    3. OBIT # 5163 - EASTERN CHRONICLE, NEW GLASGOW,NS-THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 1948:: GOSHEN- ALLAN F. MacNAUGHTON, widely known buisness man and senior member of the firm MacNaughton and Sinclair, died at his home in Goshen on Tuesday, following a two week illness from a paralytic shock. Born at Loch Katrine in 1865, deceased was the son of the late ALLAN (ROB) MacNAUGHTON and ELIZABETH HENDERSON MacNAUGHTON. Early in life he was apprenticed as a black smith to his older brother with whom he worked at Goshen and later for several years in California where, as a side line he and his brother experimented in the grape growing buisness. While in that state he suffered a severe illness that resulted in a physical handicap that would have discouraged most people, but being of the stuff that marks the Scots of these rugged eastern counties, and unwilling to admit defeat he returned to his native Nova Scotia and set up his own blacksmith buisness in Goshen. Over a long period of years when automobiles were either unknown or rare and such modern farming devices as tractors and motor trucks were unheard of, his village forge was a centre of activity patronized by people from far and near. In 1929 Mr.MacNaughton and his brother-in-law, the late ERNEST R. SINCLAIR, established the firm MacNAUGHTON and SINCLAIR, and conducted a successful general buisness which he continued to manage until two years ago when ill health forced him to retire from active life. He continued however, to maintain his keen interest in events of the day and in his church at Loch Katrine of which he was a devoted member since his early youth. Messages, gifts and visits from a multitude of friends and former buisness associates brought him much pleasure and happiness at the close of a long and useful life. Closely identified with the industrial and buisness life of three communities for many years Mr.MacNaughton had many friends and buisness associates who mourn the passing of a gallant Christian gentleman. Surviving Mr.MacNaughton are his wife, the former ELIZABETH SINCLAIR of Goshen, one son, ROBERT F., Goshen; and three grandchildren; also a number of nieces and nephews including a grand-niece,Mrs.ARTHUR TAYLOR, of Antigonish, who following her mother's death was brought up in her uncle's household. The funeral service on Thursday at 2pm was conducted by Rev.D.S.MacLeod of Kings Church and was very largely attended despite severe wintry weather conditions. Music was by the church choir and interment was in Goshen cemetery.
