Your e-mail got me reading my Digby book again as the names you mentioned sounded familiar Here is a passage: early in 1770, Samuel Harris, Esquire of Horton Nova Scotia located a farm now owned by Mr. William S Cossett of Smith's Cove. He endeavored to persuade others to follow his example. Mr Thomas Hamilton and Mr. John Dickson natives of Grandville NS having wandered down the Northern Bay in search of most promising location for prosecuting their fishing business decided to become founders of British tenure at Sandy Cove. Consequently Mr. Hamilton with his partner and three sons located near the shore on farm lately owned by Mr. Thomas Crowell. This occurred May 12 1778. Although they neglected to apply immediately for Grants Mr. Botsford Agent for the Loyalists recommended they be included in the second Township Grant which was cheerfully done. Archibald son of Thomas Hamilton was allowed to commodious tract beside his father's liberal apportionment. Great credit is due these pioneers for isolating themselves from their friends and the world for the heroic purpose of settling and cultivating the dense forests. I didn't see the Knight before so that sure helps. Know Archibald Hamilton and Mary McGregor were the parents of Henry Hamilton that married Mary Rice. Feel sure this is the right church and right pew. > Will try and check out Rufus. > We know one of the youngest Hamiltons, Jeremiah married to Sarah Rumery, moved to Lubec, MA along with Mary McGregor Hamiltons second marriage to Danial Van Velsor > I think one of the Hamilton children of Arch and Mary also married a Van Velsor...... > > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 >
