Born in Buckfield, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Gladys (Wile) Whynot. She took a very active role in many charitable organizations and her church. As a life long learner, whether reading or travelling, she enjoyed sharing her interest in current events with her many friends. She graduated as a registered nurse from the former Grace Maternity Hospital in Halifax and found great comfort in caring for others. She was an active member of the Ashburn Golf Club, St. John's United Church, spent her winters in Florida, was an accomplished amateur artist. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Surviving are her daughter, Linda Cruikshank and son-in-law, Bruce Cruikshank and their sons, Christopher, Halifax; Brian, Golden, British Columbia; Lindsay Melnick Manuel, Fredericton; Leslie Melnick Manuel, Moncton; daughters of David and Donna Manuel Donna Manuel New Glasgow. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, George; son, David; sisters, Hazel (Mrs. Percy Seamone)(Bridgewater); Marion (Mrs. John Knowlton) (Kingston, Ontario); brothers, Wilbert, Harris, Forrest, Bruce (Lunenburg). The family is deeply appreciative to the staff, especially the nurses and LPN's for the compassionate care given to her during her stays at 8.1 Halifax Infirmary, TransitionalCare Unit, VG Hospital and Parkland Estates. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visiotrs 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, both in Cruikshank's Funeral Home, Robie Street, Halifax. Born in Bayport, he was a son of the late Murray and Erna (Demone) Spindler. Bobby started his working career with the Progress Enterprise Newspaper and then went on to work with Wamboldt's Meat Market. He later went to work as a meat cutter for 35 years with Oxner's IGA. After his retirement, he worked part-time with local grocers cutting meat. He was a member of Trinity United Church, Rose Bay. In his spare time, Bobby could always be found boating and spending time with family and friends at Cross Island. He is survived by his wife, the former Marguerite Zwicker; daughter, Tina Hingley, Riverport; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Spindler, Riverport; grandchildren, Crystal, Jennifer, Julie, Corey, Ted, and Katie; great-grandchild, Lynton; sister, Diane (Jack) Cook, Bayport; brothers, Clyde (Mary Hickey), First South; Rickey (Nancy), Bayport; and Wayne (Marlene), First South. Born in Dominion, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Mary (MacLeod) Campbell graduated from Sydney Academy and later she attended Nova Scotia Teachers' College. Ruth was a teacher in Mahone Bay and Dominion. She later was principal at Mahone Bay School and worked as a librarian at Saint Mary's University. She had great interest in the Elder Learners Program, Halifax. She was a member of the United Church of Canada. Surviving are sons, Garth, Calgary; Thane (Maureen), Nova Scotia; sister-in-law, Ethel Campbell, Dominion. She was the last remaining member of her immediate family. Letitia Pearl Thompson 2003 Halifax Chronicle Herald Published: Saturday, June 7, 2003. >From the collection of Gwen Christie Letitia Pearl Thompson, White Rapids Manor, Fredericton Junction, formerly of Liverpool, died peacefully in the manor on June 6, 2003, at the age of 93. She was a daughter of the late Robert and Lilia (Locke) Mullins (Shelburne) and the wife of the late Thomas W. Thompson (Liverpool). Letitia moved to Saint John in September 1986, one year following the death of her husband. She resided in Liverpool for over 50 years. She was an active member of the United Baptist Church. She took a seamstress course early into her marriage and continued to sew and had a great interest in crafts. After moving to Saint John she won many awards at the Atlantic National Exhibition and at the nursing home. She also took a Saint John Ambulance course at Queens General Hospital in Liverpool. She loved house plants and was an avid gardener. Letitia also attended the Glen Falls Gems in Saint John. She is survived by daughter, Loretta P. Walsh (William) and grandchildren, Shaune Walsh Daigle (Daniel), Fredericton; Gaye Anne Thompson Walsh, Saint John; and Michael Thomas Walsh, Braintree, Massachusetts. Letitia was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by brothers, Cecil and William; sisters, Jane and Myrtle. Resting in Chandllers' Funeral Home, Liverpool, with visitation Sunday from 7:30-9:30 p.m., followed by the funeral service in the funeral home chapel Monday at 2 p.m. and interment in Zion United Cemetery. Born in Bridgewater, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Thelma (Beck) Crouse. Over the years, she had cared for many people's children in their homes, while raising her own family. She was always known for making sure everyone was happy and went home with lots of food if they came for supper. She was a courageous person and accepted every aspect of her illness with the attitude," I'll take it as it comes to me," and in doing so, never had a complaint. She will be sadly missed by all the people she has touched and became "Mom" to. She loved her pets and would not settle in for the night until every one was in her sight. She will be especially missed by her cats, Ewok and Winky, who never left her side during her illness and her last days. She will be greatly missed by all of her family, her son, Brian and daughter, Tracy,who kept her comfortable at home during her illness. Effie, a daughter of the late John Ernest and Bernice Margaret (Hubley) Strothard, born in Yarmouth on August 12, 1910, was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her daughter, Philomene (Bernard) Baker; granddaughter, Carol Ann (Richard) Mosher, and great-granddaughter, Sarah, all of Lunenburg; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceaased by her husband, J. Lewis Arenburg; infant granddaughter, Mary Jane; sisters, Catherine (Vernon) Wilkie, Clarice (Stuart) Parks, and Jean (Harold) Crouse. Effie was a faithful member of St. John Anglican Church, serving for 25 years on the Chancel Guild and was also a member of the Ladies Aid. He was a school bus driver and mechanic for 24 years and was a member of Greenfield United Baptist Church before transferring his membership to Buckfield United Baptist Church. He was a former superintendent of Greenfield United Baptist Church Sunday School and an honourary member of the Greenfield Fire Department. Surviving besides his wife, Ivy (Fraser) are his daughter, Esther Ward of Greedfield and his son, Ronald (Kathryn) of Greenfield; grandchildren, June (Dwane) Lawson, Trevor (Lisa) Ramey, and Nicholas Ramey, all of Greenfield; great-granddaughter, Brooke Lawson and step great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Shelby, and Kayla Freeman; his brother, Irvin (Geraldine) of Bridgewater. Born in Liverpool, Ann was the loving daughter of Harold and Elizabeth (Roy) Whynt of Liverpool. Ann's greatest love was her family, with whom she shared many wonderful moments that will be forever cherished. Ann had many interests, some of those were colllecting antiques, decorating, fine jewelery, pottery, and spending time with those close to her. Among her many talents were quilting, sewing, stain glass, rug hooking, jewelery making and shopping. Through Ann's love of dogs she made many friendships. Ann worked in many places over the years, most recent was providing private home care. She also worked at the Inlet Cafe and Mimi's, among others. She was a courier for Purolator and worked in retail, where she did some modeling. Ann touched the lives of everyone who had the pleasure to know her, her smile, kisses and infectious laugh will be greatly missed. Holden was born in East Chester, the eldest son of John Clifford and Dorothy Mae (Armstrong) Stevens. He retired from Canexel Hardboard Plant, East River in 1988, after 17 years of service. He spent many of his retirement years being very active while enjoying camping, his four-wheeler, splitting wood, and helping his friend, Dave, in his sawmill. He was always happy to meet his grandchildren at the school bus stop. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. Sam spent 43 years fishing, starting his career on schooners as a young man, and in later years he was the skipper of the Marion Crouse and then the Elizabeth Ann until his retirement. He took great pleasure in quilting and rug hooking during his spare time. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 23, Lunenburg and the Unity Lodge 4 of the Masonic Order. He was also a member of Wesley United Church, Feltzen South. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Gwendolyn Corkum; daughter, Jocelyn and her companion Brian Robar, Saint John; son, Michael and his wife Connie, Fletcher's Lake; sisters, Eva (Mrs. Fred Dares), Beatrice (Mrs. Gordon Tanner), and Elizabeth Hubley and her companion Harvey Rafuse, all of Bayport; sister-in-law, Virginia Corkum, East LaHave; grandchildren, Daniel and his companion Laura, Graham, and Elisa. She is survived by her daughter, Muriel McNairn, Halifax; granddaughters, Lynn McNairn (Dave Morash), Meagher's Grant; Nancy McNairn, Toronto; great-grandchildren, Tara Keel and Jason Stoeber, Dartmouth. She was predeceased by her husband, Allan; sisters, Maude Corbin, Jean Bellefontaine, Ellen and Lucy Vaughan, Clara Richardson; brothers, Colin, Robie, George, Frank, Laurence, John, Gilbert, and Clyde. The family will receive visitors today, March 11, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax. Clare Augustus Zinck 2003 Halifax Chronicle Herald >From the collection of Charlene Veinotte Clare Augustus Zinck, 84, High Crest Nursing Home, Sherbrooke, formerly of Marie Joseph, Guysborough County, died Sunday, December 28, 2003, in High Crest Nursing Home. Born February 11, 1919, in Marie Joseph, he was a son of the late Ralph and Margaret Belle (Hartling) Zinck. He served with the armed services during the Second World War. He worked for many years with Acadian Lines Bus Company in Halifax. He owned and operated Zinck's Bus Company until his retirement. He was a lifelong member of St. Matthew's Anglican Church, Marie Joseph and was a warden of the church for many years. He is survived by brothers, Aldon, Watt Section; Laurie, Marie Joseph; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Murray, Stanley, and Roy. Cremation has taken place. No visitation or service by request. A private committal service will take place at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Ecum Secum Funeral Home. No flowers by request.
