Born at Martin's Point, he was a son of trhe late Alexander and Jennie (Barkhouse) Barkhouse. Roy was a jack-of-all trades; he worked as a carpenter all of his life and repaired small engines. He loved the outdoors, fishing, gardening, and enjoying his family. As a hobby, he carved wooden ducks. Roy was always willing to lend a hand to his neighbours. He was a man with a gentle soul who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by sons, Oral (Denise Forand), Martin's Point; Bradley (Ann), Tantallon; Daniel (Erica Allen), Mason's Beach; and their mother, Gloria Martin, Mader's Cove; sisters, Julia Barkhouse, Martin's Point; Joy (Carl) Davidson, Windsor; brothers, Rueben Barkhouse, Rodney Barkhouse, both of Martin's Point; grandchildren, Katrina and Paige Barkhouse; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Arthur, Ralph, Russell, and Hudson. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, Lunenburg, with visitation Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and where the memorial service will be held Friday at 1 p.m., Archdeacon Duane Tanswell officiating.     3. Jeffrey Oran Woodworth 1977 Bridgewater Bulletin Jeffrey Oran woodworth, 18, of South Ohio, Yarmouth County, died as a result of a car accident late Friday night, October 14, 1977. Born October 4, 1959, in Bridgewater, he was the son of Kenneth and Pauline (Lowe) Woodworth. He was a Grade 12 student at Yarmouth Memorial High and a member of Holy Trinity Church in Yarmouth. The last two summers he spent working with Maritime Tel. and Tel. Company Limited. He leaves to mourn his mother and father; two brothers, Gregory of Hebron; Shawn, at home; three sisters, Kendra and Nadine, at home; Shelley of Halifax; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Elreta Woodworth of Hemford; and his maternal grandparents, Mrs. Greta Lowe of Hemford and Glen Lowe of Bridgewater; also a sister-in-law, Karen and a niece, Anna of Hebron; a nephew, Kenneth of Halifax. The remains rested at Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth until 1:30 p.m. Sunday, then taken to Langille's Funeral Home, New Germany. The funeral service was held at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Germany with interment at the Lutheran Cemetery, Monday, October 17, Rev. Rolf Meindl officiating. Pallbearers were Khris and Mike Hjelkrem, Howard and Allan Durkee, Chris Fry, and Stephen Harding, all from Yarmouth.

    3. Rosalie Irene Wentzell 1962 Bridgewater Bulletin Funeral services were held Friday, August 3, in Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Glen O'Connor for baby Rosalie Irene, 10 months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Wentzell, after a short illness. Left to mourn her passing are her father and mother, brothers, Russell and Roger and sister, Roxann; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Mader, Sr., Mr. Russell Wentzell of Kentville; Mrs. R. Wentzell of Torbrook; great-grandmother, Mrs. John Slauenwhite. Burial took place in the Lutheran Cemetery. Comforting words were spoken to the bereaved by Pastor O`Connor. In the place of the regular organist, David Zwicker played hymns, "Come Ye Disconsolate" and "There"s a Friend for Little Children."

Outlook - Thursday, 18 November 1954 - Page 4 - Inglis Wallace Welton - Meadowvale - This community was saddened to learn of the sudden death of one of its oldest residents Inglis Wallace Welton, on Wednesday, October 27th at the age of 86 years. He was a lifelong resident of the place, having been born here on August 18th, 1868, the son of the late Walter and Harriet (Banks) Welton. Mr. Welton was twice married, his first wife, the former Minnie Barry of Port Hawkesbury, Cape Breton, predeceased him. Of this union there were two children, a son Ernest, now living in Torbrook and a daughter, Minnie, who predeceased him in 1947. In 1917 he married Edith Petit, formerly of Hertfordshire, England, who survives him. There were two children of this union also, Willard at home, and Irene (Mrs. George Ross) presently residing in Florida, also two grandchildren, Frederick and Edith Ross; three sisters, Ccecilia (Mrs. Neily), Middleton; Blanche (Mrs. G.O. Palmer), Meadowvale, and Estelle (Mrs. Fred Taylor), Wilmot. Three sisters and two brothers predeceased him. The funeral was held from his late home on Monday, November 1st, conducted by Rev. C.W. Cook, a former pastor of this district. Hymns sung were a solo, "Some Day He'll make it Clear to Me" by H.M. Bowlby, "Abide With Me", and "In The Sweet By and By" were sung by the Tremont Choir. She worked in a cannery for awhile but most of her life was spent being a homemaker. OBIT # 8185 - EVENING NEWS - 20 OCT 1972 New Glasgow- Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Williams, who was one of those instrumental in getting the old pioneers' cemetery tidied up in the south end of the town, died in Vancouver early this month, according to word received here today. The word came in a letter from her son, Dr. D.H. Williams. Mrs. Williams, who had several books of her poems published, visited the area several times after World War II, despite advancing years.She was in her 96th year at the time of death. She had lived in New Glasgow in her youth. Pre-deceased by her husband, Angus Hugh, she is survived by the doctor, Henry Irvine; daughters Isabel Ann and Elsbeth Marion and 24 grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Tatamagouche Mountain, April 14 - After being confined to bed for some years, Joseph Gordon MacKEEN son of the late James MacKEEN and Abigail CROWE, passed away in his 83rd year, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R.W. HARRIS, where he was tenderly cared for by them for over two and one half years. The late Mr. MacKEEN lived all his life on the old homestead in Tatamagouche Mountain Section, where he farmed. He was a long-standing member of the New Annan Congregation and an elder of the Tatamagouche Mountains section of that Congregation for many years. The late Mr. MacKEEN was one of a large family of six sons and five daughters. The only surviving one is Mrs. May HARRIMAN of Malden, Mass., U.S.A., now in her 85th year, travelled from her American home to Nova Scotia by train, arriving in Truro Monday evening April 7, thence by car to Tatamagouche Mountain in order to attend her brother's funeral held on Tuesday April 8 at 2:30 p.m. from the Salem United Church with Rev. R.L. WAGNER officiating. The hymns sung by the choir were, "I came to the Garden", "Meet me There," and "We'll never say good bye in Heaven." Mrs. Helen STEVENSON was organist. Beautiful floral tributes were tokens of sympathy. The pallbearers were neighbours, Harvey MacRAE, Willis STUDIVAN, Alex MacDONALD, Earle MacNUTT and John Will SUTHERLAND and Harry LANGILLE. Interment was at Tatamagouche Mountain Cemetery. Two nieces and two nephews of Massachusetts also survive. (Note: The date is from hand a written copy of this obituary.

Afflicited with a severe form of rheumatoid arthritis 25 years ago, she valiantly maintained her household until the time of her hospitalization on May 30, 2005. Marion is survived by her daughter, Deanna (David) Dauphinee, Lunenburg; her granddaughters, Nancy (Mark) Selig, Garden Lots; Debbie, Lunenburg; Tracey (Scott) Hartling, Bridgewater; great-grandchildren, Max, Amy, and Mia Hartling. She will be missed by her precious cat, Tyler. Also surviving are her sister, Verna Feindel and her family, Dorchester, New Brunswick; several nieces and nephews, with whom she was very close. She was predeceased by her husband, Philip; parents, William and Pearl Veneau; sisters, Mae Dares, Olive Walters, Kaye Clarke and brother, Donald Veneau. Mrs. Laurie Hiltz 1942 Bridgewater Bulletin Friends throughout the province were saddened to learn of the passing of Florence Grace, wife of Laurie Hiltz, of Lake Ramsay, which occurred at the D.M. Hospital, Bridgewater, on Sunday, August 9th. The late Mrs. Hiltz had been seriously ill for the past six weeks and her passing at the early age of 38 years is deeply regretted by a wide circle of friends. Mrs. Hiltz was before marriage Miss Florence Grace Powers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Powers of Pinehurst. She was twice married. Her first husband was Arnold Meisner and of this marriage, a son, Arnold, who resides with his grandparents in Pinehurst, survives. Her second husband was Laurie Hiltz of Lake Ramsay. Mrs. Hiltz had been an efficient and popular school teacher, and had taught for thirteen years in Lunenburg County and for three years in Worcester, Massachusetts. She will be fondly remembered by former pupils as a kind and understanding teacher. For a number of years, she resided in New Germany, where she was primary teacher in North Rosedale School and during that time she was leader of young people's work in the Lutheran Church. She also took an active part in community life at Lake Ramsay. Surviving are her husband; son, Arnold; her parents; three sisters, Miss Maie Powers, Bridgewater; Stella, Mrs. J.A. New Germany Man Dies in Boston 1927 Halifax Chronicle Herald New Germany, March 3- Harris Powers left on Tuesday morning for Boston where he was called by his sister, Mrs. Arnold Meisner, whose husband died on Tuesday in the Worcester Hospital. Mr. Meisner, who was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Meisner of Stanley Section, about four months ago, injured himself while lifting a heavy weight, which caused hemmorhage of the lungs which ended in death. The deceased was only 23 years of age, successful in business and highly respected by all who knew him. Besides his paresnts, a sister, Miss Alice Meisner, Mrs. Stuart Hirtle of Boston; three brothers, a widow and a week old infant are left to mourn their loss. The body will be brought home for interment.

She was the former Etta Louise Smith, daughter of the late George and Agnes (Cruickshank) Smith.She had been a resident of Iron Ore, for over 40 years and for the past fifteen years had made her home here where she was well and widely known. She was a former member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, East River, and for many years a member of First Presbyterian Church here. Mrs. Whyte was a Life Member of the WMS of the Presbyterian Church in Canada and a valued member of the Senior WMS of First Church here. She is survived by her husband, three daughters, Gladys (Mrs. Clarence Best,Sr.), Ethel (Mrs. Laurel Flinton), both of New Glasgow, Vivian Joyce (Mrs. Harvey Ryan), RR1, Westville; a son, George, St. Catherine's , Ont.; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Hiram, Country Harbor and Lindsay, Hopewell. She was predeceased by a daughter, Ruth, several sisters and one brother. The remains will rest at the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home after 7 o'clock this evening and the funeral will be held from there on Thursday at 2 p.m. with the interment to follow in Sunnybrae Cemetery.

Surviving are her husband Leslie, five sons and five daughters. Albert, New Glasgow, Aubrey, Austin, and James, Tatamagouche, Henry, Truro, Mrs. Thelma VENO, Viva (Mrs. Otis TATTRIE), Mrs. Wilena TATTRIE, Corinne (Mrs. Freeman LANGILLE) all of Tatamagouche, and Lila (Mrs. Howard FORBES) Pugwash, 30 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, and one great-great- grandchild. She was predeceased by two sisters. A family service was held Sunday evening at MacLeod's Funeral Home, Denmark led by Rev. Ken ROBINSON. The largely attended funeral was held Monday, July 10, from Sharon United Church, Tatamagouche. Rev. Ken ROBINSON officiating. The favourite hymn of the deceased "In the Garden" was sung by the quartet, Jock COULTER sung a solo, "How Great Thou Art". Honorary pallbearers were Woodrow TAYLOR, Howard ELLIOT, Ernest CAMERON, Charles ROSS, and Donald KEELER. Pallbearers were Cameron VENO, Phillip VENO, Eric FORBES, Boyd TATTRIE, and Trueman TATTRIE, all grandsons of the deceased. The grandchildren carried the flowers. Welch, 79, of Tremont, formerly of Wolfville, died Wednesday in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Diligent River, she was the former Evelyn Beatrice Canning, a daughter of the late Henry and Jessica (Baxter) Canning. She was a former member of Wolfville Baptist Church, the choir, a member of the I.O.D.E., a former member of the Sweet Adeline Barber Shoppers. She was a retired retail merchant, Evelyn's Ladies and Children's Wear, Wolfville, and former member of the University Choral group. Surviving besides her husband are a son Ronald, Tremont; two brothers, Hedley, Londonderry; Earl, Newton Mills; two sisters, Frances (Mrs. Wilfred Wier), Windsor; Mrs. Irene Spicer, Parrsboro; and a grandchild. She was predeceased by three brothers, Chapman, Emerson and Presley, a sister Marguerite, and a granddaughter. The body is at Warren T. Roop Funeral Home, Middleton, Funeral service will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Tremont Baptist Church, Rev. John Leddicote officiating. Burial will be in Tremont cemetery.     3. Mrs. Hugh D. Rhodenizer 1968 Bridgewater Bulletin Mrs. Ida Fanella Rhodenizer, widow of Hugh D. Rhodenizer, passed at her residence, 9 Alexandra Avenue on Wednesday, October 9th., at the age of 87 years. Born at West Northfield, she was the only daughter of the late Charles and Amelia (Rhodenizer) Feener. She is survived by four sons, Charles, West Northfield; Raymond, Fred, and Aubrey L., Bridgewater; one daughter, Hilda (Mrs. Neil Sharpham), Halifax; eight grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. One son, Lawrence, predeceased her in 1932. Funeral services were held from Bridgewater United Church on October 11th., at 2:00 p. conducted by Rev. R.H. Mills. Mrs. Helen Killam was organist and the choir was in attendance. Pallbearers were grandsons, Stuart, Freddie Jr., David, and Glen Rhodenizer, Neil Sharpham, and grandson-in-law, Ralph Zinck. Interment was in Maple Grove Cemetery at West Northfield.
