    3. Lakeside Cemetery, New Canada ZWICKER Nursing Sister Alice L. Zwicker 1878-1931 Mrs. Joseph Zwicker 1931 A Maine Newspaper The whole community is much shocked and saddened at the sudden death of Mrs. Alice L. MacKay-Zwicker, wife of Joseph Zwicker of China, who passed away last Wednesday at the Thayer Hospital, Waterville, with meningitis of the brain, having been ill but three days. She was born in Halifax (should probably be New Canada) 49 years ago, graduated from the nursing training hospital there and was one of the first Canadian nurses who volunteered for service in the World War. She had four and one half years service abroad, being in England, Scotland, France, and Belgium. Ten years ago she married Joseph Zwicker of New Germany, Nova Scotia and later they came to China, buying a farm here. Mrs. Zwicker was a member of the China Baptist Church and of Silver Lake Grange. She was a woman of high Christian character and principles, whose firm faith in God was translated and embodied into her every day life, full of kindly deeds of love and helpfulness. She was often ministering to the sick and suffering and her last work on earth was that of caring for a dying neighbour. The church has lost a most efficient and faithful worker and all the community mourns the passing of this good woman. Mrs. Zwicker leaves a husband; one brother, J.C. MacKay of Mt. Vernon, Maine; and three sisters of Nova Scotia. The funeral services were held at the church on Thursday forenoon, Rev. E.E. Harris giving a true and tender tribute to the life of the departed one. Mrs. Zwicker was a great lover of flowers and every Sunday last summer, she brought them for the church altar and so it seemed most fitting that her casket should be covered with flowers given by the church, the Grange, the Dorcas Society, and by relatives and friends. The burial will be at Halifax (should be New Canada), Nova Scotia.
