I would not bet the farm on it but I would say the chances are pretty good that they are at least related in someway. Mary was from County Tyrone, her daughter, Grace Darling Ellis married John Ross, whose father, Oliver Ross was born in Newton Stewart, County Tyrone. It could very well be they arrived in Nova Scotia on the same boat! I have not pursued an investigation into the Hazelton family, and I have plenty on my plate at this time, but it does look like an interesting trail. If I do come up with anything, I'll be sure to let you know. By the way, my original information on Mary Hazelton came from Mike Bailey <[email protected]>. Best of luck with your research. Ron
"David Hazelton, the older of the two Nova Scotias believed to be brothers, was born about 1812 and was married probably in Ireland circa 1840, to Margaret Norris. They relocated about 1850 to Marshalltown, Digby Co. , in NS where they farmed the land. David died at the age of 43 on Aug. 6,1855 and was buried in the Trinity Anglican Cemetery in Digby. His widow, Margaret was not enumerated in the 1861 Census of Digby, Although her sister, Elizabeth was listed on 30 March 1861, as widowed and the head of her household which included at least two of Margaret's children."
