    3. OBIT # 5229 - EASTERN CHRONICLE - 28 DEC 1944: KATHERINE SUTHERLAND The mourning and tears that followed the announcement of the unexpected death of Miss KATHERINE SUTHERLAND were not confined to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs.FRANK SUTHERLAND, High St., New Glasgow. They were general. Those who knew her intimately, grieved deeply, those who knew of her joined in the grief for an exceptional soul had been taken. Miss Sutherland went to Montreal to consult a specialist with respect to brain and eye trouble. Mr.Frank Sutherland accompained her. A few weeks later Mrs.Sutherland was sent for, as it was feared an operation was necessary. But before furthur treatment was undertaken, she passed away in her sleep on Friday morning. As the poet so expresses it "But when the sun in all his state Illumined the Eastern skies She passed through Glory's morning gate And walked in Paradise". To few girls was it given to play such a lovely part in the life orbit in which she moved. Her acquaintances were her warm friends. By her natural charm and pleasant ways she brightened the circle of that acquaintanship and because of her graciousness she was truly beloved.(Many lines meaning the same thing so I will skip some.) It was a sad, searching Christmastide for the parents and friends of KAY SUTHERLAND. It was expressed in the funeral service in the Trinity United Church on Tuesday afternoon when that edifice was thronged with persons gathered to pay their last respects to the young woman. Rev.C.R.F. MacLennan delivered a searching message, the choir sang sweetly. The pall bearers H.Gray, C.Gray, Frank Fraser, Howard MacKay, Roy MacKenzie, and Harold Johnson, carried out the flowers for the waiting carriages and bore all that was mortal of this beloved girl to its last resting place.

Not satisfied with past honors showered upon him , he persisted to serve and valiantly died in the service, a soldier of the King.
