    3. OBIT # 5234 - EASTERN CHRONICLE - APRIL 6, 1939 MRS.ENON MacDONALD Another of that fine, outstanding generation of an earlier Pictou, the backbone of the county has passed to her rest in the person of that grand old lady, Mrs.ENON MacDONALD of Hopewell. Mrs.MacDonald celebrated her 103rd birthday on Christmas day and only a fortnight ago, on a sunny day, had a walk on the veranda of her home in Hopewell. She was only ill for a week with a cold that turned to pneumonia. The first day of her illness it took the combined persuasions of her son and daughter to keep her in bed. Mrs.MacDonald liked to be up and doing, hearing the day's news and exchanging with her daughter the usual household conversation. But sometime that wonderful heart that had beaten for 103 years must stop, that clear brain, that keen but kind wit, that lovable nature, must pass away, but in passing leave behind, with family and friends the loviest of memories to cherish of this sweetest of ladies. Mrs.MacDonald was a staunch Presbyterian, devoted to her church and its missions, an interest that only died with her passing. She loved children and flowers, she loved company and possessed that friendliness and hospitality that endeared her to all who came in contact with her. Her life was peaceful and happy as was her passing. Mrs.MacDonald was born at New Lairg, ISABEL MacLEOD, a daughter of the late ROBERT and JANET GORDON MacLEOD, and was the last survivor of a family of ten. She was twice married, first to SIMON FRASER, Marshdale, to which union was born a daughter, KATHERINE, who had lived in Boston for many years and died in Hopewell seven years ago. Her death was a severe shock to her mother. Later she married ENON MacDONALD, of Hopewell and three children survive, ALVIN F., of the Public Archives,Ottawa; MARY,R.N., at home, who so faithfully cared for her mother and ROBERT L., retired C.N.R. engineer, Stellarton, to mourn the passing of a devoted and loving mother. To the family is extended the deepest sympathy of their many friends. The funeral will be held at the home of the deceased in Hopewell, on Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Mr.Alvin F. MacDonald arrived home last night to be with his sister and brother in this trying ordeal.
