In 1868, he was Captain of two-masted Brigantine SOUTHERN CROSS - his birthplace also given as Digby, N.S. Possibly this is your great- grandfather ? >From another researcher : Major Brown was married to Mary Ann Ryan, of Marshalltown, near Digby, and had children - Walter, James, Mary Jane (md. John Henry "Harry" Browne, of Cornwallis),Carrie, Elizabeth, and Isaiah. " Some of the family went to R.I., as Mary Ann died there in 1908, and Carrie and Elizabeth married there " ( quote from researcher).I'll check to see if I have anything more.
