulletin Published: February 3, 1931. The death of Henry Publicover occurred on Thursday at the age of 79 years. The deceased was born at West LaHave, but had resided at Bridgewater for many years, and was a son of the late Solomon and Sarah Publicover. His wife, Rosanna, predeceased him some six years ago. He is survived by one daughter, Laura, Mrs. J.S. Allen; four sons, Howard and Guy of East Boston and Edward and Seaforth of Bridgewater. THe funeral took place on Saturday, the services being conducted by the Rev. G.P. Endy.
