    3. Max R. Wentzell 1947 Bridgewater Bulletin Upper Branch- This community was saddened on December 28 last, when news was received of the passing of Max Wentzell, at the D.M. Hospital. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wentzell and was born May 11th, 1919. Although seriously ill for several weeks, hopes were held for his recovery until within a few days of his death. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in Holland, Belgium, France, and Germany. He had been seriously wounded and spent considerable time in hospital in England. On October 16, 1947, he was married to Miss Verna Meisner, of West Northfield. He is survived y his bride, his parents, five brothers, and one sister. The brothers are Earl of Branch LaHave; Ronald of West Northfield; Rex, Mark, and Glen, at home and sister, Rita, at home. The funeral sermon was conducted by the Rev. W.G. Minke in the church at West Northfield. In his sermon, Rev. Minke dwelt on the story of the son of the widow of Nain, Luke 7. Hymns sung were "Nearer, My God, to Thee," "Peace, Perfect Peace," and "Asleep in Jesus." >From the church the funeral procession proceeded to Upper Branch. The flag-draped casket was borne by four veterans and laid to rest in the family lot in Upper Branch Cemetery. Pall bearers were James Bruhm, Rex Bruhm, Frank Meldrum, and Lester Veinot.

    3. Burleigh Leland Arenburg 1968 Bridgewater Bulletin There occurred on Thursday, May 2nd, 1968, the passing of Burleigh Leland Arenburg, at the Dawson Memorial Hospital, after a short illness. He was born at New Canada in 1908 and lived there his entire life. He was the son of Robert Arenburg and the late Eva Leona (Wagner) Arenburg. Surviving besides his father and step-mother of Bridgewater, are a sister, Mabel (Mrs. Lloyd Joudrey), Bridgewater; and seven brothers, Raymond, Farmington; Arnold of Bridgewater; Owen, Simpson's Corner; Bazil, Branch LaHave; Ronald, Bridgewater; Harold, New Germany; and Randolph, who had always resided with him but is presently teaching school at Fort McMurray in Alberta. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. He had worked with the Mersey and Bowaters Mersey Paper Company practically all his working life. The funeral service was held at the Baptist Church in New Canada on Sunday, May 5th, at 4 p.m., with Licentiate Douglas Crouse officiating. Mrs. Harris Cook played the organ. The choir, composed of community friends, sang the hymns,"The Old Rugged Cross" and "Good Night and Good Morning." The pall bearers were Farish MacKay, Earle MacKay, Donald Morton, Maurice Wagner, Clifton Crouse and Russell Jodrey. Interment was in the Lakeside Cemetery at New Canada in his Grandparents Wagner's lot. For the funeral the church was filled to overflowing with sorrowing relatives and friends who came to pay their last respects and the many beautiful floral tributes and in memoriams bore silent testimony of esteem.

    3. Mrs. Robert Arenburg 1929 Bridgewater Bulletin New Canada News The community was saddened on Wednesday by the death of Mrs. Robert Arenburg after a very brief illness. The deceased was thirty-six years of age and leaves to mournt heir loss, a sorrowing husband; eight sons and a daughter; also her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Wagner. She was laid to rest on Friday, January 18th, beside her infant daughter. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. McRae of New Germany. Much sympathy is extended to the bereaved family.

    3. Robert P. Arenburg 1976 Bridgewater Bulletin Robert P. Arenburg of Bridgewater, passed away on Monday Decmeber 13, at Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay. Born at Midville Branch in 1888, he was a son of the late Obediah and Louisa (Oickle) Arenburg. He was an employee of Bowater Mersey Paper company for more than twenty years and served as woods foreman until retirement in 1953. He is survived by a daughter, Mabel (Mrs. Lloyd Jodrey), of New Canada; seven sons, Raymond of Farmington; Arnold of Bridgewater; Owen, Simpson's Corner; Basil, Branch LaHave; Ronald, New Canada; Harold, New Germany; Randolph of Alberta; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Eva Leona Wagner; two sons and a daughter; and his second wife, the former Princetta Awalt. Funeral service was held from Wamback's Memorial Chapel, Bridgewater on Wednesday afternoon, December 15, and was conducted by Rev. W.L. Myra. Pallbearers were four of Mr. Arenburg's sons, Arnold, Basil, Ronald, and Harold. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery in New Canada.

Born at Bridgewater, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Mildred (Arenburg) Wentzell. She is survived by brothers, Mylon (Rose), Oshawa; Hector (Kimberley Jarvis), Midville Branch; sister, Mercedes (Roy) Veinot, Stayner, Ontario; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Lindsay, in infancy. Visitation will be held Friday, August 20, from 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater, and from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 21, Rev. Willis Ott officiating. Burial will follow in Midville Branch Cemetery. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rosedale Home for Special Care, Van Fund, or the charity of your choice.

    3. Mrs. William Whynot 1976 Bridgewater Bulletin Mrs. Mabel G. Whynot, 68, of Branch LaHave, passed away at the D.M. Hospital on Monday evening, December 27, 1976. Born at Branch LaHave, she was the former Mabel Grace Crouse, daughter of the late Walter and Jennie Crouse. Surviivng are her husband, William; one daughter, Goldie, Mrs. Ralph Snyder; two sons, Leland and Ira, at Branch LaHave; nine grandchildren and two great-grandsons. Funeral service was held from St. James Lutheran Church in Branch LaHave at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 30, 1976. Pastor Keith officiated. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery in Branch LaHave. Pallbearers were Max Oickle, Cecil Knox, Delmer Conrad, and Fred Veinot.

OBIT # 5500 - EASTERN CHRONICLE - 13 JANUARY 1942 THORBURN - WILLIAM "Billy" BENNETT, 38 year old Vale native and a favorite in the Thorburn district, died Saturday, believed to be the results of the accident when a truckload of Thorburn men returning from work in Trenton, plunged into Smelt Brook. Mr. Bennett at that time suffered a wound over the eye requiring 12 stitches. Although he had apparently recovered he had lately suffered from pains in the head above the wound and dizzy spells from last Tuesday. Sitting in his home listening to the hockey game, he suddently dropped out of his chair and had passed away when the doctor arrived. He had been to work as usual on Saturday. Mr. Bennett, a single man, had kept a barber shop in Thorburn for many years and was well known throughout the Thorburn area. A past master of Hudson Lodge, A.F.&A.M., he took a keen interest in young people and was scoutmaster of Thorburn Boy Scouts at a time when they were the best troup in the county. He is survived by his mother and his father, ROBERT BENNETT, who was also in the accident; by a younger brother, Robert, now overseas, and two sisters, MRS. LEVY, of New Glasgow and MRS. DICKSON, Halifax. The sisters were at home at the time he passed away. The funeral is to be held this afternoon at 2pm from the Presbyterian Church with Hudson Lodge taking part in the service. The accident in which the truck skidded over the bank happened last November and claimed the life of ALDEN FORSYTHE. Thirty-eight men were in the truck but at the time only two others were thought to be badly injured. Both are recovering, DENNIS REID, whose ribs were broken, has been able to leave the hospital and go home, but DAN LOVE is still in Aberdeen where he is being treated for a scalp wound and chest injuries. Others have not been able to return to work yet.

Born in Leicester, Cumberland County, he was a son of Mrs. Florence (CARTER) TOOLE, Bible Hill, and the late Percy TOOLE. He was a millwright, and worked with the Riversdale Lumber Company, Valley, Colchester County. He was a former member of the North River Fire Brigade. He is survived by his wife, the former Isabell Adams; two sons, Elwood, Sussex, N.B. Glendon, at home; a daughter, Arlene (Mrs. Ciro BARTOLACCI), Bedford; seven brothers, Willard, Ross, Albert, Earl and Alton, all of Bible Hill; Hubert, Guysborough; Gordon, Nuttby, Colchester County; three sisters, Sadie (Mrs. Melvin PIERCE), Shelburne; Mrs. Miriam HAZELWOOD, Ont.; Mrs. Dollie FERGUSON, Bible Hill; four grandchildren. The body is in Mattatall's Funeral Home, Truro, where funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Rev. Paul TAYLOR officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Greville McKay Hynick 2009 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Tuesday, July 7, 2009. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Greville McKay Hynick- It is with great sadness that the family of the late Greville McKay Hynick, 66, Blue Rocks, announce his sudden passing on Saturday, July 4, 2009, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born at Blue Rocks, he was a son of the late Blake and Nina (Tanner) Hynick. Greville started his working career with Kenneth Crouse's Store, Lunenburg and then went to sea as a scallop fisherman. He later went to work with National Sea Products for 29 years, retiring in 1993. Greville was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed the simple pleasures of hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time camping with friends and playing the guitar. He was a friend to many and will be deeply missed by all those who knew him. He is survived by his wife, the former Doreen (Lowe) Hynick; sisters, Sheila (Harold) Mossman, East LaHave; Diane (Kenneth) Zinck, Oakhill; Lorine (Norman) Shott, Fredericton; Judy (Robert) Ernst, Mahone Bay; Betty (William) Hillier, Blue Rocks; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Jeanette; brothers, Reginald, Richard, Leon, Paul, and an infant brother, Blake Ellsworth. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg, where a serive to celebrate Greville's life will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m., Rev. Robert Zinck officiating. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or to the charity of your choice.

    3. Mrs. Max Feindel 1963 Bridgewater Bulletin Handwritten date: March 8, 1963. A gloom was cast over the community and surrounding ddistricts when L.M. Feindel received the sad news that Evelyn, his beloved wife had passed away at the V.G. Hospital, Halifax. She had been hospitalized since Christmas, being home only once since then. She had been in failing health for the past six years. Her family and loved ones had hoped for a recovery but medical aid and loving care were to no avail.She passed away on Friday, March 8th, leaving a broken home. Born at Watford, she was the daughter of the late Mr. Thomas and Lalia Morton Bell. She was 42 years of age. During the war years while her husband was overseas she lived with her eldest son, then a little boy in Halifax, with her sister, Mrs. Douglas Laidlaw. The remainder of her life was spent in New Germany where her husband conducted a meat and grocery business and where she endeared herself to all who knew her. She was a faithful member of the United Church Women's Group and was always ready to help with a good cause. The funeral service, which was held on Sunday afternoon, was largely attended and was held at the United Church of which she was a devout member. The service was conducted by the pastor, Rev. P.S. MacDonald who spoke comforting words to the family and friends. Hymns sung were "The Lord's My Shepherd" and "Forever With the Lord." Interment was in the New Community Cemetery. Surviving to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother are her husband and three sons, Linwood with the Civil Service Department, Halifax; Tommy and Neil, at home. Also to mourn her loss are a sister, Doris (Mrs. Douglas Laidlaw), somewhere in Germnay; and a brother, Crossfield Bell of New Germany and other relatives and close friends.

    3. Linwood Maxwell Feindel 1996 Halifax Chronicle Herald Linwood Maxwell (Max) Feindel, 75, New Germany, died November 9, 1996, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born at New Germany, he was a son of the late Harris and Jen (Parnell) Feindel. He was a member of Epworth United Church, New Germany, and a member of the New Germany and Area Men's Choir. He served overseas during the Second World War as a sergeant in Princess Louise Fusiliers. He was a life member, past president, and chaplain of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 102, New Germany. He was a past member of the IOOF and past member of New Germany Volunteer Fire Department. He owned and operated a meat market in New Germany for many years. He later was a car salesman for Rafuse Equipment, until his retirement. Surviving are son, Linwood, New Germany; Thomas, Branch LaHave; six granddaughters; a great-grandson; brothers, Robert, Barss Corner; George, New Germany. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Evelyn Bell; son, Neil. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today in Langille's Funeral Home, New Germany. Funeral and Legion service 11 a.m. Tuesday in Epworth United Church, New Germany, Rev. Wayne Mitton officiating. Burial in Epworth United Cemetery. Donations to Canadian Cancer Society or Epworth United Church, New Germany.

    3. OBIT # 5486 - EASTERN CHRONCILE - 8 January 1942 MRS. NEWTON DRAKE - The news of the sudden death of MRS. NEWTON DRAKE, North Provost St., came as a shock to her many friends in New Glasgow. Mrs. Drake who lived alone in her home was found lying seemingly unconscious on her kitchen floor. On Tuesday morning , MRS.A.S. SMITH, a near neighbour had noticed the lights in the living room of the deceased late in the evening and was worried but later seeing the lights also in the dining room decided everything was all right. Early the next morning however the lights were still on and later the furnace man could not get in. He went away and coming back the second time Mrs. Smith called him to her house and had him call Mrs. Drake's doctor, Dr. Robbins. Finally they managed an entrance to find Mrs. Drake very ill. She was able to say "You got in", became totally unconscious and died in Aberdeen Hospital about six hours later. Mrs. Drake, who was a MISS ANDREWS of Sydney has no nearer relations than cousins living and a cousin Dr. CLARENCE ANDREWS, D.D.S. was notified. Mrs. Drake was a faithful member and worker in St.George's Episcopal Church, and a prominent member of the Welfare Committee of the New Glasgow Council of Women.

    3. UNKNOWN PAPER - 28 MAY 1945 MRS. R.E. MACLEOD - Denmark - It is with deepest regret that we record the death of Mrs. R.E. MacLEOD. On Wednesday evening, May 16, 1945, she passed away at her home, River John, N.S. where she has resided for the past few years. Although not in good health for some months she bore her sufferings with Christian fortitute and resignation to the Divine Will. She was a very kind woman of estimable character and was ever ready to extend a helping hand. Born in Middleton, Col. Co., on September 9, 1889, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John SWAN, she married R.E. MacLEOD of Denmark, N.S. where she resided prior to moving to River John. In her immediate family she is survived by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. J.A. Blanchard, one son Carl, one grandchild, all of River John and two brothers, Kasson and Selden SWAN, Middleton. Following a short service at the home, Sunday, May 20, the remains were taken to Middleton Church where the funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.A. FRASER, of Scotsburn. He recalled loving memories of the deceased and spoke comforting words to the bereaved. The choir led in the singing of "We Cannot Think of Them as Dead", "Sweetly Resting", "The Sweet Bye and Bye". Those officiating as pallbearers were the cousins, Hedley, Alex, Ted and Robbie WILSON, and John and James SWAN, nephews. The casket lay embowered in bloom and a profusion of cut flowers were also included in the beautiful collection which bore silent sympathy. Interment was made in Forest Hill cemetery, Denmark.

    3. Mrs. Lee P. Bibeau Bridgewater Bulletin Mrs. Merna Bibeau, 72, of 415 Pleasant Street, Worcester, died Saturday, September 25, in City Hospital, after a brief illness. She was born at New Germany, a daughter of the late William H. and Cecelia L. (Crandall) Jean, and lived in Worcester 25 years. She served in the Army Nurse Corps during World War I and was a member of the National American Red Cross Nursing Service of Washington, D.C. Mrs. Bibeau was a member of the State Registered Nurses Association; a graduate of Mass. State Infirmary Class of 1916 ,and was once night supervisor at the old Belmont Street Contagious Disease Hospital in Worcester. She was also a member of Post 5, A.L.; the Rebekah Lodge of Odd Fellows, and Chestnut Street Congregational Church. She leaves her husband, Lee P. Bibeau; a son, Howard E. Bibeau of Westboro; three brothers, Walter Jean of Haverhill; Ivan Jean of New York State; James Jean of Bridgetown, Nova Scotia; a sister, Mrs. Olive Varnum, of Southboro; a grandson and several nieces and nephews. Military funeral services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday in Graham Funeral Home, 838 Main street, Rev. John R. Crowe of Chestnut Street Congregational Church officiating. Burial in Hope Cemetery.

Born at Bridgewater, she was a daughter of Melvin Wambolt, Florida and the late Joyce (Langille) Wambolt. A former resident of Abercrombie, she moved to Durham 14 years ago. She was a former employee of Woolco, New Glasgow and Wear Well Garments, Stellarton. Surviving are her husband, Eric; son, Thomas, at home; brothers, Rick, Halifax; Ron, Hilton, Alberta. She was predeceased by a sister, Jean. Cremation has taken place. Burial at a later date. Family will receive visitors 2-4 p.m. Sunday, at their home in Durham.
