He was predeceased by his wife nine months ago. He was survived by one sister, Mrs. Rosena Acker of Middleton and six brothers, Lorne, William, Wellington, all of North River; Glen, Truro; Garnet, Middleton; and Vernon of Cherryfield Road. Funeral service was held from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North River of which he was a member. Interment in North River Cemetery, Rev. Rolf Meindl officiating. Pallbearers were Roderick Robar, Merlyn Whynott, Richard Robar, Melvin Robar, Murray Robar, and Raymond Robar.

Melba was born August 31, 1909, the daughter of the late Archibald and Nettie (Hirtle) Lyon. She is survived by a sister, Jessie in Lockeport. She was predeceased by husband, Wilfred Henley; sisters, Eva and Flossie; and brothers, Ford, Phinney, Ernest, Milton, Alfred, and Merton in infancy. Cremation has taken place.

    3. John Albert Snyder 1951 Bridgewater Bulletin The death of John Albert Snyder occurred at his home in Midville Branch on Sunday morning, October 28th., after several months illness. Born on December 7th., 1869, he as the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Snyder and had lived his entire life in this community. In religion Mr. Snyder was a strong adherent of the Church of England and in politics a staunch supporter of the Conservative Party. Surviving are his widow, the former Ella Wagner and one daughter Marjorie (Mrs. Clayton Wile), at home; also a sister, Ida (Mrs. Hutt) of Franklin, Mass.; and one brother, Charles of Wallaston, Mass. The funeral on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.,from his late residence was conducted by Rev. A. J. Schenk with interment in the family lot at Midville Branch. Following the burial service at the grave site, a service was held at Mt. Zion Church when Rev. Schenk used as his text, I Thess. 4 ,13-18. Hymns sung were at the house, "A Few More Years Shall Roll," and at the church, "Abide With Me" and "The Lord My Shepherd Is." Pall bearers were Stephen Wentzell, Ray Mailman, Stephen Veinot, and Herbert Mailman.

Eva Barnes 1906-1992 Bridgewater Bulletin The commuities of New Canada and Riverport were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Eva Barnes on October 12, 1992, at Harbour View Haven, Lunenburg. Although in declining health for several years, her passing came as a great shock to family and friends. She was born at New Canada, July 12, 1906, the daughter of the late Alfred and Eliza (Nettie) (Hirtle) Lyon. She is survived by her husband, George; two sisters, Mrs. Jessie Seamone, Stanley Section; and Mrs. Melba Henley, Martin's Brook; and one brother, Ernest, Port Medway. She was predeceased by a son in infancy; one sister, Flossie; and five brothers, Ford, Phinney, Milton, Alfred, and Merton in infancy. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. As a young girl she moved to Boston and worked for many years, moving back to Nova Scotia to retire quite some years ago. She was a very kind and loving person to everyone who knew her and will be gretaly missed by family and friends both in Nova Scotia and the United States. Funeral service was held Thursday morning, October 16, 1992, from St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater where she attended regularly as long as health permitted. Father Joseph MacKinnon officiated at the service. Funeral service was under the direction of R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville. Burial was in the Lakeside Cemetery, New Canada.

    3. OBIT # 5278 - THE EVENING NEWS - FEBRUARY 27,1952 Pictou- The death of MRS.L.A. MacLEAN, wife of REV. LACHLAN A. McLEAN And one of Canada's most distinguished women painters, occured at the home ofher daughter, Mrs. R.G.E. WARK, Montreal, Feb.21, at the age of 78 years. The former SARAH JEAN MUNRO, she was a daughter of the late CAPTAIN and MRS. WILLIAM C. MUNRO of Pictou. She began studying voice at the Boston Conservatory, but midway through had a change of heart about her career and began the serious study of painting in Boston. She continued her studies at Liverpool, England and at Heatherly's School of Art in London, where she obtained her diploma. After her return from England she gave a command exhibition for the Marquis of Lorne, then Governor-General of Canada. The permanent Gallery of Ottawa purchased one of her recent works and a copy was made to be hung in the Court House in Montreal. She was a member of the Women's Art Society for many years and was organizer and first covener of the Studio Group. Greatly interested in young people's work in the church, she was the first chairman of the Girl's Work Board of the Religious Education Association. She held a number of executive offices with the Woman's Missionary Society, being President of the St.John, N.B. Presbyterial at one time. She was also on the United Church Presbyterial and Conference Branch executives in the Quebec and Montreal areas. A cousin, HON. E.M. MacDONALD was Minister of Militia and Defence during World War One. Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter, MRS. WARK; a grandson and granddaughter. The funeral was held from the Pictou United Church Sunday afternoon, Feb.24, with Rev.A.H. Moore officiating , assisted by Rev.A.T. MacDonald of Merigomish and Rev. Dr.L.H. MacLean, Pictou. Two hymns "The Lord's My Shepherd" and "Dear Lord and Father Of Mankind", were sung. Interment was at Haliburton cemetery.

UNKNOWN PAPER - 27 OCTOBER 1926 MARGARET MACLEOD, widow of the late Donald MacLEOD, a respected resident of The Falls, passed away at her home on Tuesday Oct. 12th after several months' illness at the age of sixty-eight years. The deceased was the eldest daughter of the late William BAILLIE of Earltown. She was a great sufferer but endured her suffering with great Christian fortitude. All that loving care and tender nursing could do was done for her. She was a woman with a fine personality, devoted to her home and family. Always bright and cheerful, her death is a source of real sorrow to the bereaved family, and all who enjoyed the privilege of her friendship. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. The funeral was held from the home residence, and was largely attended by a host of relatives and friends, who came from various sections to pay their last respects to one they had loved and honored. The floral tributes were many and beautiful. The services at the home and grave were conducted by Rev. A. FERGUSON of Little Harbor, a former pastor. Interment was at The Falls cemetery on the 14th of October where the remains were laid beside those of her husband, who had predeceased her four years before. She leaves to mourn the loss of a loving mother, two sons and one daughter, also five sisters and two brothers. Her memory will be cherished in the home and community.

Born at Upper Branch, he was a son of the late Alvin and Sadie (Hirtle) Crouse. He is survived by his son, Philip, Lower Northfield; sister, Barbara Frank, Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Arlene Crouse and half-brother, Russell Hirtle. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Helen Grace Wentzell 1994 Bridgewater Bulletin The small community of Midville Branch was shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Helen Grace Wentzell on Monday, September 19, 1994, at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, at the age of 75. Born at Farmington, she was the daughter of the late William and Annie (Hubley) Sperry. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She lived all her life on a farm, and she loved to garden. She also loved quilting, knitting, and sewing. She leaves to mourn her loss, husband, Vernon; four daughters, Marguerite (Mrs. Peter Poirier), Bridgewater; Carol (Mrs. David Weagle), Upper Branch; Vera (Mrs. Donald Oickle), and Deborah (Mrs. Avard Foster), both of Midville Branch; three sons, Roger, Hemford; Rex, Riverport; and John, East River; four sisters, Marie Nelson and Kathleen Sperry, both of Farmington; Bessie Silver, Watford; Glennis Wentzell, West Northfield; brother, Douglas, Bridgewater, 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Medford; a daughter in infancy; two grandsons, Monte and Michael; a great granddaughter, Ginger; brother, Charles; and sister, Roxie Eisnor.

Born at Baker Settlement, he was a son of Olive (Wentzell) Seamone of Baker Settlement and the late Reginald Seamone. He was employed with the Town of Bridgewater as Chief of Police. He owned and operated Seamone's Meats in Midville Branch for several years. He was past president of the Bridgewater Baseball Association For several years he was involed with EMO in Bridgewater; involved with Crime Prevention Association as well as numerous other groups and associations in the province. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Kim (Lee); son, Blaine, Toronto; grandson, Nickolaus, Ottawa; stepson, Tyler, at home; stepdaughter, Latasha, Martin's Point; brother, Wendell (Judy), Blockhouse; sisters, Joyce (Walter) Hayes, Colby Village; Shirlette Emino, Simpson's Corner. He was predeceased by his first wife, Joan (Rafuse); sisters, Marlene and Maritta. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 today in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater.     3. OBIT # 5276 - THE EVENING NEWS - FEBRUARY 27,1952: Trenton- A native of this town, DONALD A. MATHESON, Sr., died December 31 at Trinity General Hospital, Chico, California. He had been a patient there for four months. He was 90 years old and news of his death has only recently been received here. He went to the United States and California 65 years ago, and was a miner before his retirement. In 1892 he became a naturalized citizen of that country. He was a charter member of Chico Elks Lodge. Surviving are two sons, DONALD A. MATHESON Jr. of Lewiston and LAWRENCE MATHESON of Dayton, Ohio. Funeral services were held Friday at MacDonald's chapel. Following the service the body was taken to Sacremento for cremation and the ashes placed on the family plot at Lewiston where Mr.Matheson's wife and one son are buried.

    3. UNKNOWN PAPER - SEPTEMBER 1942 MATTHEW NELSON - There passed away on Sept. 23, an aged and much respected citizen Matthew NELSON, aged 88 years. Mr. NELSON was born and lived his life at New Truro Road, near Tatamagouche Village. His wife, formerly Olive LANGILLE, of New Annan, passed away twenty-four years ago, and soon after this he went to live with his daughter, Mrs. George TUCKER and Mr. TUCKER on a nearby farm. For about 18 years he has been in poor health and during the past year has been confined to his bed. Mr. NELSON was the second son in a family of seven boys and one girl. Of these two brothers and one sister survive. They are John, Tatamagouche, Daniel, and Mary, Mrs. EUREKA, both of Waterbury, Conn. Mr. NELSON's family, a son and two daughters, also survive. They are, Nora, Mrs. George TUCKER, with whom he lived during his illness, and who nursed him with great devotion, Beatrice, Mrs. Calvin MacNUTT, North River and Ira of Amherst. Also several grandchildren, two of whom are with the Canadian Army overseas. The funeral on Friday was largely attended. His pastor, Rev. W.H. DAVIS, conducted the service and was assisted by members of Sharon United Church Choir. Miss Greta BONNYMAN sang "In the Beautiful Garden of Prayer." The pall bearers were Ray and Stirling MacNUTT, North River, Wilfred and Richard NELSON, Amherst, Lloyd LANGILLE and Bruce TUCKER, New Truro Road. Interment was in Sharon Cemetery in the family lot.

    3. Mrs. Bernardine G. Beck 1979 Bridgewater Bulletin Bernardine Beck, 58, wife of Ernest Beck, Upper Branch, passed away at her home early Sunday evening, April 8, 1979. Though ill for several years, she was always ready with a smile for her many friends and family. She was cared for by her family with the help of Beverley Richards. Bernardine was born at Upper Branch September 10, 1920, the daughter of the late Jabez and Ellen (Wentzell) Mader. She lived at Upper Branch all her life. She is survived by her husband, Ernest; and father-in-law, Dennis, Upper Branch; stepmother, Mrs. Laura Mader, Harbour View Haven; son, Melvin, Whynott's Settlement; daughter, Jean (Mrs. Gary Young); and two granddaughters, Michelle and Tracie, all of Dayspring; a sister, Unita (Mrs. Ellison Conrad), Upper Branch; a brother, Bruce, Bridgewater; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a half-sister, Mrs. Helen Roy, Langley, B.C.; and a grandson, Dwayne Beck, Whynott's Settlement. Funeral service was held at the Union Church, Upper Branch, on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Officiating was Rev. Randy Crozsman of the New West Pine United Church of which Bernardine was a member. Hymns sung were "Abide With Me" and "What A Friend we Have in Jesus." Organist was Mrs. Clifford Blackadar. Pallbearers were Lester, Arnold, and Willis Beck, Ray Wagner, St.Clair Wentzell, and Ellison Conrad. Burial was in the family plot in Upper Branch Cemetery.

She was a former co-owner and operator along with her husband John, of Walker's Grocery, in Brooklyn. She was a member of Pilgrim United Church for many years and served as treasurer for 37 years. She was former secretary for the Brooklyn School Board. She was a member of Queens Chapter 34, Order of the Eastern Star, Liverpool and served as secretary and Worthy Matron for Pinehurst Rebekah Lodge, Liverpool and at the time of her death, was serving as Noble Grand for the seventh term. She is survived by her daughter, Hattie and her husband Dennis Hagen, Indian Harbour; sons, John and his wife Marie, Milton; Robert and his wife Aileen, Liverpool; grandchildren, Maria, Karia, Donald, Ronald, Joan, Janet, Leslie, Andrew, Paula, Margo, and Terry; great-grandchildren, Kristina, Tyler, Melanie, Benjamin, Christopher, Jonathan, Amy, Kevin, Ryan, Shelden, and Taylor; sister, Esther Clayborne, Hamilton, Ontario. She was predeceased by her husband, John Knight; and a brother, Andrew. Visitation will be today, January 11, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. where a Rebekah Lodge service will be held at 7 p.m., an Order of the Eastern Star service will be held at 7:30 p.m., all in Chandlers' Funeral Chapel, Liverpool.     3. Edward Morgan, Esquire 1891 Lunenburg Progress Published: March 18, 1891. After a few days illness, Edward Morgan, Esquire, died at his home, New Germany on Monday morning last. The deceased was among the prominent landmarks of this county. He came from Annapolis with his father when a boy of fifteen, settled at New Germany about 1830 and was consquently among the first settlers. He filled the office of Justice of the Peace over forty years, was a striking figure in the old court of sessions up to the hour of its abolition and was a candidate in five elections for a seat at the municipal council board. He was a merchant, farmer, Methodist, and a Liberal. An aged widow and seven grown up children remain behind to mourn the loss of a kind father and husband who died at the age of 75 years.

    3. OBIT # 5265 - EASTERN CHRONICLE - 22 MAR 1939 EAST RIVER, St. Mary's This community was deeply moved and saddened on hearing of the sudden passing of MRS.CHESTER GUNN. Mrs. Gunn had been in poor health for the past eight years and while gradually weakening her condition was not critical. She contracted influenza Friday evening and passed away Sunday afternoon, March 19. Mrs. Gunn, nee MYRTLE ALMA TATE, was born 44 years ago in Aspen (Guysborough County) and, except for a period of seven years before her marriage, had spent all her life in this province. Her home was always filled with the cheerful voices of children and all who entered felt the Christian atmosphere that pervaded the place. Mrs. Gunn was a devout Christian and a member of the Presbyterian Church of which her husband is an elder. Before her illness she was a regular attendant at the services and an active member of the W.M.S. The sympathy of the community goes out to her husband, CHESTER GUNN, and their five children, FRANCES, RUTH, ETHEL, EDITH and JAMES. She is also survived by her mother MRS.
