Mrs. Alexander Rodenheiser 1910 Lunenburg Progress Published: June 1, 1910. Mrs. Alexander Rodenheiser died on Sunday, aged 42 years. She was a daughter of Leonard Beck. She leaves a husband and three children, one of them being only two weeks old.
Julia MacKay 2004 Halifax Chronicle Herald Julia Blanche MacKay, 97, Oceanview Manor, Eastern Passage, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2004, in the manor. Born at Portland, Maine, on October 13, 1906, she was a daughter of the late Joseph E. Kelly and Adelia Blanche (Veinot) Kelly. Surviving are children, Peter (Vivian); Delia (Leigh) Langille; Sandra; Emereth"Junior"; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Emereth Porter; grandson, Gary Wayne Langille; great-granddaughter, Kendra Dawn Lauren Bezanson. She dedicated her body to medical science. There will be a memorial service at a later date. Donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Emereth MacKay 1963 Bridgewater Bulletin The community of New Germany and surrounding districts were shocked on Thursday to learn of the sudden death of Emereth Porter MacKay, who had gone with a friend to spend the day at Camp 12 at Medway, which seemed so much like home to him as he worked for years with the Mersey Paper Company at Caledonia, Lake Rosignol, and Medway. During the hours of the afternoon he passed away. He had been in failing health for some years, due to a heart attack which he suffered five years ago and for many months he was tenderly cared for by his daughter, Mrs. Leigh Langille and family, where he made his home. He was born at Upper Northfield in 1895, the son of Mrs. Mary MacKay. He was a quiet man and endeared himself to all who knew him, a kind neighbour, and friend. He also was a veteran of the First World War, serving in Siberia. He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife, Julia (nee Kelley); two daughters, Delia (Mrs. Leigh Langille) and Sandra (Mrs. Edward Zwicker Jr.), of New Germany; two sons, Peter with the R.C.A.F at Hollberg, B.C.; and Emereth Jr. of Halifax; also two half-sisters, Alma (Mrs. Everette Whynot), of Union Square; and Lou (Mrs. Clarence Hirlte), of Oakland; also a half-brother, Cecil Fancy of Roslindale, Mass.; three grandchildren, Gary, Diane, and Gerald Langille, of New Germany; also a host of relatives and friends. The funeral at L.L.Langille's Funeral Home at Barss Corner was largely attended and interment was in the cemetery at Union Square. The service was conducted by Rev. P.S. MacDonald of the United Church. Hymns sung were "Jesus, Saviour, Pilot Me" and "Jesus, Keep me Near the Cross." The pall bearers were all tractor operators as he was the first tractor operator the Mersey Paper Company had. They were Maynard Carver, Edward Meisner, Clarence Robar, Stuart Veinotte, Perry Veinot, and Ivan Flemming.

Mr. Wilson was a son of the late JAMES HUGH and LAURENIA (Rushton) WILSON. He was a member of St. Andrew's Church, Westville, and was a coal miner. Surviving are his wife, the former EDITH BLANCHE COLEMAN, a daughter , GWEN, Halifax; a son, JAMES, in Ontario; two grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, HANNAH (Mrs. Fred Palmer), Wentworth; CLARA (Mrs. Les Tomlinson), IRENE (Mrs. Clark Wallace), both of Stellarton; a brother, ERNEST, Hopewell. He was predeceased by a daughter, LAURENIA. Interment will be in Auburn cemetery.
UNKNOWN PAPER - FEBRUARY 1926 ANNIE MCKAY at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H.B. COCK, South Tatamagouche, on February 9, of paralysis, there passed to the Great Beyond. Mrs. Annie McKAY having outlived the allotted span of "three score years and ten" by five years. During the past three years she has suffered as a paralytic, but the last and final stroke came three weeks previous to her death. Thru all of her sickness she was a most patient sufferer. She was a consistent member of the New Annan Presbyterian Church, a life member of the W.F.M.S. of that place, a loving mother and member of their household, a kind and sympathetic neighbor, and as such as she will be missed from among us. He husband, the late Hugh McKAY, predeceased her by ten years, and their only son, John, was accidentally killed in a Western Mine, eleven years ago. Besides her daughter, Mrs. B.H. COCK, and a grand daughter Helen C. COCK, of South Tatamagouche there are left two sisters, of Dakota, U.S.A. Jane of The Falls, N.S. one brother, John of Balmoral, N.S. and another grand daughter Jean McKAY of Tony River, Pictou Co. N.S. The funeral services were held from the house Feb. 11th and were conducted by Rev. A.T. MacDONALD, who knowing the Christian convictions and steadfastness of faith of the deceased chose for his text Romans 8: 38, 39. "For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor power, no things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." The choir sang the selections "The Lord is my Shepherd", "Meet me There" "In the Sweet Bye and Bye". Interment was at The Falls cemetery.
Hazen Hubley 1965 Bridgewater Bulletin Hazen Hubley, of 54 Raglan Avenue, Toronto, died suddenly in hospital on Wednesday, July 7th., following a heart attack. Mr. Hubley, who was fifty-four years of age, was born at New Germany, son of the late Joshua and Adelia (Lohnes) Hubley and had resided there until two months ago. Surviving are his wife, the former Edna Selig; and two sons, Doran and Wayne, of Toronto; two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Ritcey of Bridgewater; and Mrs. Mae Cook of Cambridge, Mass.; and one brother, Perry, of Toronto. He was a member of St. John's Anglican Church, New Germany where funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon with the Rev. F. Doherty officiating. Pall bearers were Crosfield Bell, Arleigh Varner, Bruce Woodworth, Kerry Whynot, Blake and Chester Robar. Interment took place in Lakeside Cemetery.

She was a modest unassuming lady and her many friends were saddened by her death. She leaves two sisters, Mrs. E.B. Hyson, Mahone Bay; Mrs. C.P. Beardsley, Bridgewater; and one brother, James Uniacke Cook, Cookville.

Ray James Demond 1963 Bridgewater Bulletin Ray James Demond passed away on Monday morning, April 8th., at his home in Upper Cornwall after a period of four weeks spent in bed, where he was tenderly cared for by his wife, daughter, Margaret, and son-in-law, John. The late Mr. Demond suffered a heart attack two and a half years ago and had been in failing health ever since. Born at Upper Cornwall, 71 years ago, he was the son of the late George and Lavenia (Penney) Demond. He was a veteran of World War I, going overseas in 1916, and marched into Germany after the signing of the Armistice. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 49, Mahone Bay, and was fishery guardian for a number of years, and also took an active part in community affairs. Surviving are his wife, the former Vera Tobin; a daughter, (Margaret) Mrs. John Wentzell, of New Germany; son, Cedric, of Camp Petawawa, Ontario; one sister, Mary (Mrs. Reginald MacKay), of Upper Northfield; three brothers, Stuart of River Hebert; Thomas of Livermore Falls; Guy of Upper Cornwall. He was predeceased by two sons, Bernard, killed in a car accident in 1940; Theodore passed away, results of a car accident in 1949; and by three sisters. Funeral services were held from St. Paul's Anglican Church, Union Square, Thursday, at 2 p.m., April 11th., conducted by Rev. F.W. Thirkell. Hymns sung were favourites of the deceased, "Nearer, My God, to Thee" and "Abide With Me." Pall bearers were four nephews, Percy, Ray, and Stuart Joudrey, William Demond; son-in-law, John Wentzell; brother-in-law, Percy Hupman. Interment was in the Union Square Cemetery.

LAURA BLANCHE CLYBURN, wife of ONSLOW CLYBURN, died at the Campbell Nursing Home, Poole Ave., where she had been a guest for the last two years. Born at Goldboro 78 years ago she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. WILLIAM MYERS and was a member of the Goldboro Baptist Church. Surviving besides her husband, are two daughters, LETTIE (Mrs. Chester Langley), Isaac's Harbour; STELLA (Mrs. Churchill Fenton), Country Harbour; five sons, LEONARD and BORDEN in Isaac's Harbour, DANIEL and ARTHUR in Stellarton; NORMAN in Uranium City, Sask; 24 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Also surviving are two half-brothers, PERCY MYERS, Annapolis Valley, and AUBREY MYERS in Stellarton. The remains will rest at the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home after 7 this evening and will be transferred to Isaac's Harbour tomorrow. The funeral service will be announced later.
UNKNOWN PAPER - 1926 JAMES SUTHERLAND age 60. This community was shocked and saddened when the news of the death came of Mr. James SUTHERLAND, River John R., last Thursday morning. Mr. SUTHERLAND suffered an attack of "Flu" followed by a relapse which developed into Sleeping sickness thereby causing his death. He was a man of sterling character and highly respected by all who knew him. Much sympathy is expended to the bereaved family in their great loss. The Oddfellows took charge of the funeral held on Saturday at his late home, where a very large number gathered to show their last respect to the deceased The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Mr. BRENTON and Mr. SCHOFIELD of the Presbyterian church took charge of the service. Mr. and Mrs. Dannie SUTHERLAND came home from Boston to attend the funeral the former arriving a few days previous to his father's death.
William Lloyd Wagner 1987 Bridgewater Bulletin William Lloyd Wagner, 89, of Livermore Falls, died February 4, 1987, at Franklin Memorial Hospital. Born at Union Square, May 14, 1897, the son of Titus and Nettie (MacKay) Wagner, he was educated in Union Square, and was a veteran of World War I, having served in the Canadian Army. He married Beulah Ramey of Newburne in June, 1920 and they moved to Livermore Falls in 1922. Mr. Wagner retired in 1962 after working 40 years in the repair department of the International Paper Company, where he was also a millwrigth and head carpenter. He was a member of the 25 year Club at International Paper, Knights of Pythias, and Eaton Memorial United Methodist Church of Livermore Falls. Surviviors include his wife of 67 years, Beulah of Livermore Falls; a daughter, Mrs. Myra Bailey of Livermore Falls; four sons, Robie, Clayton, and Russell, all of Livermore Falls; and Maurice of Lewiston; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Veinot of Union Square; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. He was predeceased by two sisters and one brother; Mrs. Lila Ramey, Barss Corner; Mrs. Lena Rhodenizer, Livermore Falls; and Loris of Kentville.

Olivia Florence Himmelman 1977 Bridgewater Bulletin Mrs. Olivia Florence Himmelman, 80, wife of the late John D. Himmelman, Crousetown, passed away October 13, 1977, at the Dawson Memorial Hospital, Bridgewater. Born at New Cumberland, she was the former Olivia Florence Wamback, daughter of the late Nathaniel and Salome (Corkum) Wamback. She was a member of St. Andrew's United Church, Crousetown, and a member of the Women's Group of St. Andrew's. She served as postmistress for 44 years in the Crousetown area and owned and operated a grocery store for more than 50 years in Crousetown. Surviving are a daughter, Dorothy, Dayspring; two sons, Lester and Gerald, both of Crousetown; a step-daughter, Violet (Mrs. Gilbert Clattenburg), Kingston; two sisters, Mrs. Violet Floyd, Montreal; Mrs. Evangeline Meisner, Lake Centre; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband; an infant daughter, Marguerite; a son, Ernest; a brother, Starratt; and a sister, Mary. The funeral service was held from St. Andrew's United Church, Crousetown on Saturday October 15, at 2 p.m. Rev. Marilyn Carter officiated. Hymns sung were "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "By Cool Salome." Organist was Mrs. Margaret Crouse. Pallbearers were Owen Ramey, Graham Rains, Donald Bolivar, Brian Kaulback, David Ramey, and Richard Crouse.

He was born in England 71 years ago, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. JOHN HALLEM. He was a veteran of the First World War and had not been enjoying good health for some time. He is survived by his widow, the former SUSAN FOLEY; one daughter, LILLIAN (Mrs. Joseph Nickerson), Stellarton; and two sons, ERNEST and WILFRED, in Westville; also several grandchildren.
UNKNOWN PAPER - 27 APRIL 1942 JOHN J. MCLANDERS - The community of Brule mourns the loss of an esteemed and highly respected citizen in the passing of John J. McLANDERS, whose death took place Wednesday afternoon, April 22. He was the second son of the late James D. McLANDERS and Margaret MILLER, and was 58 years of age. He spent a number of years in the Canadian West where he followed his trade as a carpenter, and also in Montreal. He returned home on the death of his father, to carry on the work of farming. Mr. McLANDERS' passing is deeply mourned by his wife (Janet McKAY) and five children: Jean, Margaret, George, Stanley and James, who in early life are thus bereft of a kind and indulgent father. One sister, Mrs. Bessie ROBIN, of Ontario, and two brothers, James of Pictou and Truman of Montreal also survive to mourn their loss. The funeral service was held in Brule Union Church Sunday, April 26, at 2 p.m. Rev. Mr. BRYAN, Presbyterian minister of River John, conducted the service. Interment was in Brule Corner Cemetery. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to Mrs. McLANDERS and her children in this hour of bereavement.
Miss Augusta Young 1893 Lunenburg Progress Town and County News Published: November 29 ,1893. Miss Augusta Young of Indian Point strayed from her home on Friday last. After dilligent searching she was found dead on Sunday about half a mile from her home. Deceased was 40 years of age and insane.
Mrs. Margaret Bush 1943 The death occurred early Sunday morning, July 25th., of Mrs. Margaret Bush, after an illness of over two years, being confined to her bed most of that period. She was 70 years old. Mrs. Bush was twice married. Her first husband was Lameck Bushen, who was lost at sea. Of this union survives a daughter, Vera (Mrs. Edgar Publicover). Her second husband was Albert Bush, who passed away several years ago. There were eight children, six of whom are living: Victor, Pentz; Carl of West Dublin; Austin in the United States; Winfred, serving in the navy; two daughters, Grace, Mrs. Lester Richard, of the United States; and Winnie (Mrs. Reginald LeGay), who cared for her mother all through her illness. The funeral was held on Monday afternoon from the Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev. D.W. MacDonald and interment at Brookside Cemetery. There were many beautiful flowers.
Isaiah Shankle 1943 The death occurred at Middle LaHave early Wednessday morning, July 28, of Isaiah Shankle, after an illness of nearly ten months, being confined to his room all that time. Mr. Shankle was 84 years and eight months old. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. The funeral was conducted by Rev. W.J. Goos of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. Interment was made in Middle LaHave Cemetery. Surviving are his wife and three sons, St.Clair and Harris, both living in the United States; LeRoy, of Middle LaHave; an only daughter, Avie, of Middle LaHave; one sister, Andesire, of Haverhill, Mass.; three brothers, Wilbert, of Middle LaHave; Sidney, of Worcester, Mass; and Steadman, of Haverhill. Also surviving are four grandchildren.
