    3. Arthur Henry Aulenback 1992 Bridgewater Bulletin Arthur Henry Aulenback, age 73, of Wilevile, passed away Thursday, February 13, 1992, at home. He was born at Bridgewater, December 25, 1918. He was the son of the late Arthur James and Matilda Jane (Weagle) Aulenback. He is survived by a bother, Stephen, Wileville; three sisters, Mary Beck, Margaret Weagle, both of Bridgewater; Blossom Denny, Glace Bay; a foster brother, Norman Weagle, Watford. He was predeceased by a brother, Leander and a sister, Viola. Funeral service for Arthur was held Monday, February 17, 1992, at 11:00 a.m. at Sweeny's Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater. Lieut. L. Dove, Salvation Army, officiated. Pallbearers were Frank Weagle, Ivan Beck, Rodney Beck, and Mander Corkum. Burial was at Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater.

    3. OBIT # 5158 - EASTERN CHRONICLE - 4 MARCH 1948 MACKAY, MARGARET JANE - Friends and acquaintances from all sections of Pictou County gathered at the home of DONALD A. MacKAY, Riverton, on Sunday afternoon, February 29, to pay final tribute to MRS.R.H.MacKAY, widow of R.H.MacKAY, former Deputy Minister of Labor for the Province of Nova Scotia, and widely known and esteemed resident of the county for many years. The former MARGARET JANE FRASER, daughter of the late DANIEL FRASER and JESSIE BARCLAY FRASER, Mrs.MacKay was born in River John, Pictou County, 79 years ago. Following her marriage to R.H.MacKay, the deceased resided in New Glasgow for over 30 years and was closely associated with the affairs of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of which she was a staunch member. Active in community work while her health permitted and a gracious hostess, Mrs.MacKay will be missed by a wide circle of friends. Two years ago she received a broken hip from a fall in her home on Maple Ave., New Glasgow, and was confined to her bed from that time until her passing on Friday, February 27, at an early hour of the morning. Following her accident she was a patient for some months in Aberdeen Hospital, later removed to her New Glasgow home, and finally to the home of her son, DONALD A.MacKAY, of Riverton. She is survived by one daughter, HELEN,at home; one son, DONALD A., Riverton; three grandchildren; three nieces, Mrs,GEORGE IRVING, New Glasgow; Mrs.MURRAY CAMPBELL, Westville; Miss JESSIE CONN, Lethbridge, Alta; and one nephew, THOMAS D. FRASER of Westville. Two brothers predeceased her; J.D.B.FRASER of Westville in 1946 and JAMES W.FRASER in Alberta some years previously. The largely attended funeral was held from the home of her son, Donald A. MacKay, Riverton, on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Rev.Murray Y. Fraser, First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton officiating at the service. The choirs of First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton and Westminster Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow were in attendance and assisted in the singing of : "The Lord's My Shepherd" and "Lead Kindly Light", favorite hymns of the deceased. The many floral tributes bore silent testimony to the esteem in which Mrs. MacKay was held. Pall bearers were Dr.Weldon Fraser, Barclay Fraser, Aubrey MacKay, Robert MacKay, George Irving and Thomas E.Fraser. Interment was made at Riverton cemetery.

UNKNOWN PAPER - 1 AUGUST 1946 HAVELOCK MACNUTT - One of the most largely attended funeral services ever held in Tatamagouche Mountain was that of the late Havelock MacNUTT from his late home on Sunday, July 28. He was 67 years of age. Rev. George WHIDDEN of Tatamagouche officiated. He spoke beautifully of Heaven and our future life there if we carried on our work as faithfully as had Mr. MacNUTT in his sogoun of earth. He had learned to live here on earth peacefully and faithfully to wife and family and his church and community. To all its organizations he gave unabtrusive leadership and splendid assistance. The beautiful floral offerings testified to the large circle of friends and acquaintances. He was one of a large family of the late Mr. and Mrs. William McNUTT, of whom there were four brothers and sisters. Mrs. Robt. AITCHESON, Mrs. C.J. COCK, and Mr. Rufus McNUTT are the only surviving members. Those who passed soon were Mrs. Robt. KENNEDY, Mrs. Gavin BELL, Alexander and Rufus MacNUTT. In his immediate family, he leaves to mourn, his wife, Elizabeth MacLANDERS, three sons, Earle, George and Will and one daughter Mrs. Lloyd BLAIR, one son Alonzo and one daughter Mable predeceased him. There are two grandchildren, Terence and Colleen SUTHERLAND of Hamilton, Ont. The Tata. Mtn. Choir sang three beautiful hymns "Sweetly Resting", "Rock of Ages" and "The Home Over There." Pall bearers were John, Rob and Arthur McLANDERS, Sterling MacNUTT, David BELL, Arnold COCK, Lawrence KENNEDY. Interment was made at Tatamagouche Mountain Cemetery.

Mildred Maxine Mader 2005 Halifax Chronicle Herald Mildred Maxine "Mil" Mader, 83, Chester, passed away peacefully March 16, 2005, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, with all her children and grandchildren by her side. Born at Simpson's Corner, she was a daughter of the late John and Samantha (Ernst) Lowe. A graduate of Maritime Beauty Academy, Halifax, Mil operated her own hair salon from her family residence until 1960. She was an active and long-time member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Chancel and Ladies Guild, Sunday School teacher and also a Brownie leader for many years; life member of Chester Volunteer Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary; life member of Royal Canadian Legion, Butler Branch 44 Ladies Auxiliary, Chester. From October, 1960-October, 2004, she acted as Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages for the area. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, reading, and her favourite places were at home and cottage with her loving family around her. Mildred is survived by her loving family, Dana (Sally), Chester; John (Sharon), Chester Grant; Christopher (Sharon), Chester Basin; daughters, Angela (Michael) Webber, Chester; and Tanya (Terry) Rafuse, Middle River; grandchildren, Carla and Vanessa and their mother, Joan; Lisa, Matthew, and Andrew, Lesek, Megan, and Samantha; great-grandson, Jesse; sister, Eileen Snyder, New Minas. She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene; sisters, Linda, Ina, Goldie, Alvina, and LaVerne; brothers, Elwin, Fred, Lawton, Murray, Glen, infant brother Carmen; and grandson, Charlie in infancy. At her request, there will be a private fmaily gathering today in Davis Funeral Home, Chester. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Chester with Father Jim McCorriston officiating. Burial to follow in Bayview Cemetery, Chester. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to St. Stephen's Anglican Church Cemetery Fund or a charity of choice.

Born at Simpson's Corner, she was a daughter of the late John A. and Samantha (Ernst) Lowe. She was a member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Chester. LaVerne worked at a hair salon in Chester with her sister, Mildred, for many years and was an avid card player. Surviving are her husband, Clyde M.; son, Clyde Jr., Kelowna, B.C.; sisters, Mildred Mader, Chester; Eileen Snyder, New Minas; grandson, Wade (Selina), Chester Grant; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Matthew; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by son, Cedric; sisters, Linda, Ina, Goldie, Alvina; brothers, Elwin, Fred, Lawton, Murray, Glen, and Carmen in infancy. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral service as per her request. The death occurred at the Dawson Memorial Hospital, Bridgewater, on Monday afternoon, of Emily, wife of Edward deLong, Union Square. Deceased was the daughter of the late Benjamin Wagner and Mrs. Wagner and was born at Upper Northfield 64 years ago. Besides her husband, she is survived by an aged mother; four brothers, Benjamin Wagner, Worcester, Mass.; Wallace Wagner, Pine Grove; Ozram of Livermore Falls, Maine; and Titus, Union Square; ons sister, Mrs. J. Oickle of Lower Northfield. There also remain an adopted son and daughter, James and Lillie. She was a consistent member of the United Church. THe funeral service was held on Thursday conducted by her pastor, Rev. Colin McRae. (I am not sure the daughter's name is Lillie; the copy is very poor.)

Mrs. Eva Lucy Palmer 1961 Bridgewater Bulletin Mrs. Eva Lucy Palmer of Barss Corner passed away at the Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg onTuesday, October 10th., at the age of 70 years. She was the daughter of the late Milledge and Nellie Balser Crawford of Lower Middleton. She is survived by one step-son, Laurie of Worcester, Massachusetts; and two step-daughters, Ernestine (Mrs. Nate Bain), of Yarmouth; Louise (Mrs. Warren Jeans), of Halifax; also several cousins in the Annapolis Valley. She was predeceased by her husband, George Palmer, also by one sister and three brothers. The funeral service was held from Langille's Funeral Home, Barss Corner on Thursday afternoon with the Rev. Peter MacDonald officiating, assisted by Rev. Walter Killam. Interment was in the Indian Brook Cemetery.

He lived in Hopewell for the past 28 years, having previously lived in Fiverton and Stillwater. He was a member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church, Hopewell, and was a retired employee of Tidewater Construction for 31 years. He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was a member of Branch 137, Royal Canadian Legion, Hopewell. Besides his wife, the former Mary MacDonald, he is survived by a son, Terry, Eureka; four daughters, Connie (Mrs Lee Hoare), Lake Echo; Kathy (Mrs Tom Marvin), Delta, B.C.; Beverly Ward, Eureka; Marlene (Mrs Don MacDougall), Dartmouth; a brother, Cliff, Sherbrooke; two sisters, Ruby (Mrs Trueman Cruickshank), Sherbrooke; Evelyn (Mrs Scott MacKeen), Aspen, Guysborough County; nine grandchildren; two great-grandsons. Mrs. MacDONALD who was 79 years of age was a daughter (Marion) of the late George and Dorothy (MacLEOD) SUTHERLAND, The Falls. She is survived by one son George, San Diego, California and two daughters, Tena (Mrs. John MacKAY) Fairview, Alberta and Dorothy at home. All were home at the time of her funeral. Also surviving are three brothers, Dan, in North Dakota, John in Florida and Hugh, Tatamagouche Mountain. She was predeceased by her husband seven years ago, also by four brothers, William, James, Alex and George, and three sisters, Mary, Barbara and Dorothy. The funeral was held Monday afternoon, October 31, from the home conducted by Rev. Perry F. ROCKWOOD. Burial was in The Falls cemetery.

A very sudden death took place at Centre Range on Saturday, when Artemas Zinck was taken with heart failure and died in a few minutes at the residence of his sister, Mrs. Henry Deal, where he made his home. He was born at Parkdale October 18, 1927. He was the son of the late Stewart Rafuse and Dorothy Rafuse (Wentzell), Rosedale Nursing Home. He farmed all his life until illness forced him to retire. He was a past member of Maple Lodge, No. 155 IOOF; also a member of the Agricultural Society; MicMac Rod and Gun Club, Wentzell's Lake; Bridgewater Farmers Co-op; and the Christmas Trees Producers Association. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Rafuse, Rosedale Home; two sisters, Margaret (Mrs. Sherman Hiltz), Bramalea, Ontario; Madelyn (Mrs. Bliss Mosher), New Germany; foster sister, Francisca Schooten, Halifax; foster brother, Leo Nowe, Parkdale; a niece; three nephews; two great nieces and a great nephew. He was predeceased by his father, Stewart A. Rafuse. The service was held from the New Germany Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m., June 2, 1993, Rev. Karl Uhrstrom officiating. Burial at Parkdale Cemetery. Mrs. Rhea Spidle 1971 Bridgewater Bulletin The wide circle of relatives and freinds of Mrs. Rhea Alice (Wentzell) Spidle, were deeply saddened to learn of her death on April 16, 1971, at her home in Scarsdale. She had celebrated her 86th. birthday last February 11th. Born at Lower Foster's Settlement, now Maplewood, she was the daughter of Simeon and Annie (Lantz) Wentzell. She was a life member ofthe United Baptist Women's Mission Union and a teacher of music. Up until her marriage to Charles Spidle in 1906, she was church organist at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Parkdale, of which she ws a devoted member. Funeral service was held at the Emmanuel Baptist Church on Monday, April 19, at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor C.A. Armstrong officiating. He read Psalm 90 and scriptural passages from John, Chapter 14 and Mark, Chapter 14, with the text from the 8th. verse which says,"She hath done what she could." He paid tribute to Mrs. Spidle's memory for the long years of service, of doing what she could, and for her kindly manner that endeared her to all she met. The church choir led in the singing of the hymns,"My Saviour, First of All" and " Sweet Hour of Prayer." Pall bearers were Carl and Doran Spidle, Ray Wentzell, Robert Rhodenizer, LeRoy Webber, and Adelbert Veinotte. Interment was in the Parkdale Cemetery. Surviving are one daughter, Arlene (Mrs. Oran Veinot), Scarsdale, with whom she resided; one grand-daughter, Mary (Mrs. Richard Eldridge), Chester Basin; one brother, Raleigh Wentzell, residing at the old Wentzell homestead; also a number of nieces and nephews. The floral tributes and memorials paid silent tribute to the esteem held for the deceased.

Charles Guy Spidle 1960 Bridgewater Bulletin After a few weeks of illness, at an early hour Monday morning, December 26th., Charles Guy Spidle passed peacefully away in his sleep at his home at Scarsdale, at the age of 78 years, 4 months. He was the son of the late Abner Spidle and Josephine (Robar) Spidle and was born at New Cornwall in 1882. At an early age, he, with his parents, moved to his late home at Scarsdale. He is survived by his wife, the former Rhea Wentzel of Maplewood; one daughter, Arleen (Mrs. Oran Veinot); one granddaughter, Mary Veinot; one sister, Minnie (Mrs. Edward Spidle), Barss Corner; and a number of nieces and nephews, besides a great many other relatives and friends. One brother, Bertram, predeceased him in 1935. He was a member of Emmanuel United Baptist Church of Parkdale-Maplewood. The funeral service, conducted by Rev. W.G. Killam of Barss Corner, was held in Emmanuel Baptist Church, with burial in the cemetery at Parkdale, Wednesday at 2 o'clock. The church choir was in attendance, accompanied at the organ by Mr. Arthur Langille, Barss Corner and sang "The Garden of Prayer" and "When My Life's Work is Ended." The pall bearers were Carl and Doran Spidle, Murray, Ray, and Leland Wentzel, and LeRoy Webber.

The former Lula Mattison, of Oxford, she was a member of the Baptist Church of New Glasgow, and was prominent in the Women's Council and the Red Cross. Surviving are her husband, Joseph; four sisters, two living in Oxford, and one each in Truro and California; and two brothers, on in Oxford and one in Reno, Nevada. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from her home with burial in Robie Street cemetery, Truro.

UNKNOWN PAPER - 30 JULY 1949 BLANCHE WEATHERBEE - Wentworth - The sudden passing of Mrs. (nee Blanche THOMPSON) WEATHERBEE occurred at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax, July 22, after a prolonged illness. Besides her husband she is survived by a son, Cecil Sheldon and granddaughter, Anne, at home, one brother, Allen THOMPSON, U.S.A., and a number of nieces and nephews in Nova Scotia and New York. Funeral services were largely attended, and held at the Centre United Church and conducted by Rev. Mr. STEWART and Mr. McLEAN. The floral offerings were beautiful and numerous. This gracious lady added much to the welfare of this community by her Christian exemplary life, including a period of almost a half century as a Christian Church organist.

    3. Hugh R. Anderson 1976 Hugh R. Anderson, 89, of 45 Green Street, died Monday, May 24, at the Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born at Lunenburg he was a son of the late Captain Benjamin and Sarah Anderson. He was a lifelong resident of Lunenburg and spent his working life on the waterfront in the ship chandling and building supply business.He was a long-time member and chief of the Lunenburg Fire Department and was Lunenburg County chairman of the Boy Scouts of Canada; a lifelong member of St. John's Anglican Church and a former vestry clerk and warden. He is survived by two sons, Dr. N.B. Anderson, Lunenburg; Arthur H., Rockingham; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Laura and a number of brothers and sisters. The body rested at Sweeny's Funeral Home and burial service was held in St. John's Anglican Church Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Austin Munroe officiated with Rev. Gregory Pritchard assisting. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg. The Lunenburg Fire Department attended in a body and the following members were active pallbearers: Fred Dauphinee, William Dauphinee,Robert Stoddard, Charles Beck, Richard Mason, and Victor Corkum. Honourary pallbearers were Dr. Owen B. Smith, Rayburn Lohnes, Bertram Morash, Captain Angus Tanner, Frank Adams, and Gerald Schwartz.

    3. Edward C. Walters 1941 The funeral of Edward C. Walters was held from his late residence on Thursday afternoon and from thence to St. John's Anglican Church. The late Mr. Walters had been ill but a few days and his death came quite unexpectedly to his family and friends. Mr. Walters was born at Garden Lots, a son of the late John and Margaret Berringer Walters, seventy-eight years ago. During the early part of his life he followed the sea and for many years after his retirement from this occuaption he worked as a ship carpenter in the shipyards of Smith & Rhuland. During the latter years of his life he was an employee of Zwicker & Company Limited. The late Mr. Walters was an Anglican and a life long and devoted member of St. John's Anglican Church. He was a member of Unity Lodge, A.F.& A.M. The services at the home, the church, and the graveside were conducted by the Rev. W.E. Ryder, rector of St. John's and the members of Unity Lodge attended the funeral service and performed their last rites at the graveside. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery. The late Mr. Walters leaves to mourn the loss of a loving and considerate husband and father his widow, formerly Fanny Curll, daughter of the late Stephen and Mrs. Curll of this town; four daughters, Mae, Mrs. Douglas Doody of Brooklyn, New York; Miss Melda Walters of Halifax; Lue, Mrs. L.A. Seppi, of Whittier, California; and Marjorie, Mrs. Jollimore of Blandford; and three sons, Byron of East End, Saskatchewan; and Milton and Charles of Lunenburg. He is also survived by one brother, Lemuel Walters of Garden Lots. In token of respect to the late Mr. Walters, the business offices of Zwicker & Company and the Progress Enterprise Company Limited were closed during Thursday afternoon.
