Born in New Ross, he was a son of the late Foreman and Margurite( Walker) Levy. Sperry was a resident of Pomquet for the past three years and prior to that resided in Coalburn for a number of years. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. In his early years he was employed with Warren Maritimes Paving Company. Sperry received great joy from fishing and dancing. Surviving are daughters, Kathy (Peter) Vanedam, Pomquet; Heather(Richard) Boussard, Monastery; son, Kenneth (Evelyn) Levy, London, Ontario; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Eileen (Jackie) Bowles, New Glasgow; Robert (Juanita) Koszkulics, Donnie (Margie) Koszkulics, George (Liz) Koszkulics; sisters, Anne Mosher, Three Mile Plains; Ina (Bernie) Smith, Greewich, Kings County; brothers, Foster (Shirley), Aylesford; Carroll (Ella Jean), Vaughan; Roy (Amelda) and Vernon (Bonnie), both of New Ross; his former wife,Theresa Levy, Monastery. Born in New Germany, Nova Scotia, she lived in Brockton for the past 30 years. She leaves a brother, Aseph Flemming, of New Germany; two sisters, Mrs. Lottie B. Smith, of Lynn; and Mrs. Edith Hamm, of New Germany and several nieces and nephews. Service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in the W.C. Goodrich Funeral Home, 128 Washington Street, with burial in Pine Grove Cemetery.
OBIT # 9463 - UNKNOWN PAPER - 5 MAY 1947 Upper Musquodoboit - May 5 - Samuel Archibald, 94, grand old man of the Musquodoboit Valley, died here at 10am after an illness of less than two weeks. He suffered a heavy fall about ten days ago and although he did not break any bones, he had steadily declined since. Mr Archibald, son of the late Squire David Archibald and his wife Margaret Archibald was one of the sturdiest citizens who ever lived in this valley. Two years ago at the age of 92, he engaged in logging operations and actually cut down large trees with an axe. His health had been uniformly good until a few weeks before his death. The Archibalds were Pioneer settlers in the Musquodoboit Valley and the farm on which he lived was once occupied by William Annand and also for a period by the great Joseph Howe, who retired there for about two years to engage in literary and other efforts. Mr. Archibald's wife, the former Ida Dunlap of Upper Stewiake, predeceased him. Surviving are four daughters:Alice (Mrs Jack Creighton), Westville, Nettie (Mrs Lester Ross) Estevan, Saskatchewan, Jessie (Mrs Ivan Ross) Estevan, Blanche (Mrs Lynds MacRae), British Columbia. Two surviving sons, Harold, Upper Musquodoboit, and David, Los Angeles. A third son William predeceased him. The funeral will take place at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from St. James United Church with a private service at the house at 2:15.

Born in Hedgeville, she was the former Nettie ALLAN, daughter of the late Charles and Isabel (REDMOND) ALLAN. She was a member of the Disciples of Christ Church, River John, and a member of the Women's Missionary Society. She was a former Sunday School teacher and former member of the Women's Institute and Red Cross. Surviving are a son George, Rock Island, Que.; a daughter Greta (Mrs. Alex MacKAY), Tatamagouche; a brother Warren, Auburndale, Mass.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, a sister and five brothers. The body is in MacLeod's Funeral Home, River John. Funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the Disciples of Christ Church, River John, Rev. Mrs. Alvin Gates 1936 Bridgewater Bulletin In the sudden death of Mrs. Alvin Gates, which occurred at her home in Stanburne, early Thursday morning, May 13th, the entire community was shocked and have sustained a great loss. The deceased was before her marriage Miss Melissa Gates, daughter of the late Elias and Lydia Varner and was born at New Germany 72 years ago. She was of a loving and bright disposition, endearing herself to all who knew her, and will be greatly missed in the home circle and community. Her friends will recall many happy days spent at her home where she gave everyone a hearty welcome. She was a life-long and faithful member of the Anglican Church. Surviving are the sorrowing husband and one son, Sumner, who with his wife and two children, Harold and Minnie, reside at home; six brothers, Obed, Charles, Joshua, New Germany; Kenneth and Henry, Stanburne; Uriah, Dorchester, Massachusetts; and one sister, Millie (Mrs. Stuart), Milton, Massachusetts. The funeral services on Saturday afternoon were conducted at the home and grave by Rev. G. Ott and were largely attended. The floral tributes were beautiful, testifying to the esteem in which the deceased was held. The bereaved family has the sympathy of a large circle of friends.
Beatrice Louise Anderson 2000 Halifax Chronicle Herald >From the collection of Gwen Christie Beatrice Louise Anderson - A long-time resident of Halifax and a former provincial president of the I.O.D.E. and past regent of the Archibald MacMechan Chapter, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000. She was born March 5, 1904, in Lunenburg, to Lewis H. and Ida C. (Knickle) Smith. She graduated from Lunenburg Academy and Acadia University and then taught at the Lunenburg Academy. At the 100th reunion of the Academy in 1995, Beatrice was the oldest former teacher in attendance. She met her husband, G. Douglas Anderson while attending Acadia University. She was a tireless volunteer with the I.O.D.E. canteen and tea room during the Second World War and was a long standing member of the Halifax Curling Club, the Antiquarian Club and the Saraquay Club. In 1992, she was inducted to the Acadia University Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the 1925 Basketball Championship Team. She was a member of St. Andrew's United Church, Halifax. Beatrice was predeceased by her husband, Douglas; sisters, Ethelyn Walker and Lucille Reid; her grandson, Thomas Douglas "Tede", niece, Barbara Walker. She is survived by son, David Anderson (Patricia), West Vancouver; daughter, Karine Renton (David), Halifax; grandchildren, Bea Renton Winter, Lunenburg; Rachel Renton Fleming, Boston; Suzanne Anderson, Cayman Islands; Mark Anderson, Vancouver. Although in frail health for the past year , Mr Deckman was about his chores as usual last evening, but suffered a heart attack soon after retiring and died in a few minutes, before medical aid reached him.His wife, Jane Holman, predeceased him 24 years ago, and he is survived by 3 daughters, Lottie (Mrs Robert Barker), Keene, New Hampshire, May (Mrs Frank Reid) Keene, New Hampshire, and Ethel at home, and by one sister, Lenora(Mrs Henry Stewart), who also lived at home with him. Four brothers, one a medical doctor predeceased him. He was the son of John Grant Deckman and Margaret Ann Logan. Down through the years the Deckman home has been well known as one of kindly hospitality and the deceased was a highly respected prosperous farmer.He was a life-long member of the local church and served as Trustee of St. James United Church up to the time of his death and for many years was a member of the board of managers.His death came on his 57th wedding anniversary.Funeral services will be held from the home at 1:30 and St. James Church at 2 o'clock on Sunday.

Born in Shelburne on June 21, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Evelyn (Harris) Bower (Upper Ohio). She graduated from Shelburne Regional High School and was employed by CIBC. She resided in Toronto, Stellarton, Hebbville, and of late, Upper Ohio. She loved quilt making, curling, and jigsaw puzzles. She was a wiling worker for the Dawson Daisy, Hebbville Fire Department, and many community affairs but her greatest devotion was to homemaking and her family. In 1970 she unselfishly donated a kidney to her brother, Alan, in a lifesaving transplant. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Leslie; sons, Blaine (Tina), Upper Ohio; Wade (Heather), Hebbville; John (Lisa), Lower Ohio; her cherished grandchildren, Lucas, Sarah, Trevor, and Jamie; brother, Alan (Barbara), Upper Ohio; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Philip Reginald Jodrey 2006 Halifax Chronicle Herald Philip Reginald Jodrey, 80, Watford, passed away peacefully with his family at his side March 4, 2006, in Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown, after a brief stay. Born in Watford, he was a son of the late Theophilus and Edna (Whynot) Jodrey. He was a farmer and a trucker for most of his life, retiring as a foreman with the Nova Scotia Department of Highways. He was a member of the Anglican Church and enjoyed spending his time with family and camping; he also enjoyed helping his neighbours, whether it was with a little carpentry or helping paint a house. She became a member of the Salvation Army Corps during her teen years in Liverpool and her leadership qualitities were soon evident as she was appointed to Women's Social Work during which time her dietary training was completed. Her active service as an officer of 40 years was spent in various provinces and cities such as Saint John, Montreal, Toronto, Belleville, London, Hamilton, Winnipeg, Brandon, and Halifax. She was honourably retired in 1966 from St. John's, Newfoundland. Following her retirement, she continued serving within the Liverpool Corps as a local officer for an additional 25 years, Surviving are sisters, Mrs. Lilly White, Western Head; Mrs. Ruth Silmarie, Brooklyn; several nieces, nephews; great-nieces and nephews; great- great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Gladys, Letty, Freda in infancy; brothers, Clarence, Raymond, and Russell. He was an avid amd accomplished golfer and was a member of the Brightwood Golf and Country Club for many years. He was an active member on the finance and building committees. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Hilda Bell (Francis); daughters, Joanne, Haifax; Terry (Tony Goode), Dartmouth; Julie (Steven) Dore, Ottawa; grandchildren, Charles Goode, Lennoxville; Jonathan Goode, Toronto; Elizabeth and Andrew Dore, Ottawa and his niece and nephew. Lawrence Richard Seldon 2001 Halifax Chronicle Herald Lawrence Richard Seldon, 77, South Brookfield, died peacefully, Tuesday, December 4, 2001, at home. Born in Timmins, Ontario, he was a son of the late Lockland and Beulah (Telfer) Seldon. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas with the Royal Canadian Army Signal Corps. Following the war, he worked with Bowater Mersey Paper Company Limited in various capacities. He went on to become a grader operator for the Department of Transportation and later was superinendent for the County of Queens before retiring after 32 years service. Following his retirement from the Department of Transportation, he rejoined Bowater Mersey and tended gates and did road patrol in West Brook and Rossignol. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He was a member of the North Queens Fire Fighters Association and past president of A.L. Patterson, Branch 87, Royal Canadian Legion, Caledonia and the Queens County Exhibition. He was a recipient of the Provincail Volunteer Award. He is survived by his wife, the former Joyce Martin; daughter, Joanne (Terry), North Brookfield; sons, Richard (Christine), Halifax; Mitchell, Edson, Alberta; Neil (Wanda), Port Mouton; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Alwilda (George) Zwicker, Beach Meadows; Gertrude Selig, Harmony Mills; brother, Francis, Douglas Point, Ontario; half-sisters, Florence (Robert) Douglas, Moncton; Marie Montgomery, Liverpool; half brothers, Basil Carver (Catherine), John Seldon (Wendy), both of Alberta; Nelson Seldon, Dartmouth. The death occurred at his home at Bedford Hillo, New York, where he had been a successful physician for a number of years. He was born here in Greenwood and after attending school here he studied at Dalhousie Medical School from which he graduated in 1921. From there he went to Oklahoma, USA, where he practised for the Rockefeller Institute for a few years then moved to the place where he passed away. Besides his wife Marie, an American girl, and a daughter Mary, he is survived by 2 brothers, Aubrey at the old home, Edward in South America, and 2 sisters, Irene (Mrs Fred McIntosh) of Jedburgh, Saskatchewan, and Gertrude (Mrs Eugene Peachey) of Briercrest, Saskatchewan.
