OBIT # 5090 - EASTERN CHRONICLE - 6 DECEMBER 1910 On Saturday morning last the body of Mr. GEORGE ROSS, one of the most respected farmers and citizens of the Middle River, was borne to his last resting place. The deceased gentleman was in 99th year and he passed away without pain, just faded in the air and yellow leaf full of honor. He was born in Scotland and was grown to manhood before he came to this country. Those who knew him describe him as an industrious and honest man, a member of the Presbyterian Church and an ardent and consiment Liberal.

He is survived by two sons, Raymond, Moncton; Curtis, Burlington, Ont.; three daughters, Jean (Mrs. Leo MOSHER) and Maxine (Mrs. Walter HARASYMCHUK), both of Halifax; Lois (Mrs. Gordon SLAUNWHITE), Pleasant Point; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mable HIGGINS; a daughter, Meta MARTELL; a brother Manford; a sister Lizzie. The body is in Coulter's Funeral Home, Tatamagouche, where the funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Rev. Paul PUTNAM officiating, with burial in Lockerby Cemetery. Jacob Meisner 1912 Progress Enterprise Published: November 13, 1912. The death occurred at an early hour on Thursday morning last, of Jacob Meinser. He was in his usual health up to the time of retiring on Wednesday evening, so that his death was wholly unexpected. He was 79 years of age and was a native of Blandford where he was married fifty-three years ago to Lucy A. Publicover, who survives him. The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon; service being conducted by Rev. E.A. Harris.

Lillian Lavine Brady 1999 Halifax Chronicle Herald Lillian Lavine Brady died peacefully April 21, 1999, in the South Shore Regional Hopsital, Bridgewater. Born at Baker Settlement, she was a daughter of the late Florence (Fancy) Woodworth and Charles Woodworth. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Harry. she is survived by, much loved and missed by son, John; daughter, Mary Ann and husband Mike Gibbons, London, Ontario; adored by her grandchildren, Andy (Lori), London; Casey, Toronto; Jennifer, Jillian, and Matthew, Bridgewater. Sadly missed by only sister, Edith (Mrs. Harry Pernette); nephew, Robert (Shirley) Pernette; niece,Sheila (Reg) Goldsmith; uncles, Dana Fancy (Beatrice), Auburndale; Russell Fancy, Worcester, Mass.; and aunt, Margaret Lucas, Calgary; along with many dear friends. She will be remembered for her lifelong contributions to St. Paul's Lutheran Church on the altar guild, as a Sunday School teacher, longtime choir member, past president and active member of the East Side Ladies Aid. In addition, she held a lifetime interest in the Bridgewater Curling Club as both a curler and social convener. Lillian spent many years as organizer of the hospital gift shop volunteers. She was a vice-president of H.W. Brady Limited and a former ballroom dancing teacher and a Brownie leader. Visitation will be at Sweeny's Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater, on Friday,April 23, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Service will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 24, in st. Paul's Lutheran Church. Ralph E. Montgomery 1999 Halifax Chronicle Herald Ralph E. (Honey) Montgomery, 87, Bridgewater, died April 3, 1999, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born at Yarmouth, he was a son of the late John E. "Ned" and Mary (Muise) Montgomery. He served in the Royal Canadian Regiment prior to the Second World War. He was employed with CN Rail for 35 years. He was an adherent of Bridgewater United Baptist Church; a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24, Bridgewater and a member of Acadia Lodge, Bridgewater. In his youth he was active in baseball and hockey. Upon retirement, he turned his sporting interest to golfing and curling. Surviving are his wife, the former Violet Foley; daughter, Heather Montgomery, Bridgewater; son, Robert, Bridgewater; brother, J.F. "Ted", Halifax; a step-grandson. He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret DRUMMOND; a daughter, Cynthia and a son CRAIG, both at home; a brother, James, Winnipeg; two sisters, Eileen (Mrs. Gilbert LANGILLE), Halifax and Viola (Mrs. Alfred MacCARTHY), Sheet Harbour and several nieces and nephews. OBIT # 5079 - EASTERN CHRONICLE - 29 NOVEMBER 1910 On Saturday morning the body of RANALD McPHERSON, an aged man of probably sixty years, was found floating in the river just below the tram bridge. Coroner Kennedy summoned a jury, which met at Ross's undertaking rooms and reached a verdict that it was a case of suicide, the deceased man's mind being temporarily deranged while under the influence of liquor. He had been a resident of the town for a number of years and was well known, having always worked at the Steel Works. As a distinction from others of the same name he was known as "blind" RANALD. He had recent family difficulties.
UNKNOWN PAPER - 31 JULY 1976 MRS. THOMAS R. JOHNSON, 86, of Great Village, died Saturday at home. Born in Tatamagouche Mountain, she was the former Janet R. DRYSDALE, daughter of the late Albert and Mary (MacKAY) DRYSDALE. She was an active member of the Women's Institute, a member of the Presbyterian Church and attended Dalhousie University in her younger years. She was a former school teacher. Surviving are three sons, Dr. Arthur, Castlegar, B.C.; Thomas and Dr. Aubrey E., both of Great Village; a daughter, Dorothy (Mrs. Alfred LINKLETTER), Point Claire, Que,; a sister, Carrie (Mrs. M.L. URQUHART), Truro; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Thomas R., and two daughters. The body is at the family residence, Great Village. Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2:30 in St. James United Church, Great Village, Rev. R.B. MacCAULL officiating. Interment will be in Great Village cemetery.
Harry A.F. Pernette 1998 Halifax Chronicle Herald Harry A.F. Pernette, 83, West LaHave, died December 8, 1998, at home. Born at West LaHave, he was a son of the late Josiah and Winnie (Richard) Pernette. He worked at Boehner Woodworkers Limted from 1930-1978. He was well known in Lunenburg County for his Jersey cows and his association with the South Shore Exhibition for the past 46 years, 25 of which he was president. He was twice past president of the Federation of Agriculture and 25 years as chairman of the Livestock Sales in Bridgewater. He was also past secretary of Lunenburg County Milk and Cream Producers Association. He, with his son Robert, owned and operated LaHave River Jersey Farm and this year was awarded the Dairy Award of Excellence. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Edith (Woodworth); son, Robert(Shirley), West LaHave; daughter, Sheila (Reg) Goldsmith, Round Hill, Annapolis County; grandchildren, Richard, Randall, Rosalind, and Roderick Pernette, Susan and Janis Goldsmith, Karen Olsen; great-grandsons, Benjamin and Quintin; brothers, Percy, Donald; sisters, Avernia Bushen, Helen Routledge, and Yvonne Haughan, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, John and sister, Katherine Haughn. No visitation by request. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Friday in Fort Point Cemetery, LaHave, REv. Daisy Kells 1998 Halifax Chronicle Herald Daisy Kells, 96, died December 29, 1998, in hospital, Westboro, Mass. She was a daughter of the late Thomas and Amy (Veinot) Norwood, Baker settlement. She moved to the United States when she was in her 20's. She kept close ties to Nova Scotia and was an avid outdoorsperson who enjoyed fishing and all the animals and birds that nature provides. She also enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, playing cards, and baseball games. She was a faithful member of the United Church of Christ, Webster, Mass. Surviving are brother, Clement, Dartmouth; sister, Marian Veno, Moncton, formerly of Halifax; 13 nieces and eight nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Harry; sisters, Flo, Sadie, Cora, in infancy; brothers, Warren, Robert, Donald, Guy. She maintained her own home in Webster until a year ago when, due to failing health, she moved to Westboro, and was cared for by friends, Joyce and Lawrence Zwicker. Graveside service was held January 2. Arrangements were entrusted to Robert Miller's Funeral Home, Webster.

Rev. Gordon Lindsay Gower 1998 Halifax Chronicle Herald Rev. Gordon Lindsay Gower, 86, Windsor Elms, died August 18, 1998, in the home. Born October 28, 1911, he was a son of Charles and Edna (Bailey) Gower. He was a graduate of the Provincial Normal College. He taught school for six years, then attended Acadia Divinity College. After graduating, he ministered in various Baptist churches throughout Nova Scotia and Newfoundland for over forty years. His last years of ministry were in Hantsport and Mount Denson Baptist churches. Rev. Gower had been chairman of the Convention Christian Education and Overseas Missions boards. He served as modertor of several Baptist associations and president of several ministerial institutes. He served both the Masonic and Oddfellows Lodges as grand chaplain for a number of years. Surviving are his chosen daughter, Janet (Mrs. Glen Atwood), Yarmouth; grandchildren, Phillip, Peter, Mark, and Karen; great-grandchildren, Kayla ,Kacey; sisters, Nina Blanche Gower and Lois May Gower, both of Windsor Elms. Christian Zinck 1947 Bridgewater Bulletin Published: September 10, 1947. There passed away at his home in Hebb's Cross, August 8, Christian Zinck, at the age of 67. He was the only son of the late James Zinck and Arabella (Joudrey) Zinck and a lifelong resident of Hebb's Cross. He had been in failing health for the past eight months but his death came unexpectedly. An only sister passed away a number of years ago. He is survived by three nephews and one niece, Patience (Mrs. J.H. McGuire), of Port Mouton; James Ward of Hebb's Cross, with whom he resided; Frank Ward, Annapolis Valley; and Miles Ward, Italy Cross. Interment took place at Conquerall Mills on Monday, August 11, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. E. Lukins officiating.
R. Ray Wentzell 1927 Bridgewater Bulletin The little village of Upper Northfield was greatly shocked and saddened on May 16th., when word was received by telegram that Ray, only son of Mr. and Mrs. William O. Wentzell was drowned while stream-driving for Brown and Company, Berlin, New Hampshire. Ray was only 20 years and 10 months of age. He was a bright active young man and was liked by all who knew him. The body arrived home on Wednesday night, accompanied by Mr. Sidney Carver who was employed by the same company when the sad event took place. The funeral was held on Thursday and was very largely attended. Services were conducted by Rev. Grant, assisted by Rev. Beck of the United Church of Canada. Mr. Grant spoke in words of comfort from St. John, chapter 11, verses 25-26. The sympathy of the whole commuity is extended to the sorrowing mother, father, and only sister, Ruth.

He was a truck driver for many years until retirement, then recently, Douglas sold fresh produce in the village of New Germany. He was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Upper Northfield and past member of the New Germany and Area Lions Club and Royal Canadian Legion,Branch 102, New Germany. Surviving are his wife, the former Betty Robar; daughter, Bonnie (Earl) Meisner, Bridgewater; sons, Jerry, Watford; Kevin, Bridgewater; sister, Marlene (Arnold Jr.) Demone, New Germany; brother, Allister (Frances), Silver, Scarsdale; grandchildren, Michael, Dylan, Brandon, Brett, Shelby; several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Sweeny's Funeral Home, New Germany, where memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Rev. Jim Slack officiating. Burial will be at a later date. I think this should be Mr. Fred Oxner. He was John Frederick Oxner born 1 June 1846 and died 15 Dec. 1921. He was s/o John M. Oxner and and Margaret A. Smith. Fred's wife was Sarah Harriett Corkum born 27 Dec. 1851 (1901 Census) and died 30 July 1931. Here is Sarah Corkum Oxner's obit... She was a person of keen intellect and took a great interest in social and religious matters. Deceased was a good mother and kind and affectionate wife and friend. She will be sadly missed in her church and family circle and by her many friends. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Freeman Wentzel of Riverport, Mrs. A. C. Zinck of Rose Bay, Mrs. Esther Westhaver of Martin's Brook and Mrs. Gordon Walfield of LaHave Islands; four sons, Charles Sr., William, Wallace and Capt. Norman, also 25 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. The late Mrs. James Barnes of Boston (Annie) was also a daughter of deceased. The funeral services were held on Friday and were conducted by Rev. Gravenor of the Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg. Interment was made in the Lower LaHave Cemetery.
