She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hale of Westville. She is survived by two sons, two daughters and six grandchildren; also one sister, Mrs. G.E. Dawson, three brothers, William and Tupper Hale of Westville and Alfred of Cumberland, R.I. Her husband predeceased her three months ago. William Hale, Mr. and Mrs. Seton Hale of Westville, and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred White of Alma attended the funeral in Rhode Island.
UNKNOWN PAPER - 1935 - HUGH MUNRO MACDONALD Hugh Munro MacDONALD passed away at the Homeopathic Hospital Providence R.I. on January 24, 1935. He was always on active and hearty man and after an illness of about one week when he contracted a heavy cold which developed into influenza and pneumonia. Mr. MacDONALD was of good old Highland Scotch stock being the second son of the late Chistena and Peter MacDONALD of Earltown, Nova Scotia. He was born in New Annan, Sep. 21st, 1860, and spent a great part of his younger life in the lumbering business in Nova Scotia and settled in Providence about 22 years ago. He married Madeona Vaughan ROSS of Weymouth, Mass., in 1914. His widow resides in Providence, R.I. He is also survived by his brother R.D. MacDONALD of Tatamagouche and his sister Janie (Mrs. W. LOWRY) of 181 Rounds Ave. Providence, R.I. and two nieces Mrs. W.E. TUCKER of Tatamagouche and Mrs. Fred L. PARKS, Providence, and nephew Ervin MICHEL Naval Officer U.S. Navy. He has many relatives in Boston and vicinity. He was predeceased by a brother Alex and a sister Mrs. Margaret LINDSAY of Belmont, N.S. some years ago. Funeral service was held at the Tublin Funeral Chapel on Brood St. Providence and Interment was made at the Mount Hope Cemetery South Weymouth, Mass.
Outlook - Thursday, 11 July 1940 - Page 1 - Fred Clarence Barkhouse - There passed away at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax, June 26th, Fred Barkhouse, of Tremont, as the result of injuries sustained at Auburn, on the 20th. He was the son of Mrs. Rose Barkhouse and the late Simon Barkhouse. Fred was born in Lakeview, Kings County, in 1906, and lived there until 1922, when he moved to Tremont with his parents. Since then, with the exception of a few years spent in the U.S.A., he has lived in Tremont. He gained a large number of friends wherever he went, and they were overwhelmed by the tragedy which caused his untimely death. He was a young man of sterling character, and was a most esteemed citizen. Fred always took part in community activities and was a loyal member of the Sunday School and choir. Funeral service was conducted at the Baptist Church in Tremont on Friday, with Rev. E.L. Tuck of Auburn, officiating, assisted by Rev. C.W. Cook, Kingston. Mr. Cook paid a fitting tribute to the deceased mentioning how trustworthy and honourable he was in all walks of life. A beautiful solo was rendered by Mrs. Enos Varner. Gunner Carroll St.Clair Conrad 1944 Bridgewater Bulletin New Canada- The tragedy of warfare was deeply felt by relatives and friends when it was learned that Gunner Carroll St.Clair Conrad was killed in action in Italy on September 14. He was 27 years of age, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Conrad. He is survived by his parents, his wife, Florence Elizabeth; two small daughters, Elixabeth, 3 years old and Carolyn, 7 months old; three brothers, at home and sister, Vera (Mrs. LeRoy Cook), Lower Branch. He enlisted May 28, 1941 and took his training at McNab's Island, Halifax, on the Searchlight Battery. He arrived overseas September 14, 1943 and fought in the battles at North Africa and Italy. An impressive memorial service was held in the Baptist Church on Sunday, October 15, conducted by Lic. L.T. Seamone, who spoke comforting words from the text," Being dead, yet he speaketh." Many people attended the service to pay their last respects to a brave soldier, who made the supreme sacrifice. In letters of sympathy received by Mrs. Conrad from Carroll's Lieutenant-Colonel and Major, they spoke highly of his excellent courage. Quoting words of the Major:" I can speak with knowledge of his soldierly courage and integrity and I shall miss him as one with whom I was proud to serve." On September 15, a burial service was held and Carroll and his comrades were buried side by side.

Born in Inwood, Manitoba, he was the eldest son of the late Anna and Gustav Gullikson. He served in the RCAF during the Second World War. He rejoined the RCAF in 1951 and served until 1975 when he started to work at Michelin in Bridgewater. He was a member of Bridgewater United Church, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24, Bridgewater; the Michelin Retirees Club and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour. He is survived by his wife, the former Anne Murray; son, Jamie (Rachel), Ottawa; daughter, Shelley (Geoff), Halifax; sisters, Doreen (Joe Persoage), Marion (Dave McCulloch), Muriel (Don Perry); brother, Ralph, all of Winnipeg. He was predeceased by sister, Iva; and brother, Donnie. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in Bridgewater United Church, Rev. Ivan Norton officiating. She was a loving wife, proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. OBIT # 8246 - EVENING NEWS - 9 APRIL 1963 Stellarton- Fred Lewis Blair, general manager of Industrial Estates Limited in its early years, died unexpectedly at his home on Young Ave., Halifax, Monday afternoon. Mr. Blair had been in Merigomish attending a funeral Sunday. Monday morning he suffered a heart attack and died within a few hours. He was born 61 years ago in Stellarton, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Blair. He held responsible posts with Canada Packers in Ontario for many years before rerturning to his native province to run Industrial Estates when the Crown corporation was formed. After seeing IEL thriving, he went back into private business. and was associated with several firms, chief of which was Louisport Wholesale in Newfoundland. He maintained his head office in Halifax and commuted between the two provinces. Mr. Blair was a member of the Presbyterian Church, of the Masonic Order and of the Rotary Club. He went overseas with the 85th Battalion at the age of 14 in the First World War. Mr. Blair is survived by his wife, the former Olive Fraser of Stellarton; two daughters, Olive, his private secretary, Halifax; and Peggy (Mrs. Keiller Bently), Baddeck; two sons, Norval in Newfoundland and Dale at home; two sisters, Hazel (Mrs. Frank MacDonald, Merigomish; and Essie (Mrs. W. K. Murray), Meadowville; three brothers, Douglas in Vancouver; Havelock in Stellarton and Gordon in New York. A brother Norval was killed overseas in the First World War. The remains are resting at MacAskill's Funeral Home, 184 Quinpool Road, Halifax, from where the funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m., with interment in Halifax.
UNKNOWN PAPER - MABEL COCK 1951. Central New Annan, March 20 - The death occurred at the Fraser Memorial Outpost Hospital, Tatamagouche, on Wednesday afternoon, March 14, of Mrs. Mabel COCK widow of the late C.J. COCK in her 68 year. Although she had not been enjoying good health for some time, her condition was not serious until about two weeks before her death, when she suffered an attack of Influenza congestion of the lungs and paralytic strokes. She was a woman of quiet disposition, whose efforts were untiring in doing good for others. A good neighbour and mother she will be greatly missed by all. She was a member of the United Church, United W.M.S. and Red Cross. The funeral service was held from the Central New Annan Church on Friday March 16 at 2 p.m. Rev R.E. WAGNER officiating. Hymns sung were "The Hands of Time are Sinking", "The Golden Key" and "Good Night and Good Morning." In her immediate family there are left to mourn their loss one daughter (Dorothy) Mrs. Harold TUCKER; five sons, Arnold and Bill of Great Village, Randall who is working in Stewiacke; Dan in Central New Annan; and James in Ontario, who was unable to be present at the funeral. She also leaves one sister Mrs. Adella AITCHESON, Malagash, and one brother Calvin MacNUTT, North River. Her husband passed away a few years ago, and several brothers and sisters predeceased her. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William MacNUTT of Tatamagouche Mountain. Pallbearers were all nephews of the deceased, Aubrey WILSON, James AITCHESON, Keith COCK, Stirling MacNUTT, David DELL and Carl BELL. Floral tributes were many and beautiful testifying to the esteem in which she was held by friends and family. Interment was in Conkey's Cemetery Tatamagouche Mountain.

UNKNOWN PAPER - MARY MACKAY There passed away on Sunday evening Jan 3, 1932, at the home of her daughter Mrs. James COX, Riversdale, Mrs. Mary MacKAY, wife of the late George F. MacKAY at the age of 69 years. Her death came as a great shock to her many friends as she was only confined to her room for 10 days. Until a few minutes of her death she was bright and cheerful but was weakened by heart failure and failed to rally, and passed peacefully to her eternal rest on the above mentioned date. She is survived by two daughters Mrs. James COX, Riversdale and Mrs. Walter WORTMAN of Salisbury, N.B. and three brothers, A.C. WALL at the home residence Riversdale, William J. of New Glasgow and Edward WALL of Truro. The funeral service was held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the home of her daughter Mrs. James COX and was conducted by the Rev. J.W. GODFREY and was assisted by Rev. Mr. TOWNSEND. The Hymns sung were favorites of the deceased "Asleep in Jesus", "Nearer My God to Thee" in addition to the hymns sung there was a solo "There is no Work in Heaven" by Miss Robina JOHNSON Valley Stn. The pallbearers were friends of the deceased, Lawrence McKAY, Albert THORPE, David YOULDS, Hughie McLELLAN. The floral tributes were beautiful. The body was laid to rest in McLeon's Cemetery at Riversdale.
OBIT # 8244 - EVENING NEWS - 26 AUG 1963 Stellarton- Mrs. R.M. Benvie, Sr., widow of Dr. Benvie, died Sunday morning in the Aberdeen Hospital where she had been a patient for several months. Mrs. Benvie's name was synonymous with music in this area where she was a leader in musical and cultural life. She was especially interested in the violin she herself played and taught from girlhood on. Her great love of the violin she shared with others wholeheartedly and she was always ready to lend a helping hand at community functions. Mrs.Benvie was the former Mary Ann Murray, a daughter of the late James H, and Christine Murray and was 76 on March 23. She attended Stellarton schools and the Halifax Ladies' College. She was a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, a graduate of the Halifax Conservatory, in 1910. She then went to London, England, for a year's study and on her return to Canada received an LRSM from the late Iflan Williams, Halifax. She was a life member of the Music Teachers of Nova Scotia and an honary member of the Ladies Music Club of New Glasgow. Mrs. Benvie taught music in Stellarton, Pictou and Scotsburn, formed a junior orchestra and a community symphony orchestra made up of local musicians. She was a member of Sharon St. John United Church and of the women's organizations, and on many a church anniversity was requested to play for special services. She is survived by a son, Robert Murray Benvie, a brother, Harry Murray, New Glasgow. She was predeceased by a brother Robert (Roe) Munro Murray; and three half-brothers James, Joe and Willard. The remains are resting at her late home, South Foord Street and the funeral will be held Tuesday at 2:30 from Sharon St. John United Church.
