Howdy Folks! Okay, having been on this list many a year, I figure it's the best option for finding out how the early GERMAN family sorts out. Seeing as I've been in touch with a few researching these names, I'm wondering if someone out there can offer a good accounting of the early generations of this family in Digby County? My direct interest is in John German/Germaine, b. 1840, who married Susan Ossinger, b. 1845. They married in 1864, so it's impossible to use the 1871 Census as a guide. I suspect John is son of Thomas b. 1795, but have concerns he may also have been a grandson of Thomas or Thomas' ?brother?, George b. 1789. Surely he is NOT a son of George b. 1814, as he was not mentioned in his obituary, but was still living in 1906 when George (b. 1814) passed. Also, to which Ossinger group might Susan belong? Another find of interest when accumulating information on Ernest (son of John), is to find a Mary German, b. May-1897 or 1898, listed in one case as grandaughter of John in 1901, then, as daughter of both Ernest AND John (double enumeration) in the 1911 Census! As Ernest was SINGLE in 1901, it is difficult to set Mary (b. 1897/98) into HIS family. Especially since he had his OWN daughter, Mary, b. 1906. How DOES the Mary German b. 1897/98 fit into this family? Well, that SHOULD do for now.... think I'll cross-post this to the NS list as well!
