Hello Mia - I don't have the information you are looking for, but I am interested in Stephen Steele. He was ordained by the Free Christian Baptists about 1840 on Digby Neck as pastor of a FCB Church in that area. Ten years later he joined the Church of Christ and according to Wilson's History of Digby County he was baptised over again - this time presumably for the remission of sins. (Wilson, page 252-253) (See also page 419-420) Steele then became an Elder of the Church of Christ in Southville near Weymouth, where he served for the next fifty years. If you have any information about Elder Steele or his descendants I would be interested in it. There is a brief mention of Stephen Steele in this book on line about the Disciples of Nova Scotia. http://www.mun.ca/rels/restmov/texts/rbutchart/dcc/DCC23.HTM#Sec17 Scroll down to Southville church section. My interest was primarily the South Range section, but have read with interest the remaining sections. The book is archived on http://www.mun.ca/rels/restmov/index.html which is hosted by the University of Newfoundland. Hans has a number of pages on Newfoundland in another area of the website. One of the names I have been looking for is a Morgan Lewis who may have remained a baptist. His daughter married into the family after they converted from the Baptists. My greatgrandfather is Hiram Sabean. He married Sarah Isabell Lewis. They then moved to Washington state after the birth of several children. I found this book trying to locate my ancestors the Sabean and Lewis family in Nova Scotia. My ancestor (Benjamin Sabean) was a deacon and later an elder at the South Range church in Digby. His father was one of the founding members of the Baptist Church of Digby, which the reference I have references Sissiboo. There was a mention of this along with some obits in a publication called the Christian Messenger. The librarian at Abilene Christian University in Texas has looked at their archives for both the American and British Christian Messenger which were prominent in Churches of Christ/Christian Church circles but could find no obits in referenced issues and the search involved several years either side of the dates given. It may be that this publication was perhaps a Baptist publication in Canada.
