I am the 2nd great granddaughter of a Maria Mussels Bennett who was the d/o of James Mussels b around 1808 and Harriett nee Webber b about 1812 presumed both born in Granville Anapolis (James and Harriett and their daughter Celeste appear in the 1881 Canadian Census in Broad Cove - Harriet/James and Celeste are buried at Port Wade Cemetery) Celeste was married to a Cook. My Maria Catherine was born around 1845 in NS and so far I've come up empty for James and Harriett and my tie in to Maria other than the marriage registry in Boston when she married Bennett. Records in Boston from 1878 list Maria Mussels as the d/o James and Harriett of NS - Maria I believe came to Mass around 1870-1879 to live with her brother Albert and then married Mr. Bennett originally of Maine (2nd marriage for Bennett). William W. Bennett was the son of William Bennett and Lois Flint. My interest is in Digby/Annapolis in that there are a clan of Webbers who lived in Chester NS who came from Maine in the 1760s - my family lore has our Webbers coming from Maine with English Roots versus German from SC or direct from England. From what I can gather the Mussells/Mussels came directly from England to Canada - it's the Webbers that I am having problems figuring out. There is a Joseph and a Joel Webber who were very prominent in the settling of Digby I was hoping that someone could help me figure out who Joseph and Joel belonged to and where they came from. Some records that I have read and seen list Joseph as a Famer and Joel as a Sea Captain - presumed to be brothers since they are both listed in the same land grant petition. Does anyone know where Joel and Joseph came from? Via work by Virginia Smith on her Chester Webber line - she has been to NS and gone through records up there and has a Joel Webber married to a wife Abigail and several children all born in the late 1700s. Virginia's work however can not tie the Digby Webbers into the Chester Webbers from New England. Children of Joel Webber and Abigail (Granville, NS Joseph b 1786 bachelor died around 1868 John b. 1787 (who I think could be the father of the Harriett that I am looking for - I know nothing about ( Zeb b 1890 Sarah b. 1793 m. John Fowler Phoebe b. 1793 m. Benjamin Mcoll - died 1820 James b. 1797 m. Elizabeth Vanblaricome Charlot b. 1799 d 1821 Abigail b. 1801 ?? Ann m. Willaim Rickle It's quite possible that John b. 1787 is the father of Harriett which ties into names my family has passed down. I also have names of other webbers from Nova Scotia that were married in at other times to Mussells, but still working on Harriett my webbers would have been in the Broad Cove, Granville, Digby, Annapolis area - and were presumed to be King's loyalists during the Rev. War. Any help in Canada - Digby or sourinding areas would be appreciated - Please feel free to contact me directly at jeffkarmil@yahoo.com Thanks mucho.
