UNKNOWN PAPER - 27 JULY 1984 J. CARL MACLEOD, 68, dies in drowning accident. River John, Pictou County - J. Carl MacLEOD, 68, of River John, died Wednesday in Newfoundland as a result of a drowning accident. Born in Denmark, N.S., he was the son of the late R. Edgar and Daisy (SWAN) MacLEOD. Before retirement, he and his son owned a hardware and building supply business in River John. He was a licensed embalmer and funeral director, and a partner in MacLeod's Funeral Home. Active in church and community affairs, he was a member, elder and clerk of session of Salem United Church. He was also a member of the choir for more than 40 years. He was a member of Pictou Presbytery. He was a member of the Oddfellows Lodge and this year, received his 40-year jewel. He was a former member of the Pictou County Municipal Council; a member of the River John Fire Department; and a charter member of Brule Shore Golf Course. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was survived by his wife, the former Irene GILES; two daughters, Diane (Mrs. Robert SHINK), of Montreal West, Joan (Mrs. Peter SMALL) of London, England; a son, Ned of River John; a sister, Thelma (Mrs. Aurel BLANCHARD), of Saint John, N.B.; a half-brother, Robert of Earltown; five grandchildren; two nephews and a neice. The body will be at MacLeod's Funeral Home in River John after 7 p.m. today. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Salem United Church with Rev. Jeanne STRIGHT officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Denmark. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mitchell and Methodist Pioneer Cemetery or the Salem United Church memorial fund.

Born at Union Square, she waas the former Lois Silver, daughter of the late William and Louise (Fancy) Silver. Surviving are a daughter, Olive (Mrs. Max Haughan), Conquerall Bank; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Olivia (Mrs. Angus MacKay), Union Square; and two brothers, Locke and Clarence, both of Union Square. She was predeceased by her husband, seven sisters, and one brother. Fuenral service was held Monday at 2:30 p.m. from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Bridgewater, Rev. W. Gustafson officiating. Burial at Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater.

The funeral of the late Obediah Conrad who was drowned on the fishing grounds and whose body was recovered and forwarded to Lunenburg for burial, was held this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Rev. W.E. Ryder, rector of St. John's Anglican Church, officiated. The deceased is survived by a wife and four children. Interment was in Lunenburg Cemetery.
Anthony James Langille 2006 Halifax Chronicle Herald Anthony James Langille, 86, formerly of Blockhouse, passed away November 11, 2006, in Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay. Born at Newburne, he was a son of the late Winnifred Langille. He was raised by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Langille, Fauxburg. He was retired from National Sea Products, Lunenburg, where he had worked on the scallop processing line. He enjoyed working in his garden and sport fishing. He is survived by sister, Winnie (Armond) Faulkenham, Northwest; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, LaVerna Marguerite (Crossland); brothers, St.Clair Veinotte and Cecil Veinotte. Visiting will be 1-2 p.m. Wednesday in Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay, followed by a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. in Garden of Rest Cemetery, Blockhouse, Rev. Stephen Kristenson officiating. His wife, the former Ellen Nass, also a daughter, Nora, predeceased him some years ago. The funeral service was held in the Anglican Church on Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Mr. Martell. She was a fine type of woman with splendid characteristics devoted to her church, her family and her friends. She will be much missed in those circles in which she was a beloved member. Abel Jodrey 1939 Bridgewater Bulletin The death of Abel Jodrey which took place at his home in New Germany, on Monday, January 16th., after a short illness, at the age of eighty-five years, removes one of the oldest citizens of the community. He was the son of the late Nicholas and Sophia Jodrey, Maitland. He is survived by one brother, Cornelius Jodrey, Blue Mountain, Kings County; a son, Theophilus, who resides at home; a daughter, Lida (Mrs. Leigh Veinotte), New Germnay; also seven grand-children. After a short service at the home on Wednesday afternoon, the cortege proceeded to St. John's-in-the-Wilderness Anglican Church, of which the deceased was a faithful member. Rev. C. She had been an invalid for several years, but was always bright and interested in the affairs of the community. She was a Presbyterian all her life, being a faithful and devoted member of St.Andrew's church. She endowed a room in Sutherland Memorial Hospital and was interested in all schemes for the betterment of community life. Her family was one of the oldest in Pictou County, her mother being one of five sisters, four of whom married and lived in Pictou , and of these families Miss Gordon was the last direct descendant living in Pictou town. Mrs. J. WILLIAM GORDON, Bermuda, is a sister-in-law, and she and her daughter, Mrs. JOHN HARVEY are in Pictou at present. Rev. ALEXANDER M.GORDON, of Quebec and Mr.HUNTLEY GORDON, of Hamilton, Ont.are nephews. The funeral was held on Thursday afternoon at her home "Kildonan", Denoon Street, and was largely attended.

She was the daughter of the late George and Catharine MARSHALL. She is survived by her husband, Leonard SWAN, four sons: Warren, of Point Tupper, N.S.; Earl, London, Ont.; Arnold, Portage La Prairie, Manitoba; and George, Sydney Mines, Cape Breton; four sisters: Mrs. Muriel LORD, Saybrook, Conn.; Olive (Mrs. Russell MINGO), The Falls; Minnie (Mrs. Sherman TUTTLE), Wentworth; and Mrs. Marguerite MacINTOSH, Truro; and one brother Ernest MARSHALL, Mansfield, Mass., 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The funeral service was held from West New Annan United Church on September 10 conducted by Rev. A.G. KELLOWAY and a former pastor, Rev. Gordon DECKER, of Nappan. Pallbearers were John MacKAY, John JOHNSON, Elmon BELL, Laurie SWAN, Frank MacDONALD and Delbert VINCENT. The service at the graveside was conducted by Rev. Mr. BUTT of United Church, Port Hawkesbury.
Murray LeRoy Nauss The community of Chester and surrounding area was shocked to hear of the sudden passing of Murray LeRoy Nauss, of kind and lovable disposition. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The son of Ella M. and the late A. Gordon Nauss, he was 37 years old. During his early years he attended Chester Elementary and High School He was self-employed. He is survived by his mother; brother Albert; four sisters, Helen (Mrs. Austin Morash), Ruth (Mrs. Walter Zinck); Edna (Mrs. Willard Morash); and Dora (Mrs. Ed Lenahan. He was predeceased by his father, a brother, and a sister. Funeral service was held in St. Stephen's Anglican Church and the service was conducted by Rev. E. Tuck, assisted by Dr. M.A. Gibson. Burial was in St. Stephen's Cemetery.

Robert Joudrey 1933 Bridgewater Bulletin Published: July 4, 1933. On Friday, June 23, Robert Joudrey, youngest of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Joudrey, of Bridgewater, passed pecefully away at the Dawson Memorial Hospital, at the early age of 8 years and 9 months. The deceased had been in failing health but a short time. His death was a great shock to his relatives and friends and he will be missed by his playmates.Besides a sorrowing father and mother, he leaves to mourn their loss, two sisters and four brothers: Nellie, Phyllis, Cecil, Douglas, Frank, and Charles. The funeral was conducted on June 26th. from his home on King Street. The service was conducted by Rev. G.W. Bullock, pastor of the Anglican Church. The remains were laid to rest in Brookside Cemetery.

His wife, the former Miss Agnes Clem, Aylesford Mountain, died in 1922. William E. Durland 1955 Bridgewater Bulletin The death of William Enock Durland, one of the most esteemed residents in the community, occurred at his home in Colpton, December 7th., after a lengthy illness, which he bore very patiently. He was the son of the late Enock and Lucy Cole Durland, born at Simpson's Corner 65 years ago. Mr. Durland was a devoted member of the United Church of Canada and served as elder for a number of years. He leaves to mourn their loss, a sorrowing wife, the former Mrs. Nina Wayne; also two sisters, Flora (Mrs. George Fancy), Colpton; Hilda (Mrs. Wallace Wagner), Simpson's Corner; one brother, Havelock, Torbrook; another sister, Hazel, predeceased him several years ago. Surviving are his wife, the former Carolyn Beth Robar; two daughters, Cathy and Beth; a son, Garth, all at home; four sisters, Essie (Mrs. Alden Brannern), Wood's Harbour; Mrs. Lillian Adams, Jordan Falls; Violet (Mrs. Lawrence Nickerson), Stoughton, Mass.; Mrs. Vera Chetwynd, Yarmouth; two brothers, Clifford, Bridgewater; and Jerry, Shag Harbour. He was predeceased by seven brothers and two sisters.
