Woodworth 1948 Bridgewater Bulletin Hemford, February 23- This community was again saddened by the passing of Silas Woodworth on Saturday afternoon, February 14, at the age of 80 years and 5 months. Although in failing health for some time, he was only confined to his bed for two weeks. Born at Simpson's Corner, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Silas Woodworth and was the last surviving member of that family. Deceased was a highly respected citizen of Hemford, where he resided since his marriage to Ceretha Mailman, on January 29, 1889 and who predeceased him seven months ago. In his younger years he was active in all community affairs and was ever willing to offer his services toward all things pertaining to the welfare of his home and community. The deceased is survived by four sons and one daughter, (Cora) Mrs. Charles Markey, Marlboro, Massachusetts; Lowell of Bridgewater; Oren, Hemford; Carson, Marlboro; and Ivan, Simpson's Corner, with whom he resided since the passing of his wife and who tenderly cared for him in his last sickness. There are also 23 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Two sons and one daughter also predeceased him. The funeral, which was largely attended, was held on Monday afternoon and was conducted by Rev. S.G. MacQueen, of the United Church, of which the deceased was a member. After a brief service at the home of his son, Ivan, the service was continued at the church. Hymns sung were "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," "Hiding in Thee," "Jeus, Keep Me Near the Cross," "Work for the Night is Coming," and "The Old Rugged Cross." Members of Primrose Lodge, I.O.O.F., of which the deceased was a member, attended in a body and conducted the committal service at the church and graveside. The pall bearers were Brother Odd Fellows, Allison Silver, Carl Hart, Howard Silver, and James McIntyre. Interment was made in the family plot at Hemford. Farewll, dear father, thy work is o'er, Thy willing hands will toil no more, A loving father, kind and true, No one on earth we'll find like you.

    3. Nellie B. Eisnor 1984 Bridgewater Bulletin Nellie Eisnor, 94, of Stanubrne, passed away March 29, 1984, at the D.M. Hospital. Born at Upper Northfield in 1889, she was the daughter of the late Ezrom and Permilla (Raimey) Eisnor. She was the last surviving member of her family and the oldest resident of the community. She is survived by a daughter, Jean; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Inez; four sisters, Idella, Grace, Ida, and Irene; three brothers, Harry, Guy, and Willard and three great grandchildren. The funeral was held on March 31, 1984, at 2 p.m. at Epworth United Church with Rev. Gary Patterson officiating. Mrs. George Zwicker was organist. Two favourite hymns of the deceased were rendered beautifully by Mary Jo Patterson. The pallbearers were Pearlie, Burpee, and Joe Slauenwhite and Douglas Morton. Interment took place at the Indian Brook Cemetery.

Born in Riverport, he was the son of the late Venice and Althea (Conrad) Wilneff. George was employed for 40 years as a sheet metal worker with Atlantic Bridge, Lunenburg. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed his family cottage. He was a member of Central United Church, Lunenburg. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. He is survived by his wife, the former Shirley Spindler; daughters, Nancy (Scott) Miller, Gillam, Manitoba; Kathy (Michael) Mulle, Blockhouse; son, David, Halifax; brother, Robert, Oakhill; grandchildren, Zackary, Cassandra, Barrett, Jennifer, and Jonathan. Spinney, who had resided on Claremont Avenue for many years died Friday afternoon in hospital in London, Ont. Mrs. Spinney was 81 and was the former Annie Cummings of Debert. She was a member of Sharon St. John United Church and of the Silver Cross Mother's Remembrance Association. She is survived by three sons: Kenneth, Stellarton; Donald, Grimsby, Ont.; Clarence, Toronto; two daughters: Evelyn (Mrs. Peter MacLellan), London, Ont.; Mary (Mrs. Walter Bigelow), New Hampshire; and one brother, Earl Cummings, Debert. She was predeceased by her husband in 1943 and by a son, James William, with the Air Force in the Second World War. The remains will rest at the R.H. Malagash, April 18 - Residents of this community were saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Mary Bell, wife of Norman MacBURNIE, at the Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche, on April 11, in her 68th year. She was born at Malagash Point on April 12, 1893, the daughter of the late Robert and Bessie STUDIVAN. For many years she was the organist of St. James Church at Upper Malagash, and was also a piano music teacher in the community for many years. She was a member of the United Church of Canada, and a member of Purity Rebekah Lodge, No. 105, at Malagash. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, (Viola), Mrs. Alfred MacCARTHY, Sheet Harbour, and (Eileen), Mrs. Gilbert LANGILLE, Fairview and three sons, Robert MacBURNIE, Pugwash, James MacBURNIE, Windsor, Ontario, and Alex MacBURNIE, Malagash. Also surviving, is a sister, Miss Florence STUDIVAN of Amherst, and 12 grandchildren. The funeral service was held Thursday, April 13, at St. James Church, Upper Malagash. Rev. John TOUCHIE, minister of the Malagash-Wallace charge of the United Church, officiated, and spoke highly of the attributes of the deceased as a wife, mother and friend. Thy hymns, "How Sweet the Name of Jesus SOUNDS," and, "The Lord is My Shepherd", were beautiful rendered by a mixed quartette, with Mrs. John G. GERGUSON, of Bayhead, organist. The pallbearers were Harold SMITH, Urban SMITH, George LANGILLE, Havelock ST. CROIX, Rumano LOCKE and Otis CLARK. Interment was in Lockerby Cemetery at Tatamagouche, with H.R. BONNYMAN Funeral Director. The floral offerings were many and beautiful, a token of love and esteem in which the deceased was held.

    3. Audrey Crouse-Bigham 1981 Bridgewater Bulletin Audrey Crouse-Bigham served as a nursing supervisor at several area hospitals. She died of cancer, October 24, at Mount Sinai Medical Centre. She was 45. Mrs. Bigham, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Everett Crouse, of West Northfield, lived in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. She received her nurse's training in Canada, before going to Cleveland and joining the staff at Mount Sinai. She became head nurse before leaving there in 1966. >From 1966 to 1968 she was head psychiatric nurse at the Hanna Pavilian of Lakeside Hospital. She returned to Canada for studies and received a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing in 1972. Later, she held positions at Huron Road and Woodruff Hospitals before being named director of nursing at Baldwin Manor Nursing Home. Sshe earned a Master's Degree from Case Western Reserve University last year and was named physchiatric nurse and clinican at St. Luke's Hospital, where she did council and group therapy for adults and children. She is survived by her husband, Jack W.; stepchildren, Barbara Ann,Jack W. Jr., and Bonnie Jean; two sisters, Marion (Mrs. Rex Bruhm) and Naomi (Mrs. LeRoy Oickle), both of West Northfield; and two brothers, Earl of West Northfield and Aubrey of Bedford.

    3. Mrs. Robert Wentzell 1936 Bridgewater Bulletin The death of Mrs. Robert Wentzell occurred at her home on Thursday, January 22nd, after an illness of six weeks at the age of 70 years. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Aseph Oickle of Lower Northfield. She is survived by her husband; one daughter, June, wife of Albert Veinot of Blockhouse. Her younger daughter, Lillian, predeceased her three years ago at Berlin, New Hampshire, wife of Albert E. Smith. She leaves eight grandchildren, four of whom she cared for after the death of their mother, until her illness. They mourn a devoted grandmother. The funeral was held on Friday afternoon at the Union Church following a brief service at the home. Rev. M. Ott, rector of the English Church, New Germany, officiated. The deceased was a devoted member of the English Church.

    3. OBIT # 8051 - EVENING NEWS - 28 JUNE 1971 New Glasgow- Typesetter and sports writer, John Dwyer Smith, died at his home, 141 MacIntosh Street, Sunday morning after a two month's illness. Known as "Tiger Jack" from his youthful days in sport, he was 64. A native of Dartmouth, he was a son of Sydney and Mary Dwyer Smith and spent all his days from boyhood in New Glasgow. He joined the staff of The Evening News 47 years ago, contributing to the sports page and the editorial page. He was uniquely able to write his stories and comments directly on the linotype. During the war years he collaborated with the late W.T. Hayden, K.C., in turning out a weekly digest of local news which was prepared so it could be clipped and sent to men in the services overseas and across Canada. Thousands were mailed out and gratefully received by men hungry for word of what was going on at home. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Hall, and two children by a previous marriage, Gordon and Ruth(Mrs. Eldridge Livingstone), seven grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Ruth Patterson in Halifax. The body is at the R.H. Porter Funeral Home where the funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Lorne Street Cemetery.

As a young lady she married John "Edison" Wentzell and they resided in Middleton throughout their married life. She is survived by her children, Murray, Maitland; Gerald (Julie), Upper Dyke; Eleanor Hornung, Kentville; Noreen (George) Brien, Centreville; Yvonne (Ralph) Mercer, Aylesford; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild. The accident also took the life of his cousin, Jamie Westhaver. Born in Halifax, he was a son of Wayne and Janie (Wethaver) Langille, Cherry Hill. A longtime fisherman for many years, he owned and operated West Nova Drywall. He loved the out of doors, enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a "jack- of-all- trades." Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Ann (McInnis) Langille; daughters, Kayla Elizabeth and Erica Christine; sons, Matthew Brian and Jordan Edward; brothers, Wayne (Cynthia), Halifax; Walter, Robert (Amanda), Cherry Hill; sister, Theresa (Stephen) Wentzell, Liverpool; nephew, Brandon; nieces, Natasha, Kelsey, and Aliesha Langille and his extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins on the South Shore, Halifax, Cape Breton, and New Brunswick. Born December 31, 1928, in New Albany, Annapolis County, he was a son of the late Ernest and Emma (Varner) Feener. Cecil worked as a shovel operator with Conrad Brothers Limited for over 35 years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, camping, and gardening. Arrangements are entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, Dartmouth, where the funeral service will be held on Friday, July 15, at 2 p.m. in the chapel, Rev. Martin Zwicker officiating. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Reception will follow in Atlantic Funeral Home Family Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.

    3. Sheila Ann Parker 2005 Halifax Chronicle Herald >From the collection of Charlene Veinotte Sheila Ann Parker, 44, LaBelle, Queens County, died July 10, 2005, at home. Born in Bridgewater, she was a daughter of Marguerite (Nowe) Mailman, Pleasant River and the late LeRoy Mailman. She was recently employed by Southwest Regional School Board. Surviving are her husband, Murray; daughter, Stephanie, at home; sister, Dale (Larry) Forrest; brothers, Dan (Debbie), Blaine (Shelley), all of Pleasant River; Donnie (Rose), Baker Settlement; Neil Fancy, Bridgewater; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by stepfather, Charles Fancy and niece, Dawn. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today in R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville. Funeral service 1 p.m. Friday in Greenfield United Baptist Church, Pastor Tom Davidson officiating. Burial in Baker Settlement Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted. Memorial donations may be made to the Epilepsy Association of Nova Scotia or Lung Association of Nova Scotia.
