Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SOC.2ACE/893.1 Message Board Post: Hi Wally, From notes that I have on the Samuel Tidd family, I believe it goes thus : Private Samuel Tidd was at Flushing, Long Island, on 17 June 1781, with Col. Beverley Robinson's Company, the Loyal American Regiment. He was a Loyalist at Digby in 1784 (see Muster Roll). His wife's name was Elizabeth ___ ? He appears to have died before 31 Jan 1801, when his "heirs" received a grant at Digby. He also purchased land at Tiverton, on Long Island, Digby County from John Caldwell (on 1 Oct 1788). His widow, later married Martin Blackford. (source - Glimpses of the Past from Long and Brier Islands, by Donald Outhouse). His known children were : Samuel Tidd Jr. who married Mary Anna McDormand, David Tidd who married Rachel Caldwell (daughter of John, above), and Elizabeth Tidd who married John Archibald, of East Ferry. These children of Samuel Tidd Sr., left Digby County - Samuel Tidd Jr. went to Ontario (possibly married a second time), David Tidd moved to Houlton, Maine, and Elizabeth! and husband to St. John, New Brunswick. Samuel Tidd Jr. had children : (1) Mary Tidd (b. ca 1805), (2) Ann Tidd (b. ca 1805) , (3) James Tidd (b. ca 1808), Cornelius Tidd (b. ca 1811) , (4) Joseph Tidd Sr. (b. 1 April 1812) , (5) Samuel Tidd (3rd) (b. 1820 - 4 Sept 1904) . These children remained in Digby County. Samuel Tidd (3rd) aka Samuel Teed, settled at Freeport, Digby County, where he married Sarah Emily Bates. Samuel was a Master Mariner who operated a trade out of Freeport, with the West Indies. He had a wharf and a Store where he sold supplies and groceries. Samuel Teed also had a son named Samuel who, I believe was lost at sea. Much of the above comes from the research of Sheryl Stanton and the website of Carole Garron - which can be seen at http://www.webination.com/garron/ Hope this helps some, John
