    3. Mrs. Leo W. Silver 1958 Bridgewater Bulletin Mrs. Leo W. Silver passed away at the Dawson Memorial Hospital, Bridgewater, May 12th, after a short illness. Mrs. Silver, the former Helen Z. Turner was 63 years of age. Born at Midville Branch, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John L. Turner. She moved with her parents as a small child to West Northfield where she has resided for a number of years. She is survived by her husband; a sister, Goldie (Mrs. Earl Murphhy),of Wolfville; and a brother, Arnold Turner, of West Northfield. Many relatives and friends mourn her passing. The funeral ws held on Wednesday, May 14th, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church at West Northfield with Rev. Donald Himmelman officiating. Pall bearers were James Bruhm, Robert Bruhm, Earl Crouse, and Lester Bruhm. Interment was at the Maple Grove Cemetery, West Northfield.

Born at West Northfield, he was a son of the late Leonard and Esther (Crouse) Silver. He was a retired section man with CNR. He is survived by a brother, Edgar, Hammonds Plains; three sisters, Leda, New Germnay; Hope (Mrs. Earl Green), Liverpool; and Grace, New Brunswick. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Helen Turner; two sisters, Gladys and Wilma; a brother, Reginald. The body is in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, West Northfield, Rev. William Gustafson officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any charity.

Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late DANIEL and MARGARET (Lowe) TUPPER. He lived on Westville Road most of his life before moving to Munroe Ave. Ext., a few years ago. He was a millwright with Hawker-Siddeley Canada Ltd., Trenton Car Works until retiring. He was active in the Pictou East Progressive Conservative Association and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow. Surviving besides his wife, the former HAZEL HARTLING, are a daughter, MURIEL, Dartmouth; and a sister, MRS. ISABEL MacDONALD, Westville Road. He was predeceased by two brothers, JOHN and WESLEY, and two sisters, SARAH and HELEN. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery, New Glasgow.

    3. UNKNOWN PAPER - MAY 1977 FRED D. HAMILTON, 81, of Tatamagouche, died Friday, May 13th, at home. Born in East New Annan, he was the son of the late Woodbury and Emma (NELSON) HAMILTON. He lived most of his life in Truro, where he was an elder of Brunswick Street United Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for more than 40 years, a member of the Curling Club, a veteran of the First World War and was retired from Texaco Oil Company for 17 years. Surviving are his wife, the former Florence HAYMAN; a son, Donald, Tatamagouche; a daughter, Arlene (Mrs. Ray FRANCIS), Bathurst, N.B.; three brothers, Rev. Dr. G.N. HAMILTON, Windsor; Sidney, Onslow; Leslie, Laconia, N.H.; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former may BLAIR, two brothers and a sister. Funeral service was held Monday at 2 p.m. in Sharon United Church, Rev. Darrell METZLER officiating, assisted by Rev. Morley BENTLEY. Burial was in Tatamagouche Mountain cemetery.

    3. Mrs. Madelyn Marie Zinck 1977 Bridgewater Bulletin Mrs. Madelyn Marie Zinck, widow of Harding A. Zinck, 61, of Barss Corner, died Wednesday, December 14, at her home in Barss Corner. Born at Elmwood, she was the former Madelyn Marie, daughter of Mrs. Meady MacDonald, Lunenburg. She was a member of New Germany , Branch 102, Ladies Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion. She was predeceased by her foster parents, George and Jean Zinck, Elmwood; husband, Harding; and one son, Seldon. Surviving besides her mother are four daughters, Mrs. Irene Zinck, First South; Mrs. Sadie Bolivar, Dayspring; Mary (Mrs. Lawrence Johnstone), Waterville; Evelyn (Mrs. Carmen Silver), Union Square; two sons, Lester, Cole's Island, Nova Scotia; Chester, Upper Cornwall; four half-brothers, Clifford, Willis, and Douglas Rafuse, all of Bridgewater; and Berrell of Styner, Ontario; 34 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The remains rested at Langille's Funeral Home, New Germany. Funeral service was held at the Anglican Church, Union Square at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 16. Burial was held at the Union Square Cemetery.

    3. Harding Artemas Zinck 1966 Bridgewater Bulletin The death of Harding Artemas Zinck occurred at his home on the morning of June 27. Although he had been in failing health for several years, his sudden death came as a shock to relatives and friends. Mr. Zinck was 67 years of age, born at Walden and the son of the late Artemas andd May (Dorey) Zinck. He served overseas in World War I with the West Nova Scotia Regiment, at the beginning of the Second World War, and later in the Veterans Guard of Canada until the end of the war. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 102, New Germany and a member of the Anglican Church, Union Square. Surviving are his wife, Madelyn; two sons, Lester with the Royal Canadian Dragoons, Camp Gagetown, New Brunswick; and Chester, Newmarket, Ontario; three daughters, Sadie (Mrs. Frank Bollivar), Baker's Settlement; Mary (Mrs. Laurence Johnstone), Waterville; Evelyn (Mrs. Carman Silver), Union Square; and a number of grandchildren. One son predeceased him thirty years ago. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Leuetta Young, Lunenburg; Mrs. Mary (Spurgeon) Crossland, Mahone Bay; Mrs. Ida Dorey, Ottawa; and one brother, Maurice, Dayspring. The funeral service was held at the Anglican Church, Union Square, on June 29th, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. J. Purchase as officiating clergyman. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 102, New Germany, attended and they conducted the graveside service. Interment was in the Union Square Cemetery. Pall bearers were Legion members, Comrades Robert Emino, John Mader, John O. Russell, and Keith Mailman.

She had been sick but a short time and all that loving parents and kind friends and doctors could do for her was of no avail. She was of a kind and lovable disposition and will be greatly missed.

    3. Sydney L. Gidney 1976 Bridgewater Bulletin Sydney L. Gidney passed away at D.M. Hospital, Bridgewater, August 6, 1976. Born at Mink Cove, Digby County, May 11, 1898, he was the son of Edwin A. and Margaret (Lent) Gidney. He is survived by his wife, the former Veva Bruce; one son, James C. Gidney; daughters, Genevieve (Mrs. Harris Turner), West Northfield; and Sidney (Mrs. Maxwell Hicks), Ottawa; nine grandchildren; a brother, Donald, Lake Worth, Florida; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, a daughter, and three brothers. The body rested at Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service was held in St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, West Northfield at 2 p.m., August 8, 1976. Rev. Ralph Keith officiated, assisted by the Rev. Richard Gidney, grand nephew of the deceased, from Regina, Saskatchewan. Mr. Gidney, an honourary Legion member, served with the C.E.F. in the First World War. The Legion service was conducted by his comrades and Legion members of Branch 24, Bridgewater; led by the president of the Legion, Elmer Conrad; Colour Party was Debney Oickle, Leon whynot, and Otto Feener; bugler was Donald Gow; pall bearers were Lester Veinotte, Lincoln Lohnes, Perry Veinot, and Lorraine Aulenback. Interment was at Maple Grove Cemetery, West Northfield. Floral tributes were beautifully arrayed. Donations were made to the Veterans' Comfort Fund, Camp Hill Hospital, the D.M. Reasearch, and St. Andrew's Lutheran Church. A memorial service was held in the Church of the Navitity, Sandy Cove, Digby County, where Mr. Gidney lived for many years, by Rev. Richard Gidney on August 8, 1976 at 9:30 a.m. for Mr. Gidney.

Veinotte Killed in action By the enemy barrage 1918 Bridgewater Bulletin: A memorial service in honour of Private Owen Arenburg who was killed in the battle of Vimy Ridge was held in the church at West Northfield on Sunday afternoon. Revs. Martell of Bridgewater and Nonamaker, of Wentzel's Lake, conducted the services. Owen Freeman Arenburg was the son of McKiar John and Alice Victoria (Nowe) Arenburg. He was born November 2, 1891 and died May 4, 1917. Everett Nathaniel Wentzell was the son of William Bamford and Caroline Hannah Janette (Ramey) Wentzell. He was born January 18, 1897 and died November 16, 1917. Memorial Service for Private Avery Veinot 1918 Bridgewater Bulletin A memorial service in honour of Private Avery P. Veinot, killed in action on February 5th., in France, will be held in the Union Church West Northfield on the third Sunday afternoon, June 16, at 2:30. The service will be conducted by his pastor, Rev. E.V. Nonamaker. Avery Pearlie Veinot was the adopted son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Veinot of West Northfield. He enlisted in the 112th. Battalion in the winter of 1915. During a trench bombardment by the enemy he, together with three of his companions, was instantly killed by a heavy trench mortar shell on February 5,1918 and was buried February 6th., by Captain E.E. Pugsley, Canadian Methodist chaplain. Avery Pearlie Veinotte was the adopted son of Albert Cornelius and Lottie Catherine (Knox) Veinotte. He was born October 25, 1898 and died February 6, 1918. Surviving are his wife, the former ESTER CAMERON; a daughter, JANIE (Mrs. Edward Walton),Hamilton, Ont; two sons, JOHN, Toronto; LEO, Cole Harbour; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former DOROTHY DORRINGTON, and two brothers, EDWARD and WILLIAM. Interment will be in Mount William cemetery.

He was a member of St. Paul and St. Stephen United and was past noble grand of IOOF Hiawatha Lodge and past captain of the Canton. He was past chief patriarch of Basil Encampment and treasurer of Hiawatha Lodge and color bearer of Canton Halifax No. 1 Lodge. He was a member of St. Eulalie Rebekah Lodge and a life member of St. Ninias Masonic Lodge 66. He was a veteran of The Second World War serving in the Canadian Forester Corps and was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Kings Branch 6. Surviving besides his wife, the former Mary DRUMMON, are: a daughter, Elizabeth, at home; three sons, Angus, Sackville; Ian, Hull, Que.; Allan, Dartmouth; two brothers, Charles, Tatamagouche; Walter, Wallace. He was predeceased by a son and a sister. The body is in the W.C. Hiltz Funeral Home, where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Rev. Ian MacDONALD officiating.     3. Acel Frank Himmelman 1988 Acel Frank Himmelman, 75, of Lower LaHave, died suddenly at home, February 28, 1988. Born at LaHave Islands, he was the son of the late James Norman and Georgina (Baker) Himmelman. He was a fisherman for the greater part of his life. Prior to his retirement he was employed as watchman with Riverport Seafoods. He was an active member of Trinity United Church, Rose Bay, and a member of Confidence Lodge # 106, Riverport. He is survived by his wife, the former Helen Romkey; a sister, Goldie (Mrs. Pearlie Rhodenizer), Pleasantville; a brother, Clyde, LaHave Islands. He was predeceased by two brothers, Laurie, Beach Meadows; Herman, Lower laHave; and one sister, Freda (Mrs. Kenneth Spindler), Lower LaHave. The body rested at Sweeny's Funeral Home, Lunenburg. A memorial service was held by members of Confidence Lodge # 106, prior to the church service. Funeral service was held from Trinity United Church, Rose Bay, Wednesday, March 2, 1988, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Harry Whitehorne officiating. Organist was Mr. Goodwin Zinck. Hymns sung by the choir were "What A Friend we Have in Jesus," "Jesus, Saviour, Pilot me," and "Lead, Kindly Light." Interment was in Shepherd's Hill Cemetery, Riverport. Pallbearers were Amos Crouse, Douglas Crouse, Warren Slauenwhite, Michael Ritcey, Dale Boutilier, and Dexter Herritt.

    3. Alice G. Demond 1978 Bridgewater Bulletin Alice G. Demond passed away at the Fishermen's Memorial Hospital on May 23, at the age of 74. She had been in failing health for a number of years. She was born at Apple River, Cumberland County, on April 20, 1904, the daughter of the late James and Maude Cuthbertson. She moved to Upper Cornwall as the wife of the late Guy Demond where she resided until June 1, 1977 when she became a patient at the Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay. She is survived by four sons, John, Brandon, Manitoba; Sidney, Winnipeg; William and Rodger, Upper Cornwall; and a daughter, Susie (Mrs. Ronnie Grimm Jr.), Parkdale; also one stepson, George, Upper Cornwall; and a stepdaughter, Mary Illingworth, Simpson's Cornerl;24 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Annie Silver, Scarborough, Maine. She was predeceased by her husband, a sister, and three infant sons. Her body rested at Langille's Funeral Home, New Germany. The well attended funeral was held on Friday, May 26, at 2 p.m. from Langille's Funeral Home with the service conducted by Rev. Eric Miner who spoke very comforting words to those who mourned. Organist was Rev. William Chard. Hymns rendered included her favourites,"The Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages." Interment was in the family plot at the Union Square Cemetery. Pallbearers were her five nephews, Stuart Joudrey, Ray Joudrey, Andrew Wentzell, William Silver, Russell Wile and a close friend, Frank Fancy.

    3. Guy M. Demond 1966 Bridgewater Bulletin Funeral service for the late Guy Milton Demond of Upper New Cornwall was held April 6th., 1966, at the United Church of New Cornwall. Rev. Eric Miner officiated. The choir and congregation combined in singing the hymns,"Rock of Ages" and "Blest Be the Tie that Binds." Mr. James Silver accompanied them by playing the organ. Six members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 102, New Germany, were pall bearers. They were Milton Varner, George DeLong, John Mader, Robert Emino, Clifton Sleep, and Oswald Russell. All Legion members attending conducted a short service at the graveside. Mr. Demond is survived by his wife, the former Alice Cuthbertson of Apple River; one daughter, Susie (Mrs. Ronnie Grimm), New Cornwall; four sons, Sgt. John M, Gnr. Sidney G., both of Winnipeg; William and Rodger, of Cornwall. A daughter and son by a previous marriage, Mrs. Mary Illingworth, Mass.; and George of Upper New Cornwall; one sister, Mary (Mrs. Reginald MacKay), Upper Northfield; two brothers, Stuart of River Hebert; and Thomas, Livermore Falls, also survive. Interment was at Union Square Cemetery.

Born in Digby, she was a daughter of the late WILLIAM and MAUDE (Hamilton) SULIS. Surviving are four daughters, JEAN, New Glasgow; MARION (Mrs. H.T. McQuade), Toronto; JOYCE (Mrs. F. Jewers), Dartmouth; GLADYS (Mrs. H. Newkirk), Little Harbour; two sons, JAMES, Windsor; SAM, Newmarket, Ont; 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, GLADYS and MYRTLE (Mrs. W. McLean) both of Digby; DAISY (Mrs. Charles Myers), Saint John, NB; MILDRED (Mrs. F.A. Mansfield) Florida; two brothers, EDWIN, Digby; ROY, British Columbia. She was predeceased by her husband JAMES.The remains are resting in Robert L. Hall Funeral Home, Granville Ferry, where funeral will be held. Interment will be in Woodlawn cemetery.

    3. UNKNOWN PAPER - 12 AUGUST 1952 MAJOR HAROLD LEROY CASSIDY - Tatamagouche - Major Harold Leroy CASSIDY, proprietor of Tatamagouche Inn died suddenly Saturday evening. He was the son of Robert Victor Cassidy and Alice (Barnes) Cassidy. Following fine service in the First World War, Major CASSIDY settled in New Glasgow where he was associated with R. MacGregor & Sons. Later he went for them to Halifax and during the Second World War he served in civilian capacity in Newfoundland. It was after that he purchased Tatamagouche Inn and settled there in his hometown where he took an active part in Board of Trade work and in promoting the general interests of the Sunrise Trail district. He was on several delegations pressing for paving at Halifax. He is survived by his widow, the former Grace MacINNES of Halifax; and two sons, Robert in Korea and Ronald with TCA in Halifax. He is also survived by three sisters, among them Mrs. J.E. MacDONALD of River John. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock in Tatamagouche. The Canadian Legion will have charge.

Zenas Mossman 1943 Kingsburg, July 13- One of the oldest and most highly respected residents of this place, Zenas Mossman, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Risser, early Sunday morning, at the age of 88 years. Mr. Mossman was the only surviving member of a family of five born to Mr. and Mrs. David Mossman of Upper Kingsburg. He lived his entire life in that village by the sea from which he gained his livelihood as a fisherman in his early years. Later he worked his farm. Mr. Mossman was of a kind and genial disposition, loved, and respected by all who knew him, a devout member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Rose Bay, covering the distance of three miles on foot to attend Sunday worship. The past few years, when health was failing, he resided with his only remaining daughter and son-in-law, Captain and Mrs. Frank Risser, where he was tenderly cared for during his recent illness. His wife, formerly Miss. E. Mossman, of Kingsburg, died a year ago. There survives, beside a daughter, four grandchildren. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the home of Captain and Mrs. Risser. Rev. J.A. Grant of the Presbyterian Church, conducted the service, assisted by Rev. W.K.Pace of Trinity United Church. Interment was in the family plot at Kingsburg Cemetery.

Reginald Charles Naugler 1943 On Sunday afternoon, May 13, at 2:30 o'clock, a memorial service was held at St. Matthew's Anglican Church, Upper LaHave, for Reginald Charles Naugler, who was lost at sea October 29, 1942, when his ship was sunk by enemy action. The church was crowded with friends and relatives of the deceased who gathered to pay a tribute of respect to the memory of one who was so well-known to them. The service was conducted by Rev. R. Copeland, who spoke in an appropriate and consoling manner to the bereaved ones. After the hymn,"Safe in the Arms of Jesus," a lovely tablet of white marble was placed in the church by the deceased's mother in memory of her kind and faithful son, and was unveiled by his cousin, Dalton Randall. The tablet bore the following inscription: "In loving memory of Reginald C. Naugler, son of Melbourne and Etta Naugler, age 25 years, a member of the Merchant Navy who lost his life October 29, 1942, through the torpedoing of "S.S. Bic Island," on passage to Scotland." "The memory of one we cherish Is ours unchanged forever." The floral offerings were taken from the church and put on the graves of the deceased relatives.

    3. Minnie Wagner 1910 Lunenburg Progress Published: June 8, 1910. Minnie, the wife of Obediah Wagner of Rudolf's Corner, dropped dead on Sunday while on her way to church. She was stricken with a stroke of paralysis. Mrs. Wagner was in her 51st. year and leaves a husband and one son to mourn their loss. The son only left home last Wednesday on a fishing trip. Funeral director Durling of Bridgewater conducted the funeral which took place yesterday afternoon.
