Mrs. Maria Marshall 1911 On Sunday afternoon, May 14th., Mrs. Maria Marshall, passed peacefully away at the home of her son, Charles R. Marshall, Falkland Ridge, Annapolis County. Mrs. Marshall and her husband were among the first settlers in that community and endured all the hardships and privation of pioneers. They were getting along very well on the little farm he was hewing out of the forest when consumption settled in a lung made weak by a fall from the roof of his barn, and in the autumn of 1869 he passed over the river. Mrs. Marshall took up the task of providing for herself and her seven small children with remarkable energy and ability. She sewed, wove, nursed, made straw hats, did anything she could to earn an honest dollar, and succeeded in bringing up her children in an respectable manner as any of her neighbours. Mrs. Marshall united with the Baptist Church early in life and took an active part in all the departments of its works. She was a thoughtful reader and was deeply interested in whatever was being done for the good of mankind, whether at home or abroad, often giving more freely to charitable objects than some thought she could afford to give. Her youngest and her oldest children preceeded her to the land beyond. Three daughters, Mrs. Whitman, Mrs. McNayr, and Mrs. Jefferson live in the United States. Her oldest son lives on the homestead and her other son is principal of one of the Halifax Schools. Rev. Mr. McLearn conducted the funeral services, which were attended by a large number of sorrowing friends.

Outlook - Thursday, 14 July 1938 - Page 4 - Lester Allen Crushed By Tree - Kingston, July 11 - Struck by a tree in which he was engaged in felling about 9 o'clock this morning, fatal injuries were suffered by Lester Allen, 35, native of Springfield, and at the time of his death, a resident of this community. The victim of the tragedy had only returned to his native province a month ago from the United States. The accident occurred about two miles from here, where Allen was engaged in cutting trees, in the employ of Fred Munro, former Warden of Kings County. He had cut well through the trunk when the heavy tree suddenly fell, and he was unable to escape a crushing blow. It was seen at once that the man had suffered serious injuries and he was taken to the hospital in Middleton, where his death occurred shortly after admission. In addition to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Allen of Springfield, he is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Lennie Hatt of Kingston, and two children, a boy of six and a girl of seven years. It was decided an inquest was not necessary. Outlook - Thursday, 21 July 1938 - Page 4 - Lester G. Allen - The funeral of the late Lester G. Allen, of Meadowvale, who was fatally injured by a falling tree, on Monday morning, July 11th, and passed away at S.M. Hospital, Middleton, was held from his home, with services at the United Baptist Church, Tremont, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Cook. Much sympathy is felt for the family, his wife formerly Miss Lennie Hatt, daughter of Mr. Joseph Hatt and the late Mrs. Hatt; two children, Raymong and Lorna, of Meadowvale; his father, mother, three sisters and one brother, Falkland Ridge. Such times of affliction might well nigh overcome us, but for the blessed promise found in Rev. 21st chap., 4th verse, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow or crying; neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away." The largely attended funeral, and many floral offerings showed the respect of friends in this and other districts. Find A Grave Memorial 145838771
