Pearl, the six year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Garfield Thurber, was burned to death. She was playing on the shore and set fire to a bag which she got from her father's fishhouse. The fire caught in her clothing and she died in a few hours " (source: Freeport column, the Digby Courier, Aug 29, 1913.). Pearl was actually the daughter of James Edmund Dukeshire (b. 1869) and Annie P.( Tidd) Dukeshire (b.ca.1867). After the death of Pearl's parents, she was adopted by Garfield and Hattie (Haines) Thurber. Pearl's sister, Ethel, was raised by Capt. John W. Thurber and Emily (Tidd) Thurber (her aunt and uncle - and my grandparents). John and Garfield Thurber were brothers. Ethel Dukeshire later married Ralph Hersey, of Freeport. Anyone know what happened to James Dukeshire and Annie Priscilla Tidd Dukeshire ? Appreciate any help, John Thurber
