Outlook - Thursday, 24 October 1940 - Page 1 - Mrs. Beriah S. Banks - The death of Mary Isabel Banks, widow of the late Beriah S. Banks, occurred at her home, Meadowvale, on Saturday, October 12th. Born in 1863, she was 77 years of age. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Harding Spinney, of Meadowvale. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. William Bishop, of Lawrencetown and Miss Josephine, of Moncton, N.B., and one son, Norval, at home. Five brothers also survive, William of Fitchburg, Mass.; Norval, of Springfield, Mass.; Howard, of Beachmont, Mass.; Crawley, of Belmont, Mass., and Theodore, of Meadowvale. Her husband died only two months ago. The funeral service was held on Monday, Oct. 14, at the Lower Aylesford United Baptist Church, of which Mrs. Banks had long been a member. The Rev. C.W. Cook officiated. Pallbearers were Messrs. R.C. Armstrong, E.W. Neily, A.S. Jefferson and R.A. Thompson. Arthur sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," and the choir sang the favorite hymns of Mrs. Banks, "Rock of Ages," and "Abide With Me." Interment took place in the family lot at Tremont cemetery. OBIT # 8111 - CHRONICLE-HERALD - 30 MAY 1968 Stellarton- Mrs. Claire Tilloy died Tuesday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Prendergast, Acadia Ave. She was born in France 68 years ago, a daughter of the late Edmond and Noemie Balesdent and was well-known in the town of Stellarton where she operated a store on Acadia Ave., for many years. She was a member of the Anglican Church. She is survived by three daughters, Lucienne (Mrs. Desire Doudelet); Jeanette (Mrs. George Prendergast), and Cosette (Mrs. Dana Fraser), all of Stellarton; a sister, Mrs. Clairette Copan, Plymouth, and four grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward in 1944, and by a brothers, Edmond, Max and Celest, and two sisters, Clara and Cleore. The remains will be transferred from the R.H. Porter Funeral Home and will rest at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George Prendergast, Acadia Ave. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Born in Pleasant Valley, she was a daughter of the late John and Sarah (MacDonald) Baltzer. Stella was a faithful member of the Union Church, Indian Point, where she was organist for many years. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Club, Indian Point, and was an avid fiddler who played for many dances in the area. She will be missed by all those who knew her. She is survived by her loving husband, Max; daughter, Beatrice (Joseph Lohnes), Martin's River; son, David (June) Zwicker, Bridgewater; son-in-law, Steven Varner, East LaHave; sisters, Mildred Burton, Belleville, Ontario; Emma Amirault, New Edinburgh; grandchildren, Jason, Jai, Dorothy, Jillian, Justin, and Jordan, Darlene, Paula, Elizabeth, Joanne, Charles and Monica; several great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Stella was predeceased by her daughter, Wendy Varner; son, William Carl; sisters, Marion, Margaret, Vivian, and Julia; brothers, Harold, William, Keith, and Percy. This is to correct an error in the obituary of Reuben Rafuse, that I typed last week. The correct year of his passing was 1984. His obituary was published in the Halifax Herald on November 26 and 27, 1984.
Outlook - Thursday, 22 August 1940 - Page 3 - Beriah S. Banks - On Tuesday evening, August 13th, there passed away at his home in Torbrook Mines, Beriah S. Banks, well-known citizen of the community and former school teacher. The late Mr. Banks had been in indifferent health for the past year. He was born at Meadowvale, 79 years ago, son of the late John E. and Charlotte Banks. On March 29, 1888 he was married to Mary Isabel Spinney of Meadowvale. He received his earlier education at Meadowvale, The Digby High School and Provincial Normal College, Truro. For forty years he was a successful school teacher, retiring in 1925. Among schools were Bloomington, Round Hill, Meadowvale, Torbrook Mines, Torbrook, Middleton (four years), Lawrencetown (13 years), School for the Blind (1 year), Granville Ferry and Tatmagouche. Surviving besides his wife, are two daughters and one son: Mrs. W.B. Bishop of Lawrencetown; Josephine M. Banks of Moncton, and Norval S. Banks, Torbrook Mines. A son Leslie predeceased him at Toronto in 1933. One brother also survives, Hardy E. Banks, residing in Massachusetts, and five grand-daughters. Funeral was held Thursday afternoon, August 15th, from the home followed by a service in the Tremont Baptist Church of which the deceased was a devoted member. Rev. C.W. Cook of Kingston officiated. OBIT # 8107 - EVENING NEWS - 18 JUNE 1962 Lourdes- Donald Thompson of this community passed away in the Aberdeen Hospital Saturday morning after an illness of two months. He had entered the hospital Friday. Born in Stellarton, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Thompson and would have been 83 in July. He served overseas with the Forestry Corps in the First World War, and had been a fireman with the Acadia Coal Company, working at the Allan Shaft and the Albion. He retired 12 years ago. Mr. Thompson was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34, New Glasgow. He is survived by three sisters, Miss Catherine Thompson of Cambridge, Mass.; Mrs. Alfred Kirby of New Jersey and Mrs. Caroline Lennon, Stellarton; and three brothers, David, William and Howard, all of Stellarton. The remains rested at the home of his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Thompson, Lourdes, and the funeral was held from there at 1:30 today, with Rev. D.C. Boothroyd of Sharon St. John United Church officiating. Burial was in Duff cemetery.
UNKNOWN PAPER - ABOUT 1965 - LAWRENCE KENNEDY Lawrence KENNEDY who died in the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital on June 15, and who was buried in the Bell Gift Cemetery on the 18 June, was a very popular mail driver. He was 79 years of age and had spent most of his life in this vicinity having been born in Millbrook the son of Robert KENNEDY and Violetta (MacNUTT) KENNEDY. There are no immediate survivors excepting a son Ray of Tatamagouche, his wife predeceasing him not long ago. The people on his mail route honoured him by giving money to the Hospital building fund. Pallbearers were Laurie SWAN, Carl BELL, Laurie TATTRIE, John MacKAY, Don BYERS and Charles MacBURNIE.

As a young girl she joined the Sisters of Notre Dame and lived most of her life with them at Ilchester, Maryland. Her names there was Sister Helen Ignatius. She spent those many years in God's service. Surviving ais brother, Finley, Halifax. She was predeceased by brothers, Morton, Ross; sisters, Annie Eusedia, Jessie, Gertrude. She was the former Christena MacMillan, daughter of the late MacRae and Agusta MacMillan, Hazel Glen. Although Mrs. Thompson had been in ill health for several years she kept active. She would have been 68 years old on October 24. She is survived by her husband, a son John W., in Stellarton; two daughters, Dorothy (Mrs. W.D. Forbes), New Glasgow; Eleanor (Mrs. Arthur Brown), Bridgewater; and seven grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters: Mrs. Emma Brown, Stellarton; Mrs. Lena Wood, Westville; and Mrs. Ellen Shortt of North Weymouth, Mass.; a brother, Gardner MacMillan, Westville. The remains are resting at the MacQuarrie Funeral Home, South Foord St., and the funeral will be held from First Presbyterian Church, of which Mrs. Thompson was a member, on Monday at 2:30 p.m.. UNKNOWN PAPER - MRS. RUFUS MACNUTT July 23, 1958. Barrachois - Aug. 5 The death occurred on Wednesday. July 23, of Mrs. Rufus MacNUTT at her home in Sandville. She had been in ill health for two and one half years. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George MacKAY and was born at Earltown 88 years ago. She was predeceased by her husband several years ago and is survived by three sons, Sterling at home, Ray in Blairmore, Alta., and Russel in South Africa, also one granddaughter Margaret. Funeral services were held at the home on Saturday, July 26, at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. W.N. BYERS of New Annan. Members of the choir led in singing hymns "There is Rest for the Weary" and "Shall we Gather at the River". The floral tributes were beautiful. Pallbearers were Luthur CHAMBERS, Fenton WEATHERBIE, Steward CHAMBERS, Don WEATHEBIE, Harold MacCONNELL and Roland REID. Interment was at Lockerbie's Cemetery.

Leonard - South Greenwood, Aug. 12 - On Thursday morning, August 8th at the Western Kings Memorial Hospital, Berwick, the Angel of Death unexpectedly called a well-known member of our community in the person of Ivy Maud, wife of Irving E. Leonard, at the age of forty-five years. The late Mrs. Leonard had been in her usual good health until Tuesday, when a throat infection laid her low. An operation was performed on Thursday. She failed to recover. Her sudden passing was indeed a shock to her many friends. Besides her husband, there are left to mourn the loss of a devoted and unselfish mother, three children, Irene, Mrs. Enoch Robar of Tremont; Reginald and Avard at home. Also surviving are her aged mother, Mrs. William Rice and a sister, Mrs. R.R. Smith of East Dalhousie. A brother William lives at Havelock, Ont. The funeral was held on Sunday from her late home, with burial at Greenwood cemetery. The services were conducted by her pastor, the Rev. Wallis. The pallbearers were, Messrs Arleigh Banks, Elmer Pearson, Bertram Morse, Lloyd Morse, Alfred Spinney, Lewis MacMaster. Covering the casket were masses of beautiful flowers attesting to the esteem in which she was held.

Born in East Chester, he was a son of the late Harding and Melsina (Conrad) Rafuse. He was a retired shipbuilder. He is survived by two daughters, Helen (Mrs. Keith Shaw), East Chester; Elizabeth (Mrs. Marshall Fleet), Timberlea; two sons, Ronald and Richard, both of East Chester; three foster daughters, Mrs. Muriel Boutilier, Dartmouth; Ivy (Mrs. Art Graves), Chester; Vergi (Mrs. Ivan Collicutt), Canaan; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Pauline Meisner; four brothers and three sisters. The body is in the Davis Funeral Home, Chester, where funeral will be 2 p.m. today, Rev. E.
