He was a veteran of the Second World War, Following the war, he built and operated Romkey Sales and Service station until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Rose Bay, past president of Riverport Board of Trade, member of Riverport Masonic Lodge, and past president of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 23, Lunenburg. Surviving are his wife, the former Virginia "Nini" Baetem, originally of Denermonde, Belgium, now of Fairview Villa, Halifax; daughters Lorna-Jane and husband Romaine Cook, Anne Marie Romkey, Halifax son, William and companion Robert Thomson, Halifax; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; daughter-in-law, Nancy Rogers, Lunenburg; and an aunt, Mrs. Eva Oxner, Halifax. Philip DeLong, 90, New Minas, died Monday, February 21, 2000, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born at Union Square, Lunenburg County, he was a son of the late Maynard and Sadie (Cox) DeLong. He was ordained into the United Baptist Ministry in 1935 and served a total of 39 years as a caring, dedicated pastor in the pastorates of Tancook; Grand Myra, Cape Breton; Coldstream, New Brunswick; Keswick Ridge, New Brunswick; Barrington, Waterville, New Ross, Seabright, and Tryon, Prince Edward Island. He retired in 1974 due to ill health. Dedicated to the ministry, he served in part-time ministry another 12 years as minister of visitation in Bayers Road United Baptist Church and part-time chaplain in Halifax Hospitals. He was actively involved in mission work even in retirement. In 1991 Philip and his wife, Marjorie, were instrumental in organizing the first United Baptist Missionary Group for both men and women of all ages, which is now called "The Marjorie DeLong Family Missionary Society" of the Seabright United Baptist Pastorate. He is survived by daughters, Rosalie (Mrs. Kevin Brady), Somerset, New Jersey; Dianne (Mrs. Rev. Gerald Zinck), Centreville; son, Alan DeLong and wife Pauline, Dartmouth; sister, Annetta Neaves, Halifax; brothers, Rev. Gordon DeLong, Port Williams; Rev. Deacon Herbert DeLong, Shubenacadie; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Marjorie Lillian Doleman and sister, Alberta. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today in W.C. Hiltz Funeral Parlour, Kentville. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, February 24, in the Centreville United Baptist Church, Reverends Gerald Zinck, Jonathan Zinck, and Martin Zwicker officiating. UNKNOWN PAPER - 3 MARCH 1951 DUNCAN MURRAY - One of Earltown's highly respected citizens, Duncan MURRAY, passed away on March 1 at the Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche, where he was a patient for the past two weeks. The late Mr. MURRAY was the son of the late Alexander and Ellen SUTHERLAND MURRAY, Earltown. Mr. MURRAY was possessed of a quiet and kindly nature and he enjoyed a wide circle of friends. The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Earltown United Church and was largely attended by relatives and friends from far and near. His pastor, Rev. Ralph WAGNER, conducted the service, Hymns sung were "The Lord's My Shepherd", "OH, God of Bethel" and "Abide with Me." Surviving are two sisters Misses Sarah and Annabell MURRAY of Earltown. Pall bearers were Andrew CAMPBELL, Murray CAMPBELL, Jim MacKENZIE, Archie MacDONALD, Archie CAMERON and Gilbert MURRAY. Interment was in the Earltown cemetery.

    3. Mrs. Ellen Wentzell 1954 Bridgewater Bulletin The death of Mrs. Ellen Wentzell occurred at her home in New Germany on Sunday July 18th., at the age of 85 years. Born at West Northfield, she was the daughter of the late James Sarty and Marjorie (Veinot) Sarty. One aged brother, Edwin Sarty, is the last surviving member of her family. Her husband, the late Hugo Wentzell, predeceased her by fifteen years, as did four children in earlier years. Following her husband's death, she spent some years in the United States, residing with her sons in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Returning to New Germany in 1952, she had resided with her son, Oscar Wentzell and family. In her immediate family, she is survived by six sons and two daughters, Laura (Mrs. John Trethewey); Lulu (Mrs. Ernest Oickle), New Germany; Stan and Carroll, Gorham, New Hampshire; Fletcher and Harold, Brockton, Massachsetts; Fred, Hiealeah, Florida; Oscar, New Germany; also twenty-eight grandchildren; twenty-nine grandchildren; and a large number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held from Trinity Lutheran Church on Tuesday afternoon conducted by her pastor, Rev. W.L. Myra. Hymns sung were "Come Ye Disconsolate," What Cheering Words are These," and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Pallbearers were Carmern Meisner, Atwood Meisner, Carmen Meisner Jr., George Feindel, Randolph Veinot, and Eugene Lantz.

He is survived by his wife, Edith (Aulenback); daughters, Rose (Scott) Cullen; Judy (Kurt) Dominix, very special granddaughters, Natasha and Niketa Dominix, and Shelby Cullen, all of Middle New Cornwall. Also surviving are sisters, Hattie Nauss, Middle New Cornwall; Marion (Lawrence) Holman, Mahone Bay; Hope (Oswald) Faulkenham Myrtle (Cecil) Eisnor, all of Middle New Cornwall; Eva (Stephen) Schnare, Northwest; brother, Ronald (Sharon) Nauss, Middle New Cornwall; sister-in-law, Claudia Nauss, Lower Cornwall; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Lawrence and Russell. Ozem worked for many years for the Town of Mahone Bay as maintenance personnel. Prior to that he drove a truck for several years for Lawrence Veinotte Enterprises, Middle New Cornwall. His favourite pastimes were small engine repair, working in the woods, and spending time with his family. Cremation has taken place. A graveside memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, in New Cornwall Baptist Cemetery, Middle New Cornwall, Rev. Lawson Aulenback officiating. Family flowers only. Born on October 31, 1924, at Clark's Harbour, he was a son of the late Maitland and Josephine (Nickerson) Kenney. Albert was a deacon and member of the United Baptist "Stone" Church, Clark's Harbour. He enjoyed talking with his friends on the VHF, feding and raising ducks. Albert grew up on Seal Island and was very skilled at building crafts such as weather vanes and gaft handles or whatever his friends needed. Survived by sons, Albert Lowell Jr. (Jeannie) and Maxwell (Sybil), Clark's Harbour; daughters, Amanda (Kurt Symonds) Fox, Clark's Harbour; Constance (Barry) Cole, Riverport; sister, Irene Blades, Carleton Village; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren. UNKNOWN PAPER - 2 March 1951 ARTHUR SMITH - Postman Finds Man Dead, Sitting in Chair - Arthur SMITH, who lived alone in his home on Florida Road, was discovered dead Thursday, 28 February, when the postman in the district investigated after Mr. SMITH failed to collect his mail, delivered the previous two days. Percy PATRIQUIN, delivering the mail on R.R.1 Wentworth, with Kelley LETCHER, car driver, on Wednesday had a pension cheque for Mr. SMITH. He failed to meet the mail man. On Thursday when he again failed to appear, the mailman asked his driver to take the cheque into the house, Mr. Fletcher found the door locked, but saw the elderly gentleman sitting in his rocking chair. Neighbors were notified and the police called. Later in the day an investigation was held. Those present were Dr. Dan MURRAY, Constable J.L. LEWIS, Barrister William NEILSON, Tatamagouche; Edward Smith, Malagash, brother of the deceased; Kelly LETCHER, and Mr. SMITH's nearest neighbors. It was decided at this inquiry that an inquest was not necessary. The deceased was last seen by a neighbor, Russell FLANAGAN, on last Sunday, sawing wood outside his home. Neighbors cannot recall seeing any light or smoke from the house since that time, and groceries purchased on the previous Friday were still unopened. Deceased was in his 86th year and was born in Wentworth, Cumberland County, and was a veteran of World War One. He settled in New Annan about four years ago. He is survived by one son Joseph in the United States; one sister, Maude ARLINGTON, Mass.; three brothers, Edward, Malagash; Martin, Ontario; and Sidney, Kemptown. The funeral will be held in West New Annan United Church on Saturday at 2 p.m. Rev. Gerald BRUCE of Tatamagouche officiating. Interment will be in Bell Gift cemetery, West New Annan.

    3. Vera Belle Emeneau 1982 Bridgewater Bulletin Vera B. Emeneau, 79, of Upper LaHave, passed away suddenly at the Mahone Nursing Home on January 30, 1982. Born at Upper LaHave, on December 28, 1902, she was the oldest daughter of Leaman and Emma (Wentzell) Naugler. During the early years of her life, she was employed in the Boston and Cape Cod area of the United States where she later married and began her family. During the early 1930's, she returned with her husband and family to Upper LaHave whre she resided until last August when illness caused her to reside at Mahone Nursing Home. She was a member of Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church and Lutheran Church Women, a member of Woodbine Rebekah Lodge #53, and a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Dayspring and District Fire Department. She is survived by her devoted husband, Earl Emeneau; three daughters, Daisy (Mrs. Victor Buonopane), Malden, Mass.; Anita (Mrs. Gordon Oickle), Rhodes Corner; and Betty (Mrs. George Joudrey), Pine Grove; two sisters, Jessie (Mrs. Bert Aulenback), Upper LaHave; and Mrs. Gladys Demone, bBridgewater; two brothers, Paul and Lorraine of Upper LaHave; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She taught in numerous one room schoolhouses along the South Shore, in particular East Jordan, Tusket, Sable River, Pentz, Mader's Cove, First South, and also in Mahone Bay School. She taught Junior High Science and elementary grades at Centre Consolidated School for a number of years. She was a highly respected, dedicated teacher who was well known for her love of children. She was an active member of the retired Teachers Association and a faithful member of Central United Church, Lunenburg. Elsie was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Loving family members are husband, Donald; son, Ronald and wife Betty, Head of St. Margaret's Bay; daughter, Suzanne Bailly, Halifax; grandchildren, Jonathan Dacey, Bloomington, Indiana; Andrew Dacey, Halifax; Margaret, Jennifer Bailly, Head of St. Margaret's Bay; sisters-in-law, Amy Mosher, Mahone Bay; Margaret (Bailly) Stoker, Halifax; brother-in-law, Frank "Bill" Bailly Sr., Halifax; nieces, Helen (Bailly) Bennett, Lunenburg; Arlene Smeltzer, Mader's Cove. She was predeceased by brothers, Roy, Ralph, Harry, Earl in early childhood; sister, Gladys Stroudsburg, Pa.; and her dear brother, Percy Mosher, Mahone Bay. Visitation will be held from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Rev. Grace Caines-Corkum officiating at Central United Church, Lunenburg. Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Mahone Bay. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Percy R. Mosher Memorial Fund, Trinity United Church, Mahone Bay or to a charity of your choice, through Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg.

Muriel Josephine MacKay 2011 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Saturday, November 26, 2011. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Muriel Josephine MacKay, 98, of Shelburne, died peacefully on November 24, 2011, in Roseway Manor, Sandy Point. Born at Shelburne, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Lydia (Dolliver) Swansburg. Muriel was a lifelong resident of Shelburne and was a very community-minded individual. She was a member of the I.O.D.E., the Shelburne Historical Society, an acrive member of the Genealogical Society and a founding member of the Shelburne Garden Club. She was a member of Trinity United Church as well as the U.C.W. Muriel was a natural genealogist and was frequently called upon for her recollections. She is survived by her daughters, Jane (David) Cushing, Sally (John) DeWolf and Mary Lee Gonzaga; grandchildren, Susan, Nancy, Paul, Sarah, Alison, Jaime, and JoAnn, as well as seven great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, Russell Alexander MacKay and sister, Jean Swansburg. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Sunday, November 27, from 7-9 p.m. in H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Shelburne. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 28 at 2 p.m. in Trinity United Church, Shelburne with Rev. Joanne McFadden officiating. Family flowers only.
