Born at Dalhousie East, Kings County, she was the oldest child of the late James and Georgina (Gray) Veinotte. She, with her husband and two children, moved to New York state in 1926, and lived nearly 70 years in Smithtown, New York. Surviving are daughter, Edith (Mrs. Charles Buckheit), Smithtown; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Lona Henley, Granville Ferry; Elaine Daniels, Cataumet, Mass.; brother, Ronald, Pickering, Ontario; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ettney; son, Louis; daughter, Madeline; a grandson; brothers, Everett, Ethan, Harold, Loraine, DeWayne. Funeral was held August 5 in Hawkins and Davis Funeral Home, Smithtown. Burial was in Hauppauge Rural Cemetery.

Born at New Canada, Lunenburg County, she was a daughter of the late Silvanus and Adelaide (Whynot) Seamone. She was a charter member of New Horizons Senior Citizens Club, Berwick; member of St. Eudora Rebekah Lodge, Berwick, and an active member of Berwick United Church. She is survived by a son, Roland, Kingston; two daughters, Marjorie (Mrs. Gordon Anderson), Halifax; Juanita Palmer, New Minas; brother, Kenneth, New Germany; sister, Laura Corkum, Bridgewater; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy; brother, Fred. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Saturday in H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Berwick, where a Rebekah Lodge service will be 7 p.m. Saturday. Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Berwick United Church, Rev. Donald MacPherson and Lic. John Parks officiating. Burial will be in Berwick Cemetery, with a reception to follow in Berwick United Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grand View Manor, or Berwick UCW.

    3. Silvanus Seamone 1930 Bridgewater Bulletin New Germany, February 5- The death occurred suddenly on Monday afternoon of Silvanus Seamone, of Stanley Section. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Seamone and was born at Stanley Section sixty years ago. His entire life has been spent in this place, where he was a successful farmer, as well as being associated with his brothers, William and Stephen, in a saw-milling business. He is survived by his widow, who before her marriage was Miss Addie W. Whynot, of New Germany, and by two sons, Kenneth and Fred; and a daughter, Miss Nellie, all at home; and by one daughter, Miss Laura, at present engaged as school teacher in the Watford Section; also by brothers, William and Stephen; and a sister, Miss Martha, all residing at Stanley Section; and a sister, Ida, wife of Amos Eisenhauer of Bridgewater, Mass. In religion he was a member of the Methodist, later the United Church and the funeral service , which was held in the Baptist Church, New Canada, Wednesday afternoon, was conducted by Rev. Colin MacRae, with interment in the cemetery at New Canada.

Miss Doris Hirtle 1933 Bridgewater Bulletin The community was greatly shocked and saddened on Friday, February 3rd., by the sudden death of Doris Hirtle, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hirtle. The deceased met her death by a fall from a sled while coasting. She died almost instantly having sustained a broken neck. She was twelve years of age, and being of a happy disposition, was loved by all who knew her. She leaves father, mother, and a brother to mourn their great loss, also a large number of relatives and friends. The funeral was held on Monday at 1 p.m.; there being a short service at the home, during which the hymn,"Sometime We'll Understand" was sung. The funeral service was held at the Union Church, Rev. Mr. Whitman officiating. The hymns sung were,"Asleep in Jesus," "Face to Face," and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." At the cemetery, while the hymn "Sister, Thou Wert Mild and Lovely" was being sung, her teacher and schoolmates paid her a touching and beautiful tribute by dropping flowers in the open grave. (This family lived in Upper Branch.)

    3. UNKNOWN PAPER - 28 NOVEMBER 1946 MRS. GEORGE MACLANDERS - The community of Brule, and outlying district mourn the death of Mrs. George MacLANDERS, (nee Jennie Belle MacKAY) which occurred at the home of her son, Arthur MacLANDERS on November 18th. Although in failing health for some time, she was not confined to her room, until about 8 days preceeding her demise. Mrs. MacLANDERS possessed a kind, sympathetic and loving nature, and her gracious personality endeared her to the hearts of all who knew her and will long be remembered. Faithful to her family and church, she was a clever scholar and taught school in her younger days for a great many years. She was a staunch member of the Presbyterian faith, and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was born at Waughs River, 88 years ago, a daughter, of the late Mr. and Mrs. James McKAY, her husband, George MacLANDERS, predeceased her, over fifteen years ago. The surviving family included Elizabeth at Tatamagouche Mtn., Ruth U.S.A., Minnie, Irene, Marion and Isabelle, all of Sask, Canada. John R. and Arthur at Brule, Angus and George in B.C. There are 31 Grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. ROSS, and Mrs. DONALDSON, surviving. Her pastor, Rev. M. MacDONALD conducted the funeral service a short service at 1.30 at the home, and 2 p.m. at Brule church, which was largely attended. The text Heb. 6-12 That ye be not slothful; but followers of the faith, who through faith and patience inherit the Promises. Rev. Mr. MacDONALD exemplified her great patience, cheerfulness and faith which gave inspiration to all who knew her. The Hymns sung by the choir were, "The Lord's my Shepherd," "Sweetly Resting", and "Asleep in Jesus." There were six pall bearers George DONALDSON, Carl, Don, Kenzie and Walter MacLANDERS and Hugh SUTHERLAND. There were many beautiful floral tributes from the immediate family, and one from the W.M.S., of which she was a faithful worker. Born at North River, she was a daughter of the late Archibald Oickle, Sr., and Rosena (Acker) Oickle. She is survived by five daughters, Eleanor (Mrs. Gordon Robar), Eva (Mrs. Leslie Daniels), Lona (Mrs. Donald Burgoyne), Beatrice (Mrs. Ellis Drew), all of North River; and June (Mrs. Fred Cloney), of McAdam New Brunswick; four sons, Russell and Foster of North River; Berlyn, Springfield; and Basil, North River; a brother, Whitford, North River; 41 grandchildren; 70 grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Martin; four daughters, Audrey, Marjorie, Shirley, and Rose; three sons, Bernard, Eugene, and Medford; five sisters, Beatrice, Idella, Evelyn, Goldy, and Addy-May; five brothers, William, Murray, Isaac, Abraham, and Archibald, Jr. The body rested at Langille's funeral Home, New Germany. Funeral service was held on Sunday, September 9, 1990, from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, of which she was a member, with Rev. Robert Robb officiating. Burial was in the Old North River Cemetery. Hymns sung were "Amazing Grace" "Nearer, My God, to Thee," and "Higher Hands." Paallbearers were grandsons- Tim Robar, Carter Robar, Matthew Robar, Roland Burgoyne, Myles Drew, and great grandson, Jeffery Drew.

Born at Upper Branch, October 7, 1901, he was the son of the late Solomon and Della (Snyder) Oickle. Although in failing health the last few years, his death came as a shock to his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Tena; two sons, Vernon, British Columbia; Victor, Lower Northfield; three grandchildren, David and Debbie Oickle, British Columbia; Vickie, Mrs. Paul Wagner, New Canada; one great grandson, Danial; four brothers, Willie and Percy, New Germany; Lester and Glenwood, Upper Branch; two sisters, Laurena, Mrs. Brunswick Rodenhiser; Gladys, Mrs. Wallace Boivar, both of Upper Branch; also a number of nieces and nephews. Colin William Sarty 1959 Bridgewater Bulletin A gloom was cast over the community of Upper Branch on Monday morning, February 16th., when the tolling of the church bell announced the death of Colin William Sarty at the D.M. Hospital at the age of eighty-three years and five months. The late Mr. Sarty was born at New Canada, the son of the late Stephen and Lucy Sarty and came here when yet a young man to live with his uncle, Elias Crouse. He was a life long member of the Baptist Church, superintendent of the Union Sunday School here ever since it was organized more than thirty years ago and among the floral tributes was a beautiful bouquet from the Sunday School. He also was the caretaker of the church ever since it was built in 1922 and regardless of denomination, he was always ready and willing to serve in any way possible and his passing leaves an empty place in the church life of the community which will never be filled. Funeral services on Wednesday afternoon were conducted by student pastor, Dean Annis, who preached a short but comforting sermon from John 11- 25-26, to a capacity filled house. The pall bearers were Merle Wagner, Wallace Bolivar, Brunswick Rodenhiser, Dennis Beck, Ernest Beck, and Clarence Wentzell. He leaves to mourn an only son, Leslie, at home; an aged sister, Mrs. Sarah Hall of Worcester, Mass.; a niece, Mrs. Harris Cook of New Canada; and nephew, Earl of Middleton. His wife, the former Mary Silver, predeceased him in 1933; a son, Floyd in 1968, and another son died in infancy.

    3. OBIT # 5673 - EVENING NEWS - 23 JANUARY 1973 Stellarton- One of this town's senior citizens, Mrs. Erma D. Sibille Bastin, Bridge Ave., died Sunday in the Aberdeen Hospital at the age of 93. Born in Couillet, Belgium, a daughter of the late Joseph and Celistine (Peereman) DeBoldt, she came to Canada where she ran a grocery store till 1925 retiring then and returning to her native Belgium. She remained there till after the Second World War when she returned and has resided in this area ever since. Mrs. Bastin was an adherent of Sharon-St.John United Church. She is survived by one daughter Bertha (Mrs. Peter LaChambre), Stellarton, and by three sons; Jules (Benny) Sibille, Stellarton; Hector John Sibille, Mt. William; and Victor L. Sibille, Westville Road; and by five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; also by two sisters, Amelia (Mrs. John Melisse), Stellarton and Paldine (Mrs. Joseph Jonard), California. She was predeceased by her first husband Pierre Remy Sibille in 1913, and by her second husband Vital Bastin in 1950, also by three sisters and four brothers. The remains are resting at the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home from where the funeral will be held on Wednesday at 2pm. Interment will be in Thorburn Cemetery.

    3. UNKNOWN PAPER - 23 JUNE 1964 MRS. HENRY HAYMAN - Tatamagouche - The death of Mrs. Henry HAYMAN occurred on June 18, at the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, at the age of 77 years. She was the former Miss Mary MacKAY, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel MacKAY of Earltown, and before her marriage trained as a nurse in the Boston City Hospital in Massachusetts. Coming back to Nova Scotia she did private nursing, assisting Dr. MURRAY and Dr. GASS on special cases, and spending five years as matron in the Truro Hospital. She was an excellent nurse and a favorite with her patients. After her marriage she lived in Tatamagouche, where she attended the Sedgwick Memorial Presbyterian Church, taking part in its activities in her younger days, and always ready to help where needed professionally. Her sister, Katie, (Mrs. Arthur MacLEOD) predeceased her in 1952. Surviving are her husband, a brother, James MacKAY of Earltown, a niece, Isabel, (Mrs. CODE) Port Arthur, Ontario. The funeral service was conducted from the Presbyterian Church in Earltown with Reverend Robert MILLS, minister of the Sharon United Church, Tatamagouche conducting the service. It was largely attended and the many flowers bore silent testimony to the respect and affection in which she was held. The hymns sung were "The Lord's My Shepherd" and "Abide With Me." The pallbearers were Ardeth HAYMAN, Earl HAYMAN, Harold and Henry FERGUSON, Merle HAYMAN, and Donnie MacKAY. Interment was in the Earltown Cemetery.

Cook 1946 Bridgewater Bulletin The little community of Stanley Section was shocked and saddened on Tuesday, November 5, to hear of the sudden passing of one of its oldest and respected citizens, Simeon M. Cook, at the home of his sister, Mrs. Sidney Wiles, with whom he resided. Deceased had apparently been in good health and was quite active doing chores on the farm until the time the Angel of Death claimed him as its victim. He was 79 years of age, son of the late Simeon and Rachael (Rhodenizer) Cook, of Upper Branch. During the early years of his married life he lived at Branch LaHave, thence to Middletown, Conn., where he lived for 13 years. Grief-stricken after the death of his wife, the former Miss Bessie Brady, of Italy Cross, he returned to Nova Scotia, where he lived the remainder of his life with his sister. He leaves to mourn the loss of a kind and loving brother, two sisters, (Lydia), Mrs. Sidney Wiles, Stanley Section; and (Janetta), widow of Amos Langille of Bridgewater; a number of nieces and nephews to whom he was deeply attached; and numerous other relatives and friends. A son, Ralph, predeceased him 23 years ago; also two brothers, Samuel and Silas. The funeral was held at his late residence and at the church.

    3. James Owen Snyder 1976 Bridgewater Bulletin The death occurred on May 6, 1976 at Wileville of James Owen Snyder, at the age of 96 years. Born at Baker Settlement, he was the son of the late Banford and Matilda (Baker) Snyder, moving to Midville Branch as a child and living there the greater part of his life until selling his farm and moving to Wileville, Auburndale Road, in 1969. He worked with his father as a carpenter in his youth; later a lumberman and then to farming. He became a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Midville Branch June 18, 1913. He was predeceased by his wife, Esther, October, 1968. He is survived by two sons, David, Bridgewater; Raymond, Wileville; one daughter,Betty, at home; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, John, Dayspring; Charlie, Midville; two sisters, Addie, Mrs. Hale, Worcester, Mass.; and Hazel, Mrs. Ed Rodenhiser, Bridgewater. Funeral service was held Monday, May 10, 1976, from Wamback's Memorial Chape, ,Rev . J. Anderson and Lieut. M. Peaceful, Armdale officiating. Organist was Mrs. Bernard Wile. Pallbearers were Glen Corkum, Abbe Leger, Laurie Spidell, Ronald Veinot, Vernon Veinot, and Lawrence Wile. Interment was in the family lot at Midville Branch Cemetery.

Mrs. Harold Wentzell Bridgewater Bulletin Relatives and friends were shocked and deeply saddened when it was learned that Mrs. Harold Wentzell, Midville Branch, died early Thursday afternoon, December 28th., at the age of 72 years, one month, and twenty-one days, at the D.M. Hospital, Bridgewater. Born at Upper Branch, she was the former Florence L. Wentzell, a daughter of the late Joshua and Levinia (Hirtle) Wentzell. She is survived by her husband; a son, Percy, Auburndale; a grandson, Keith; a sister, Idella (Mrs. Gordon Cook), Cookville; also a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Beatrice (Mrs. St.Clair Crowell), Bridgewater and Jennie (Mrs. Cecil Mailman), New Elm. An active member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Midville Branch, she served as secretary of the church for fifteen years, as well as superintendent and secretary of the Sunday School and the Ladies Aid. She was also active in her community of Auburndale, serving in the Sunday School as well as the Sewing Circle. She was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church Newcombville, for the past two years, where the funeral service was held on Saturday, December 30th, at 2 p.m., with Rev. J. Nunns officiating, with interment in the Brookside Cemetery at Bridgewater. Organist for the service was Mr. Clement Mailman and hymns sung were "The Lord's My Shepherd" and "Through All the Changing Scenes of Life." Pall bearers were Irvin Wentzell, Lawrence Wentzell, Ross Mailman, and Richard Wile.

    3. Joseph H. Bailly 1914 Progress Enterprise Bridgewater Enterprise News April 15 ,1914. The death of Joseph H. Bailly, eldest son of the late Henry Bailly, Esquire, occurred on Tuesday of last week. The deceased had formerly conducted a grocery and bakery business at Bridgewater and about thirty years ago, went to the United States where he remained up to the week of his death when he returned home ill and died very suddenly. He had many friends in Bridgewater and it was with profound sorrow that the announcement of his sudden death was heard. He was 64 years of age. The remains were laid to rest in Brookside Cemetery on Friday afternoon.

    3. William Henry Oickle 1941 Bridgewater Bulletin Upper Northfield, April 4- The community was shocked to hear of the sudden passing of Henry Oickle, following an illness of only two weeks. Although he had been in poor health about twenty years, yet during the winter he seemed fairly well and helped to do the chores around the barn, etc. Two weeks ago he was stricken down and death came as a shock to his family, relatives, and friends. He was esteemed for his fine qualities of heart and mind, always thankful for things done for him and willing to help others. He was born at Lower Northfield, July 16, 1867, son of the late Joseph and Eliza (Silver) Oickle. He married Miss Nettie Fancey, daughter of the late Josiah and Lavinia (Ramey) Fancey, Upper Northfield. He lived at Lower Northfield until November, 1910, when he and his family moved to Upper Northfield. He leaves to mourn their loss, a loving and devoted wife; three sons, Percey, Barss Corners; Basil, New Germany; and Hubert, at home; seven granchildren; three sisters, Alice (Mrs. Nathaniel Lohnes), of Upper Northfield; Lavinia (Mrs. Amos Ernst), of Union Square; Phoebe (Mrs. Benjamin Wagner), of Worcester, Mass.; besides a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral was held on Sunday morning at the home. The service was conducted by Rev. W.H. Palmer, New Germany who spoke very comfortingly from the words," So teach us to number our days,that we may apply our hearts to wisdom." Psalms 90-12. Hymns sung by the choir were "Rock of Ages," "Lead, Kindly Light," and "Abide With Me." His body was interred at Upper Northfield Cemetery. The pall bearers were his sons, Percey, Basil, and Hubert; assisted by James H. Penney. The floral offerings were beautiful, showing the esteem in which the deceased was held.

    3. Oswald Theodore Lohnes 1996 Halifax Chronicle Herald Oswald Theodore Lohnes, 87, Watford, died February 5, 1996, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born at Watford, he was a son of the late Currie A. and Louise C. (Fancey) Lohnes. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Upper Northfield. In his early years he was a woodsman and was a fish pedlar for over 40 years. Surviving are daughters, Marguerite Lyons, New Canada; Linda (Mrs. Charles Horstman), Bridgewater; sons, Paul, Watford; Beverley, Enfield; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Keith, New Germany. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Sadie Levy; son, Ira; grandson, Theodore; brothers, Otis, Percy, Arnold, Cecil. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday, both in Langille's Funeral Home, New Germany, Rev. William Gustafson officiating. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, Upper Northfield. Donations to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, South Shore Regional Hospital or any charity.
