She was predeceased by her husband, Bazil; sisters, Grace Clattenburg, Helen Henry; brothers, Donnie, James "Big Jim". Creighton Leroy Fralick 2009 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Tuesday, July 7, 2009. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Creighton Leroy Fralick, 77, Stonehurst, passed away Monday, July 6, 2009, with his daughters by his side in South Shore Regional H, Bridgewater, after a brief illness. Born at Stonehurst, he was a son of the late Guy and Marion (Tanner) Fralick. In his earlier years he had been self-employed as a fish peddlar. He was later employed with National Sea Products as a fishmeal operator for 35 years, retiring at the age of 60. In his retirement, Creighton was more content to go inshore and lobster fishing with his neighbour Daryll Tanner. He enjoyed maintaining his home, playing card games, listening to Newfoundland music, and spending time with friends and family. He was especially proud of the accomplishments of his four grandchildren whom he loved dearly. He is survived by daughters Dianne (John) Mulock,Bridgewater; Debbie (Ronnie) Boyd, Antigonish; grandchildren, Jonathan Mulock, Dartmouth; Heather Mulock(Terri Pitts), Vancouver; Dr. Matthew Boyd (Laura MacLean) Ottawa; Adam Boyd, Antigonish. He was predeceased by his wife, Mildred; sister, Barbara; brother, Leonard. A quiet, fun-loving gentleman, selfless, kind, and considerate of others whose active life was cut far too short. He will be very much missed by all who knew him. The family is especially thankful to Christine Tanner who was a good friend and neighbour to Dad. We are also grateful to Dr. Anthony Atkinson and the 4th. floor nursing staff of South Shore Regional Hospital for all the care and compassion they provided to Creighton. Friends are invited to share their memories of Creighton with his family during visitation at Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg on Wednnesday from 3:30 -5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to celebrate Creighton's life will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in St. Paul's United Church, Blue Rocks, Rev.     3. OBIT # 5510 - EASTERN CHRONICLE - 19 FEBRUARY 1942 (note date) ARTHUR CAMERON MacDONALD, D.S.O., M.E.I.C., died at his home in London, England, on August 4th, 1940. He was born at Pictou, N.S., on October 25th, 1863. His first appointment was that of a resident engineer on the East Georgia and Florida Railway and later in the same year -1886- he was engaged on the new Croton aqueduct for the water supply of New York. In 1887, he went to Panama for the American Contracting and Dredging Company, remaining until the following year, and for some eight months, serving as acting chief engineer on this company's contracts in connection with De Lesseps' canal works. His next appointment was in Chile, where he spent the three years, 1889-92 as chief engineer on the location and construction of the Pahimilla-Alconia Railway and the Tuena Piden Railway. This was followed by three years as general manager of the San Agustin Mining Company, at Iquique, a post which he relinquished to become principal assistant engineer on the Huara Direct Nitrate Railway. From 1896 to 1900, he was chief engineer of the Agua Santa Railway and Nitrate Company Ltd. and from 1900-1905, of Borax Consolidated, Limited, for whom he explored the borax deposits in the Andes, constructed calciming works on the Bolivian border, and made surveys for two mountain railways. In 1905, Mr. MacDonald founded the firm of MacDonald, Gibbs and Company, London, England, and since that date had been continuously engaged in road, railway and other large constructional works; except for the period of the Great War, when he commanded the 11th Labour Battalion, Royal Engineers, and later became chief engineer of the Albanian Relief Expedition to evacuate the Serbians through Albania, for which service he received the D.S.O. in 1916, and the White Eagle of Serbia. Later he was appointed A.D.F.W.(Aviation), after having been on the H.Q. in France for some months as a consultant. Among the undertakings carried out under his supervision were the Mejillones and Collahuast branches of the Antofgasta Railway, involving work at more than 4,800 m. above sea level; the San Pedro and Cerillos pipe line; many surveys in South America, and for the Halifax and Northeastern Railway in Nova Scotia, and, more recently, the survey for the San Paulo Railway in 1926-27, the construction of the San Paulo?Parana Railway, in 1928-31, the 90 miles road from Buines to Concepcion in Chile, and the Mahomet Aly barrage in Egypt, completed about a year ago. Colonel MacDonald was elected a Member of the Institute in 1898. He was also a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers as well as a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.

She is survived by a daughter, Judy (Rick) Clayton, Upper Clements; grandchildren, Jaylene, Marika, and Delilah; brother, Ivan Charlton, Annapolis Royal; sisters, Leona Rafuse, Annapolis Royal; Hattie Rafuse, Bridgewater. She was predeceased by her husband, Clifford; daughter, Nancy; brothers, Percy and Walter; sisters, Nina, Mary, and Ida.     3. Mrs. John Mossman 1912 Progress Enterprise The death of Mrs. John Mossman took place at her home at Upper Kingsburg on Thursday last to the regret of her many friends. Death was due to tubercular, after seveal years illness. Deceased was 32 years old. She is survived by a husband; mother, Mrs. David Mossman; and one sister. Mrs. Milledge Fraser of Upper LaHave, who have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community. Services were held on Friday and were conducted by Rev. George C. Robertson.

The death of Margaret, the 7 year old daughter of Captain and Mrs. William Cook, took place on Friday of tuberculosis meningitis. The bereaved parents have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends. Burial services were held on Saturday and were conducted by Rev. Hobbs, assisted by Rev. Robertson. The choir sang a special quartette.

Mrs. James Barnes Rose Bay and Riverport News 1912 Progress Enterprise The remains of the late Mrs. James Barnes arrived on Saturday from Boston where death resulted from peritonities after a short illness. Deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Oxner and with her husband was home on a visit only a short time previous to her death. A team load of beautiful flowers, contributed by loving friend in Boston, accompanied the casket here. Her parents, husband, four sisters, and four brothers survive. Services were held on Tuesday by Rev. George C. Robertson.

Hilda Dexter 2010 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Thursday, August 12, 2010. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Hilda Dexter, 87, of Brooklyn, Queens County, passed away peacefully in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool on Tuesday, August 10. 2010. Born at Edinburgh, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late Cyril and Annie (Fair) Parrott. Hilda served with the British Army during the Second World War in the A.T.S. Postal Division. In 1945, she immigrated to Canada and became the assistant post mistress for Brooklyn for over 20 years alongside her husband, Dick. She was proud to be a member of the Nova Scotia War Brides Association. She is survived by her daughter, Heather (Ron) Decker, Dartmouth; and her granddaughter, Krista Decker( David Aucoin), Dartmouth. She was predeceased by her husband, Elvin Victor "Dick"; and half-sister, Nancy Lockie. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers' Funeral Home, Liverpool. A private scattering at sea will be held at a later date. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to the Queens County Branch of the Victorian Order of Nurses. Hilda's family would like to thank the caring staff of Queens General Hospital and the special ladies who cared for her in her home during these last few months.

    3. OBIT # 5508 - EASTERN CHRONICLE - 15 JANUARY 1942 HUGH D. CUMMING - TEULON, MAN - There passed away at his home in Teulon, Manitoba, on January 5th, HUGH DUNCAN CUMMING, for many years an Inspector of Schools for the Province of Manitoba. Mr. Cumming was a man of tireless energy, sterling integrity and unusual native ability. He was singularly gifted as a teacher and had made significant contributions to the school system and educational policies of the province. From his boyhood he was deeply interested in nature study and was in large measure responsible for the advanced methods of teaching this subject which the Manitoba Department of Education has developed. He was born at Cummings' Mountain, Pictou County, N.S., on April 7th, 1879, the fourth son of WILLIAM and AGNES(MacMillan) CUMMING. Educated in the ideal school(Sunny Brae) and at Pictou Academy, he first taught school at Sunny Brae for two years and in 1904 removed to Manitoba where he was at first a district school teacher, then principal of the Teulon High School, superintendent of an industrial school at Portage la Prairie, and finally, as already noted, an Inspector of Schools. He was married on July 1st, 1909, to Miss OLIVE LYLE ARCHIBALD, whom old residents of Sunny Brae will remember as the daughter of Rev.WILLIAM ARCHIBALD, minister in Sunny Brae from 1895 to 1904. They had seven children, six of whom survive, WILLIAM, in the Entomological Branch of the department of Argriculture at Winnipeg; JOHN, in the lumber buisness at Teulon; HANA HELEN, a school teacher; AGNES, a graduate nurse; JEAN, a senior student at the University of Manitoba; and LOIS, a high school student. Mrs. Cumming predeceased her husband seven years ago.

    3. UNKNOWN PAPER - 5 DECEMBER 1962 WILLIAM MACRAE - Upper North River - The body of the late William MacRAE was found Monday morning, November 19 after an extensive search. Mr. MacRAE had gone hunting Saturday about noon and failed to return in the evening. Searchers were out Sunday and again Monday until the body was found. Mr. MacRAE was born in Nuttby, the son of the late Isaac MacRAE and Mrs. MacRAE, and he would have been 47 years old in December. Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by four sons, Hollis of Bible Hill, Sterns, Carl and Sterling and one daughter Audrey at home. A daughter Joyce predeceased him 13 years ago. Four brothers, Harvey of Tatamagouche Mountain, John of Truro, Norman of Nuttby, Ernest of Upper North River; a sister Emma (Mrs. Hoffman MacQUARRIE), of Central North River and a half-brother, Newton of Onslow Mountain also survive. The largely attended funeral was held from Mattatall's Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon, Rev. George P. ALLEN officiating. A solo "Sometime We'll Understand" was sung by Mr. Allen.

Born at First South, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Arlean (Zinck) Conrad. She was a member of zion Luthern Church, Lunenburg and a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 23, Lunenburg. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her daughter, Anna (Mrs. Bernard Hannam), Lunenburg; grandchildren, Gerald,Bridget, Brenda, Brian, and Michael; six great-granddaughters. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald; brothers, Collon, Ray; sister, Lucille; a sister in infancy; and a half-sister, Marguerite. Visitation was held in Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in Zion Lutheran Church, Lunenburg, Rev. Douglas Moore officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, The Arthritis Society, or Zion Lutheran Church.

    3. Mrs. John Baker 1928 Progress Enterprise Published: July 18, 1928. The death occurred at the home of her son, Herman, at Farmington, on Wednesday afternoon, July 4, of Eliza, widow of John Baker. Mrs. Baker was 69 years old, a longtime resident of Farmington and very highly respected. Her death followed a long illness. She was the last surviving member of the family of the late Ephraim and Mrs. Spidel. Her husband predeceased her by 27 years. She is survived by three daughters and four sons. The daughters are Lizzie, Mrs. John Durkee, Boston; Gladys, Mrs. J. Woodrow, Truro; and Miss Frances, of Winnipeg. The sons are Silas, living in the united States; Hiram, Orman, and Harry of Farmington. The deceased was Baptist in religion. The funeral service was from her late home on Friday. Rev. H.Hutchinson officiated. Interment was in the cemetery at Barss Corner.

She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Butler Branch 44, Ladies Auxiliary, Chester; a member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church and Ladies Guild; the Chester Basin Over 40 Club. For many years she opened her home to boarding private workman and children from Bonny Lea Farm. She was also an active volunteer at Bonny Lea Farm for several years. She is survived by daughters, Betty (Mrs. Elroy Creaser), Lunenburg; Joyce (Mrs. Chester Bond), East Chester; Gail (Mrs. Ben Heisler), Dartmouth; sisters, Rachael DeBaie, Truro; Lillian Harvey, Parrsboro; Alice Sheridan, South Maitland, Hants County; brothers, James, Halifax, Fred, Windsor Road; Henry William "Peter", Napean, Ontario; grandchildren, Mary Lee Pinkney, Blair and Marlin Creaser, Shannon Sethuram, Ben, Trevor, and Shelley Heisler; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. We are sorry to learn of the death of one of our respectable old ladies of this place which occurred at Boston, Mass., a few days ago, Mrs. Jacob Rafuse, in her 82nd. year. She, with her daughter, Sophia, went over about a year ago and was staying with her daughters, Kezia and Alice, where she took sick and died very suddenly. Her body is buried over there.

    3. Harvey Lantz 1931 Progress Enterprise Published: July 15, 1931. The death of Harvey Lantz, an aged and lifelong resident of Farmington, occurred at the home of his stepson, Clarence Veinotte, on the fourth. The deceased succumbed to an attack of pneumonia. He was 87 years of age. His wife predeceased him four years ago. A brother and two sisters survive, Mrs. Richard deLong of Farmington and Mrs. Barss, Middleton, survive. The funeral service was held on Monday. The service was from the residence of Clarence Veinotte. Interment was made at Farmington with Rev. Harry Hutchinson of Barss Corner Baptist Church conducting the service. The deceased was a member of the Baptist Church. (There is no cemetery in Farmington. He is buried in the Barss Corner Baptist Cemetery.)

ROGENA NEIMA, held yesterday afternoon in St.John the Baptist Church, was very largely attended by sorrowing friends and neighbours. The body was conveyed from her home at 7th Street, Trenton, at 1:45 pm Sunday to the Church, where the funeral service was conducted by Rev. D. R. Chisholm, P.P., at 2 pm. Interment was in the St. John's Cemetery and pall bearers were her three sons, J. GEORGE, of Fargo, North Dakota; MICHAEL, of New Glasgow; and LEO, of Antigonish and her grandson, DAVID of New Glasgow. Her daughter, Mrs.L .J. ALTEEN and her husband, were here for the funeral service. Mr. Alteen returning from Newfoundland where he had been on a visit. A highly respected woman in Trenton, where she had lived the past twenty-five years. Mrs. Neima had lived a good life and had made many friends by her kindly way of living. Her passing, even at the advanced age of eighty years, came as a distinct shock to all who knew her and bearing tribute to the esteem in which the deceased was held, were the large number of flowers and messages of sympathy which came in from this and other districts in the province.

Prior to that he lived in Cape Breton and Bay Head. He was a member of the United Church, Bay Head. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Tatamagouche, and East Star, Orange Lodge and True Blue Lodge, all of Wallace. He is survived by his wife, the former Jesse Mac PATRIQUIN; a daughter, Leona LUNNEY, Frederick, Md.; three sons, Dexter, Pugwash; Walter, Tatamagouche; Harry, Gloucester, Ont.
