Farley Albert Swim 2009 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Monday, July 6, 2009. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Captain Farley Albert Swim, Jordan Falls- It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Captain Farley Albert Swim on July 4, 2009, at home here in Jordan Falls. Born February 2, 1930, in Lockeport, he was a son of the late John W. and Sarah (Gates) Swim. Farley lived a fulfilled life and was educated at Acadia University. His career varied from working at Steel & Engine to fishing captain of three vessels to original owner/operator of the White Gull Restaurant in Lockeport. He was a member of the original Lockeport & Area Lions club and a member of Shelburne Legion, Branch No. 63. Upon retiring from fishing and the restaurant business, Farley embarked on a new life of hobbies and caring for his pets and wildlife. Farley loved feeding the wild birds. In winter he could be seen pulling a sleigh full of feed for hungry deer in the snow. He was a kind and gentle man towards all animals and birds. His hobbies included his love of wildlife, gardening, and woodworking. He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his companion of 23 years, Shirley Morash; his children, Joy Martin, Prince Edward Island; Mark (Paula), Allendale; Michael (Catherine), Prince Edward Island; Paul (Shelley),Sable River; Natalie (Allan), East Green Harbour; Carle (Rhonda), Shelburne; and stepchildren, Adam (Lisa), Winnipeg; Paul, Halifax. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Farley was "Uncle Farley" to many children. Visitation will be today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Chapel, Shelburne with Rev. Norma Mitchell officiating. Interment in Lake John Cemetery. Family flowers only. Born May 22, 1939, in Hubbard's Point, he was a son of the late Wilbert and Catherine (Muise) Doucette. Surviving are his common-law wife, Sheila Steadman; daughter, Michelle Amirault; and Michelle's mother, Ruth Amirault, both of East Pubnico; brothers, Frank (Carol) Doucette, Alan Doucette and his former wife Kathy, both of Hubbard's Point. He was predeceased by brothers, Gerald and Leo; sister, Jeanette. Vistition will be from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, with prayers at 8 p.m., both in H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, February 28, in Saint Anne's Catholic Church, Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau, Father Crepin Khonde officiating. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery. Gerhardt, 80, Liverpool passed away February 23, 2005, in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool. Born at Western Head, he was the son of the late Joseph and Sadie (Payzant) Gerhardt. Victor spent most of his life working on the sea. He worked on tow boats and the scallop boat "Flying Cloud". He was a loving husband, dad, and grandfather. He enjoyed the outdoors spending many years camping with Bertha and making lots of new friends. He liked vacationing at his favourite spot in Prince Edward Island. He is survived by his wife, Bertha (Taillon Doull); daughter, Sherri (Ted) Roy, Truro; stepdaughters, Barbara (Earl) West, Port Hawkesbury; Doreen (Donald) Cunningham, Milton; Anne Godkin (John Chishom), New Glasgow; Alta Mason, Liverpool; Susan (Garlent) Oickle, Port Medway; Eunice Sprung, (Monty Gale), Toronto; Christine Taillon (Keith Lewis), Auburn; stepson, Hugh (Shirley) Taillon, Digby; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Marie McDonald, Brooklyn. Walter Riley Trask 2009 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Tuesday, July 7, 2009. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Walter Riley Trask, 101, of Sandford, Yarmouth County, passed away July 5, 2009, in Sandford. Born September 12, 1907, he was a son of the late Arnold and Margaret (Bain) Trask. Walter drove a truck for the town of Yarmouth for a few years for his first job. He then did lobster fishing until 1948. Then he drove a dozer for Trask and Shaw Company until 1956. In 1957 he drove heavy equipment for the highway for 11 years, then drove his own truck for general trucking until 1972, at which time he retired and talked to his friend on the CB radio. (He was known as Skipper) and enjoyed life until now. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth (Eric) Joudrey of Lower Sackville; sons, Charles (Louise) Trask of Truro; George (Debbie) of Sandford; sister, Muriel Terris of Amherst; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and long-time friend, Barbara LeBlanc. He was predeceased by his wife, Hope; sisters, Pearl, Phyllis, Lila, and Eva; brothers, Harold and Irvine; and granddaughter, Clare. The body is resting in Sweeny's Funeral Home in Yarmouth where visiting hours will be today from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 8, at 2 p.m., all from Sweeny's Funeral Home in Yarmouth, Rev. Phoebe Ann MacKay 1940 Bridgewater Bulletin Her weary soul found rest in Jesus when there departed from this earth, on Friday morning, February 23rd., at the age of sixty years and nine months, Phoebe Ann MacKay, wife of James A. MacKay, of New Germany. The deceased was born at Union Square, the daughter of the late Foston and Sarah Feindel. She was a member of the Anglican Church, having given herself to Christ as a young girl and living in close communion with him throughout her entire life. Left to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother are, her husband; four children, Margery and Lester, at home; Ruth (Mrs. Silas Bolivar), also at home; and Helen (Mrs. Laurie Wile), of Buckfield; also three sisters, Nettie (Mrs. James Ernst), of Stanburne; Mrs. Theresa Patten, of West Berlin; and Flora (Mrs. Edward Bagley), of Eagle Head; and eight grandchildren. One sister, Ada, predeceased her four years ago. Following a short service at the house led by Rev. W.H. Palmer, of the United Church, the funeral was conducted by her pastor, Rev. Clinton Veinot from St. John's Church in the Wilderness on Sunday, February 25th. Interment was at New Germany Cemetery.
James Archibald MacKay 1967 Bridgewater Bulletin The death occurred on Wednesday afternoon, March 22nd.,1967, at the Dawson Memorial Hospital, of James Archibald MacKay, one of the oldest residents of New Germany. Although in ill health for the past eight months, his death came suddenly. Mr. MacKay was born at Upper Northfield on June 23rd., 1880 the son of Jotham and Sarah (Fancey) MacKay. As a young boy he moved to Roslindale, Massachusetts with his family, where he grew up. He was associated with Background painting, being manager of Fresno Scenic Company in Roslindale. His hobby was photography. In 1905 he moved to Nova Scotia and joined with his father and brothers in the manufacture of wooden boxes at Upper Northfield. In 1917 he moved his family to New Germany and operated another branch of the box factory at Indian Brook Falls until 1925. For 38 years he was employed at Zwickers' Box Factory as foreman of that part of the mill manufacturing small wooden boxes. He retired in August, 1965. In younger years he was active in Municipal affairs, secretary and trustee of South Rosedale School Section from 1918 until the single unit took over in 1946. He was also Justice of the Peace. During his last years he was devotedly cared for by his daughter, Ruth and family with whom he resided. He leaves to mourn the loss of a wise and beloved father and grandfather, one son, Lester of Truro; three daughters, Mrs. Helen Wile, Buckfield, Queens County; Ruth (Mrs. Silas Bolivar), at home; Margery (Mrs. Arthur Bolivar), Bridgewater; 24 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Kenneth at New Germany and many nephews and niecces. His wife, the former Phoebe Feindel, predeceased him 27 years ago and one grandson at Easter four years ago. The funeral service was held on Saturday, March 25th., at 2 p.m. from Epworth United Church, New Germany, of which he was a member. Rev. James Crooks officiated. Pall bearers were grandchildren, Glyn, Graham, and Merrill Wile and Lawrence, David, and Freddie Bolivar. Hymns were "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "The Lord is my Shepherd." Comforting words were read from Psalm 121; 1st.Cor.15:20-25, 35-38; Rev. 21 :1-4; and St. John 6: 37-40. Interment was at Lakeside Cemetery.
Charles Lohnes 1925 Progress Enterprise New Germany News April 30, 1925. The death of Charles Lohnes occurred at his home here on Thursday, April 30th., after a lingering illness of tuberculosis. Mr. Lohnes was 57 years of age. His wife predeceased him over a year ago. He is survived by a mother, who cared for him during his illness; two sons, Max and Currie; two brothers and four sisters in the United States. The funeral, which was largely attended , was conducted by Rev. G.W.Beck, Methodist and Rev. D.A. MacKinnon, Presbyterian. The floral tributes were beautiful. The deceased was a member of the Methodist Church and will be missed by a circle of friends.

Born at Liverpool on July 3, 1930, Mervin was the son of the late Joseph and Nora (Whynot) Whynot. He was a carpenter most of his life with his last job being with C.E. Ingram Construction Limited until he retired. Mervin enjoyed being with his family, get-togethers, hunting, watching the Toronto Blue Jays and Western movies and his beloved cats, "Ginger" and Coco." He is survived by his wife, Hazel (Wolfe), at home; son, Phillip, Milton; daughters, Christine (Larry McCoombs), Maxine (Billy Joudrey), both of Milton; Janet Andrews (Terry Himmelman), Liverpool; grandchildren, Amanda McCoombs, Milton; Jennifer Whynot, Bridgewater; Joseph and Megan Joudrey, Milton; great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Isaac Whynot, Bridgewater; brother, Arnold, Liverpool; sisters, Eleanor, Milton and Lorretta, Liverpool. Mervin was predeceased by brothers, Cyril, Vincent, Reid, Dennis, and sister, Joyce. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, Liberal Association, as well as the Upper Vaughan's Baptist Church. Her gentle kind ways brought blessings to friends and family for 84 years. Ada was very devoted to her church and family. She enjoyed the quiet pleasures of life, knitting, reading, playing her organ, and baking (especially her molasses cookies). Ada will be sadly mourned and never forgotten by her loving family. She is survived by daughters, Francena (Mrs. Norman d'Entremont), New Glasgow; Kendra (Mrs. William Russell), Leminster; sons, Harley, Leminster; Clinton, Digby; Melvin, Marin's Point; Rodney, Leminster; twin brother, Emery Wile, Wile Settlement; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. UNKNOWN PAPER - 10 FEBRUARY 1951 EARL KALMAN NICHOLS - East Earltown - This community was saddened on January 27 when it became known that Earl Kalman NICHOLS, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben NICHOLS, had passed away suddenly at his home at Louisville on January 25. He was born at Upper North River 41 years ago and in 1910 he moved to East Earltown with his parents where he made many friends. The funeral was largely attended by sorrowing relatives and friends on Monday afternoon January 29, from the home of his parents and was conducted by the Rev. Mr. WAGNER of New Annan United Church who spoke words of comfort to the bereaved family. He is survived by his father and mother, also one sister (LENNIE) Mrs. LEWIS ROODE. The hymns sung were The Haven of Rest, The Sweet Bye and Bye and The Lord's My Shepherd. The pall bearers were Rex MINGO, Harold HIGGENS, William MANNING, Russell McKAY, Douglas MURRAY, John A. McKAY. Interment was in the Forest Hill Cemetery. Floral tributes were many and beautiful.

John Shupe 1888 Lunenburg Progress Published: December 26, 1888. We are called upon to announce the death of Mr. John Shupe of Martin's Point, brother of William Shupe, who passed away on the 18th. instant. He returned from the Banks in June last, in the agonies of rheumatism so excruciating that wild screaming became chronic, weakening his lungs till they became the subject of consumption, from which disease he died.
