As I remember there were two men from Bear River lost on the boat - a number of the men who came on the boat to the gypsum wharf (at maybe Deep Brook?) left the boat because they said it was not seaworthy. Work was scarce in the area and that is why many local men signed on to take their place for the trip to New England.I believe the names of the men from Bear River was Rice - I was very young at the time and it would be interesting to read the article and see how accurate my memory is.
