Mrs. Harold Mosher 1941 The death occurred early Saturday morning of Helen, wife of Harold Mosher, at the early age of 45 years. Mrs. Mosher, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Crouse, of Middle LaHave, suffering recurring illnesses of intense suffering during the past few years, but with hospital care and treament was relieved until her final illness which covered a period of several months. She was a kind and loving wife and mother of a large family of children who have the sympathy of the community. She is survived by her husband; four daughters, Verna, Gwendolyn, Lucille, and Dawn; and three sons, Albert, Donald, and Douglas. She is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Kate Nowe of Riverport; Mrs. Daniel Grimm of Middle LaHave; and Miss Lola Crouse of Bridgewater; and two brothers, Fred Crouse of Middle LaHave and Martin Crouse of Martin's Brook. The funeral was held from her late home on Monday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. Mr. Allen of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg. Burial took place in the Riverport Cemetery at Shepherd's Hill.
Cecil Spindler Handwritten date: June 7, 1949. The funeral of Cecil Spindler, whose death took place at the D.M. Hospital, was held from his late residence, East LaHave, on Friday, conducted by his pastor, Mr. D. Mawhinney, of the Presbyterian Church. St. Andrew's Presbyterian choir assisted in singing hymns,"There is No Night in Heaven" and "Rock of Ages." A request number was sung by Mrs. Mawhinney, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Mr. Spindler was born at Rose Bay 53 years ago- the older son of the late Freeman Spindler, of Rose Bay, and Bessie Parks-Spindler of East LaHave. His father was drowned 54 years ago, while on a schooner carrying herring from Newfoundland to Boston. His mother's death occurred a few years earlier. Mr. spindler, then a lad of eight, was taken into the home of his uncle, Albert Parks and wife Sarah Parks, East LaHave, where he was brought up and remained until their death. Surviving are a wife, the former Nina Meisner of Port Medway and three small children, John, Mary, and Peter, to whom much sympathy is extended. An only sister, Bessie, died when a child and a younger brother, Oscar, was drowned about 17 years ago while on the fishing banks. John Spindler of Rose Bay, Captain Almon Parks and Hugh Parks of East LaHave are uncles of the deceased. The late Captain M.J. Parks of LaHave was an uncle.
James Densmore Harpell 1998 Halifax Chronicle Herald James Densmore Harpell, 70, Northwest, died Tuesday, April 28, 1998, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born at Harpellville, he was a son of the late Spencer and Olive (Keizer) Harpell. He worked for many years until retirement for the Department of Fisheries as second engineer on the Canadian Coast Guard Ship, chebucto. He was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg. He is survived by his wife, the former Cathryn Murphy; daughter, Patty Harpell, Dartmouth; son, Jame H. and wife Linda, Northwest; sisters, Joy Gagnon, Freda Keizer, Port Bickerton; Faye Crawford, Dartmouth; brothers, Malcolm, Harpellville; Robert, Port Bickerton; grandchildren, Stephen and Kristy Creaser, Belinda Steward, and Karen Harpell; great-grandchild, Kaitlyn. He was predeceased by brother, Ross. Graveside and committal service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Martin's Brook Cemetery, Martin's Brook, Rev. Laurence Mawhinney officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Stained Glass Fund or Atlantic Mission Society. Arrangements entrusted to Dana L. Captain Ray Allen Corkum Captain Ray Allen Corkum, 45, of Lunenburg, died suddenly at his home following a lengthy illness. Born at Feltzen South, he was a son of the late Bennett Corkum and Mary (Spindler) Corkum. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Surviving besides his wife, Louise; are one son, Michael, at home; two sisters, Kaye (Mrs. Everette Conrad), Lunenburg; Christabelle(Mrs. Donald Mummery), Saint John; one brother, Captain Ralph Corkum, Riverport; and one brother, Roy, predeceased. Funeral service was held on Monday, May 17th., from Zion's Lutheran Church.
Mary Elizabeth Mader 1949 Bridgewater Bulletin After an illness from childhood, patiently and cheerfully borne, Mary Elizabeth, beloved daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. Oswald Mader, was released from her helplessness and suffering on Friday noon, May 20th. She was 28 years of age. Her passing is keenly felt by her parents and brothers who have the sympathy of the community. Mary is survived by her parents and two brothers, Alfred of Halifax and Robert of Ontario, who reached home just before his sister's passing. There is also in the home her aged grandmother, Mrs. Freeman Mader, who also feels her loss keenly. Two brothers, Edward and Freeman, predeceased her. The funeral service was held at her home on Monday afternoon at 2:30 and was conducted by Rural Dean G.F. Arnold, of St. James' Church of England. Mary's favourite hymns were sung," What A Friend we Have in Jesus," The Old Rugged Cross," and "Peace, Perfect Peace." The solo, "Somewhere" was sung by Rev. J. Parker Matheson, of Trinity United Church. The many beautiful flowers paid silent tribute of the many friends to the deceased and their sympathy to the family. The pall bearers were her brothers, Alfred and Robert, Karl Ernst and Murray Barry. Interment was in Park Cemetery.
Gabriel Publicover Year might have been 1955. Word was received here during the week of the death of Wednesday, of Gabriel Publicover at Somerville, Maass., after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife, who was the former Oda Bushen and two daughters. Interment was on Friday.
Hazel Jane Haughn 1988 Bridgewater Bulletin Hazel Jane Haughn of Pleasantville, passed away at the Fishermen's Memorial Hospital on September 16, 1988. Born at West LaHave, she was the daughter of Obediah and Lucretia Richards. She is survived by four daughters and two sons, Shirley Parks, East LaHave; Frances Parks, Watertown, Mass.; Phyllis Sperry, Halifax; Norma Stockman, at home; Thomas Haughn, British Columbia; and Wayne Haughn, Pleasantville. She had 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Austin Haughn and a son, Gerald. A memorial service was held at St. Peter's Anglican Church, West LaHave with Rev. Currie officiating. Burial was in the Pleasantville Cemetery.

UNKNOWN PAPER - 2 FEBRUARY 1954 VICTOR STEVENSON - Waldegrave - There passed away, on January 25, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. (Rev) Charles FOOTE at Baddeck, C.B., a former resident of this community, Victor STEVENSON, in his 64th year. Born at Brule Point, eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. D.E. STEVENSON, he resided in the Canadian West, for a number of years. Returning to Nova Scotia, he purchased a farm from George D. KENNEDY, where they resided, until four years ago, when he sold his property and moved to Windsor, Ont. Failing health caused him to return to N.S. In the immediate family he is survived by his wife, the former Annie McKINNON of Brule; three daughters and one son, Dorothy, Mrs. FOOTE, Baddeck; Irene, Mrs. HILCHEY, Moncton; Kathleen, Mrs. LENNOX, Windsor, Ont.; and Donald of the R.C.A.F.; also several sisters and brothers. Funeral services were conducted at Baddeck, and interment at Lockerby Cemetery on January 28.
OBIT # 5184 - EASTERN CHRONICLE - JANUARY 15, 1948: Information has been received in New Glasgow of the death at Pittsburg, USA, of H.B. DOUGLAS, one time operating head of The Eastern Car Company Ltd. in Trenton. Older employees will recall that H.B.Douglas was manager at the plant when it was built, and continued in the early years for the better part of a decade in the company's service. A son PAUL, and daughter ELEANOR were well known in New Glasgow. The family returned to their home , Pittsburg, when Mr.Douglas severed his association with the company.
UNKNOWN PAPER - 1977 JOHN R. SUTHERLAND, 76, of River John, died Thursday, March 17, in Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche. Born in Plainfield, Pictou County, he was the son of the late Duncan and Oliver (MacKENZIE) SUTHERLAND. He farmed in Plainfield before moving to River John 13 years ago. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church Scotsburn. Surviving are his wife, the former Dorothy HAYMAN; two daughters, Kaye (Mrs. Victor MacKINNON), Sydney; Shirley (Mrs. Harold WINMILL), River John; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Isabel. Funeral service was held Saturday, March 19 at 2:30 p.m. in Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn, Rev. Waldon MOASE officiating, assisted by Rev. John FRASER. Burial was in Bethel cemetery, Scotsburn.
Annie Aulenback 1914 Progress Enterprise Published: December 16, 1914. On Monday evening, December 7, there passed peacefully away to her reward, Annie Aulenback, the beloved wife of Matthias Aulenback of Farmville. Mrs. Aulenback was in her 77th. year. She was visiting at the home of a neighbour on Sunday, November 29th., and in the evening complained of a chill; this developed into pneumonia from which she died. She was a kindly soul, greatly beloved and full of good deeds. She leaves to mourn a husband and three sisters and a host of friends. The funeral took place on Thursday, December 10th. She was a consistent member of the Baptist Church and her pastor, Rev. B.D. Knott, conducted the funeral service. A large number gathered to pay their last respects to one whom they held in high esteem. The interment was in the Farmville Cemetery. The sympathy of the community goes out to the sorrowing husband and relatives.

Lewis Ellis Carter 1924 The fuenral of the late Lewis Ellis Carter, who died at the Queen Victoria Hospital, North Bay, Tuesday afternoon, November 4th., was held Friday, November 7th. Although it rained incessantly during the afternoon, the funeral cortege was one of the largest in Sturgeon Falls for some time. Rev. J.T. Jewett of the Union Church, assisted by Rev. Canon Piercy of the Anglican Church, conducted the funeral service, held at deceased's residence at 2 p.m. During the service, Mrs. E.J. Martin, Mrs. Gilleland, Mr. E.H. Winn, and Mr. O. Andrews rendered two beautiful hymns,"Lead, Kindly Light" and "Some Day the Silver Chord Will Break," favourite hymns of the deceased. Immediatley the service started, a silence of two minutes was observed by the pupils of the public and high schools in respect of the late Mr. Carter who was a member of the school board. The funeral cortege left the family residence on Holditch Street at about 2:30 p.m. and proceeded to the Union Church Cemetery for interment. The service at the grave was conducted by the I.O.O.F. of which the deceased was a charter member. In the passing of Mr. Carter, Sturgeon Falls has lost one of its prominent and enthusiastic citizens. As town engineer for the past six years he has been an energetic worker and quickly won the admiration of all those with whom he came in contact, and his death will be keenly felt by the entire community. The deceased, who was in his forty-first year, was a native of Nova Scotia, being born at Annapolis Royal. At an early age he moved with his parents to Bridgewater where he resided for fifteen years; then he moved to Springfield, from there he entered the university at Boston. Graduating as an engineer in 1902, he secured a position with the Davison Lumber Company of Springfield. Later he was employed on the Transcontinental Railway at Kenora, and as resident engineer of the Algoma Eastern Railway at Espanola. In 1916 he came to Sturgeon Falls as engineer for the Spanish River Pulp & Paper mills, and after a service of two years left their employ and was assigned to the position of town engineer, in which capacity he worked up to the time of his death. In 1906 he married Miss Lottie Grimm, of Springfield, at Kenora, who with her two daughters, Miriam and Doris and one son, Everett, are left to mourn his loss. Besides is sorrowing family, he leaves one sister, Mrs. R.C. Graves of Waltham, Mass. and four brothers, Rev. Ray of Salmon, Ohio; A.F. of Gardiner, Mass.; W.L. of Greenport, L.I.; and Max of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia.
Bertie Wilbert Ernst 1981 Bridgewater Bulletin Bertie Wilbert Ernst, 86, of Springfield, passed away suddenly on Friday, December 18, 1981, at home. Born at New Cornwall on December 10, 1895, he was the son of Cornelius and Leah (Joudrey) Ernst. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Doberty) Ernst; three brothers, Freeman, Kenneth, and George; and one sister, Mary Jane. Surviving are three sisters, Sylvie (Mrs. aubrey Woodworth), North Billerica, Mass.; Eveline (Mrs. Dean Lohnes), Somerville, Mass.; Hilda (Mrs. Lester Ramey), Natick, Mass.; and oen brother, Howard, Peabody, Mass. Mr.Ernest moved from Cherryfield, Annapolis County to the United States in 1924 and returned to Nova Scotia in 1967.
Wylie C. Grimm 1961 Bridgewater Bulletin Much sympathy is expressed for the wife and family of the late Wylie Grimm, 78, son of the late Albert Grimm, of Springfield. Mr. Grimm has been in failing health for some years, during which time he was frequently hospitalized in Halifax; in the meantime he has been faithfuly cared for by his wife, in their home in Springfield. The end came in Hlaifax, whither the sufferer had been taken a few days previously, hoping something might be done to relieve him. Surviivng besides his wife (nee Lillias Nauss), are an only son, Chester of Brown's Furriers, Halifax; and four daughters; these are Audrey (Mrs. Robert King), of Needham, Mass.; Pauline (Mrs. Karl Malm), of Watertown, Mass.; Margaret (Mrs. Raymond Wagner), Halifax; and Marie (Mrs. Thomas Fitzgerald), Windsor, Ontario; also a brother, Spurgeon Grimm in Halifax. He was predeceased by two young children, a brother, and a sister. Mr. Grimm was born at Springfield and spent practically his entire life here. He was a well-known farmer, merchant, and lumberman, His remains were brought home for burial, and all the children were able to attend the funeral services, conducted by Lic. Harold Price. The topic of his short address was "Whither shall I flee from Thy presence." Hymns by the choir were "Sweet Peace, the Gift of God's Love," and "Sometime We'll Understand." Austen Gough of Halifax sang "The Old Rugged Cross." Mrs. Myrtle Garber was organist. Pall bearers were John Grimm, Glen Carey, Howard Lowe, Robert Mason, Max Weaver, and Lawrence Mailman. A short and private service was held at Langille's Funeral Parlour, Barss Corner, previous to the service in Springfield., with burial in the family lot.
Myrtle Idella Garber 1992 Halifax Chronicle Herald Myrtle Idella Garber, 80, Middleton, died October 30, 1992, in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born at Springfield, she was a daughter of the late Adelbert and Cora (McNayr) Sanford. She was a member of Middleton United Baptist Church; Women's Missionary Society; and Myrtle Rebekah Lodge, No. 46. She was an organist in Springfield United Baptist Church for 30 years and served as president of Springfield Women's Missionary Society for 10 years. She is survived by a daughter, Marion, Middleton; son, Murray, Lower Sackville; sister, Mrs. Reta Naugler, Middleton; two grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Ronald; three sisters, Minnie, Ruth, Pearl. The body is in Warren T. Roop Funeral Home, Middleton, where a Lodge service will be 7:30 p.m. tonight, and where funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Rev. Norman Hovland officiating. Burial will be in Springfield Cemetery. Donations may be made to Springfield Cemetery or Soldiers Memorial Hospital.
