    3. OBIT # 8016 - EVENING NEWS - 12 JUNE 1962 Stellarton- William C. Ryan, South Foord St., died unexpectedly at the Union Trotting Park Monday night while he was exercising a horse. He had returned the horse to the stall and had just sat down on a nail keg to light a cigarette, when he suffered a coronary and passed away. His sister, Mrs. Timothy Jellow of Mulgrave, had also died unexpectedly of a coronary just three weeks ago. Mr. Ryan was 54, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ryan of Mulgrave. He had been employed in the freight department of the Canadian National Railways since 1927, for the past seven years in Stellarton. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes parish and of the Knights of Columbus. Surviving are his wife, the former Kay Carter of Mulgrave; two sons: Elliot of Shelter Bay, Quebec; and Lewis of Stellarton; two daughters: Shirley (Mrs. Robert Ritchie), Rexdale, Ont.; Glenda, at home; one brother, John in North Sydney; four sisters, Christina (Mrs. Bert Dick), Montreal; Veronica (Mrs. Delbert Porter), western Canada; Helen (Mrs. Bernie DeCoste), and Clara. Besides Mrs. Jello, he was predeceased by two sisters, Odessa (Mrs. Perle Burbank), and Mrs. Annie MacGibbon; and one brother Emmett. The remains are resting at the MacIssac Funeral Home in Antigonish. The funeral has been tentatively set for Thursday from St. Lawrence's Catholic Church, Mulgrave.

Born at Brule, she was a daughter of the late George and Georgina (GUNN) MacLANDERS. She taught school in Pictou and Colchester for a number of years. During her lifetime she resided in Trail B.C., Pictou, Dartmouth, and Truro. She was a member of St. John's United Church Dartmouth and an adherent of St. Andrew's United Church in Truro. She is survived by one daughter Helen (Mrs. N.A. MORRISON) Truro, one grandson and one daughter and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband and one sister Ella. The body is at Mattatall's Funeral Home from where the funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. Rev. George A MacLEAN officiating assisted by Rev. Stillman CAMERON. Burial will be in Brule Cemetery.

He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Clementsport. He was an avid gardener and loved the outdoors. Violet attended Dalhousie Universityin Halifax, Teachers College in Truro and taught school in Lunenburg County for 15 years. She was a member, an organist for many years, and a Sunday School teacher at Tancook Baptist Church, where she was also a member of the Women's Missionary Society. She was blessed with many friends and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Lunenburg, where he was a member of the male and seniors choirs and served on the church council. Cedric was an active member of the Garden Lots Cemetery and the First South Cemetery. He served as a member of the Merchant Marine throughout the Second World War and rose through the ranks to become a senior officer with Imperial Oil, receiving his Masters Foreign Going Certificate. He taught at the Nova Scotia Nautical Institute until his retirement. He is survived by his wife, Vivian (Hirtlo ; son, Neil (Joan), Lower Sackville; grandchildren, Laura, Benjamin, and Matthew. He was predeceased by a brother, Harold, who was killed in action during the Second World War. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in J.A. MEREDITH, James Byron September 12, 1940 – February 21, 2011 >From the collection of Gwen Christie Byron went to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Feb. 21, 2011, after a hard-fought battle with stomach cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Barb, Hinton, AB; daughter Sue (Paul) Nakanishi and their daughters Heather and Laura, North Bay, ON; son Doug (Shelley) Meredith and their sons Time, Ryan, and Chris, Moncton, NB; son Steve (Deanne) Meredith and their daughters Robyn, Jillian and Kylie, Stillwater Lake, NS; daughter Sharon Meredith (Tim Trahan) and their son Silas, Hinton, AB; brother Bill (Betty) Meredith, Mahone Bay, NS; father-in-law Larry Foster, Saint John, NB; brothers-in-law Wayne Foster, Middle LaHave, NS; Brian (Judy) Foster, Saint John, NB; Gary (Pauline) Foster, Saint John, NB; Mark (Kathleen) Foster, Rothesay, NB; a number of aunts and uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his mother, Joyce Meredith in 2006, and his father Wayne Meredith in 2010. Born and brought up in Dartmouth, NS, Byron was for many years a Boy Scout, and received two of Scouting’s highest awards, Queen’s Scout and Bushman’s Thong. He moved to Moncton, NB in 1956, obtained his Civil Engineering degree from UNB Fredericton in 1961, and married Barbara Groves in 1962. His working career, begun at Irving Pulp and Paper in Saint John, NB, took him to St.-Anne Nackawic Pulp in Nackawic, NB in 1969. Besides being involved in raising his four children, and having the distinction of becoming the first mayor of the new community, he was active in the Nackawic Baptist Church, and served on the local school board. During this time he took park in local running and canoe races, and began his annual tradition of participating in the Terry Fox Run. In 1991 Byron and Barb moved to Alberta, where Byron was employed first with Alberta-Pacific in Edmonton and Athabasca, and then in 1993 with Weldwood in Hinton. Early retirement in 2000 was followed by contract positions at Skeen Pulp in Prince Rupert, BC in 2001, and Colt Engineering in Edmonton, AB from 2005 to 2008. Retirement years allowed more time for travel and favourite activities like camping with Barb, hunting, fishing, and golfing with good friends. Byron loved the mountains, and especially enjoyed canoeing, hiking, and cross-country skiing in Jasper National Park. He was a committed Christian and an active member of Gateway Community Church, where he served in various capacities. He was a former president of the Hinton Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Hinton Search and Rescue Board. His family, spread across the country, was very important to him, and he especially loved the time spent with his grandchildren. Annual family reunions were a highlight of each year, when many pictures were taken and many memories stored up. Byron was passionate about life, gave every task his best effort, and maintained his positive outlook and sense of humour until the end. He will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered as a caring and fun-loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at Gateway Community Church, Hinton, AB on Sunday, February 27th, at 2:00 p.m., Pastor John Klassen officiating.     3. OBIT # 8003 - EASTERN CHRONICLE - 7 FEB. 1905 Pictou, Feb.5- On Saturday, about midnight, the death occured of Isabel Troop, wife of Mr. Henry G. Ives, of Pictou. For the past year or more Mrs. Ives suffered much and repeated surgical operations gave but temporary relief. Since her return in December from Boston whither she went for treatment, small hopes for her recovery were entertained, Mrs. Ives was the eldest daughter of the late Hon. Jared C. Troop, of Bridgetown, N.S., at one time Speaker of the House of Assembly. She was in her 39th year. About fourteen years ago she came as a bride to Pictou and her home has always been a social centre. She was exceedingly kind and charitable and will be missed in many ways by the people of Pictou. Her devoted husband who spared neither effort nor expense to prolong her days is sorely bereaved and has the sincere sympathy of a wide circle of friends. Mrs. Ives leaves no children. Her mother, who has resided with her for some years, and a sister, Mrs. A.J. Stevens, of Toronto, the only surviving members of her family, were continually by her side during the past few weeks and they too will have the sympathy of very many acquaintances throughout the province. The funeral will take place at Pictou today at 3:30 p.m.

Besides his wife the former Laura VINCENT, he is survived by a son John, Tatamagouche, three daughters Lauretta (Mrs. Ernest RETTIS) Olds, Alta., Evelyn (Mrs. Cecil BLENKHORN) Tatamagouche, Elizabeth (Mrs. Kenneth SHEARER) Whitecourt, Alta., a sister Jennie (Mrs. Harold ROYAL) Truro, 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, two brothers and a sister. The body is at Coulter's Funeral Home here. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Sharon United Church Rev. Morley BENTLEY officiating. Burial will be in Lockerbie Cemetery Tatamagouche. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital.

Samuel Conrad 1931 Well-Known Farmer Passes Away at Ohio New Germany, September 30- The death of Samuel Conrad, aged 82 years, a highly respected farmer, occurred at his home at Ohio (now Simpson's Corner) on Wednesday morning. The deceased was in failing health for the past year but was noticeably on the decline since his return four weeks ago from Berwick, where he was the guest of his twin daughters, Lillian, Mrs. Grimm and Lois, Mrs. Roscoe Cook. Besides the daughters, there survive the widow; four sons, Garfield, on the home place with whom he resided, Farish of New Germany; Alden and Hildiah of Worcester; three brothers, Nathan and Lewis, New Germany; Reuben, Boston; one sister, Annie, Mrs. Samuel Cook, New Canada. The deceased was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Conrad, Upper Branch. He spent practically all his life at Ohio. He was an adherent of the United Church. The funeral service was held from his late residence on Saturday afternoon, Rev. Glen MacRae officiating.

Mrs. Samuel Conrad 1943 Bridgewater Bulletin The passing of Mrs. Samuel Conrad, a highly respected resident of Simpson's Corner, occurred at her home on Saturday evening, March 20th., after an illness of one week's duration. The late Mrs. Conrad passed her 96th. birthday in January and although confined to her bed for the past four years, was very alert mentally, always bright and cheerful and keenly interested in the happenings of the community. She was a fine needlewoman and enjoyed making quilts and doing other fancy-work. She was a devoted mother and her children meant a great deal to her. She also enjoyed visits from her friends made during the 75 years she lived in the community. Mrs. Conrad was a member of the former Congregational Church and held a steafast faith and hope in a better life beyond. Before marriage, Mrs. Conrad was Miss Jane Lohnes, daughter of the late Christopher and Elizabeth Lohnes of West Berlin. Her husband predeceased her twelve years ago. Surviving are twin daughters, Lilla, wife of Stanley A. Grimm and Lois, wife of Roscoe I. Cook, both of Berwick; four sons, Farish, New Germany; Hilkiah and Alden of Westboro, Massachusetts; Garfield, living on the family homestead in Simpson's Corner; two sisters are living in the United States. The funeral services were conducted on Thursday afternoon by Rev. W.H. Palmer of New Germany United Church who spoke very comforting words to the family and friends who had assembled at the home. Hymns sung were "Rock of Ages" and "What A Friend we Have in Jesus." Interment was made in Lakeside Cemetery, New Germany. The floral tributes were many and beautiful, testifying to the high esteem in which the deceased was held by a large circle of friends who extend their deepest sympathy to the bereaved family.
