    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SOC.2ACE/1356 Message Board Post: Marshall -------- Suddenly at Bear River, July 7th, Mrs. W.F. Marshall. Her death was occasioned by heart failure, and occurred while sitting in her chair. Mrs. Marshall was a native of Bridgetown, where she was born in 1820. Her maiden name was Mary A. Marshall. Since her marriage to Capt. W.F. Marshall of this place she has resided in Bear River. Converted to God in her early life she was not baptized until after her marriage when she was baptized into this church by Rev. Mr. McLean who many years was a pastor here. Mrs Marshall was the mother of four children. Two of these survive her. Of reserved temperament and possessed of a meek and quiet spirit, she adorned well her Christian profession. Her memory is fragrant. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved husband and daughters in their sad and sudden bereavement. From the Baptist paper: Messenger and Visitor: 1891, Aug. 1891

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SOC.2ACE/1352 Message Board Post: DAVIS ------ Drowned at Sandy Cove, N.S., August 23rd 1891, Frederick Davis in the 17th year of his age. Freddy belonged to Westport, N.S. but was fishing in St. Mary's Bay with his father and elder brother. At the time of the accident the vessel was at anchor in Sandy Cove; and he along with others went in bathing. He was a good swimmer, but had some heart trouble, and it is thought that the shock from bathing affected the action of the heart and death was the result. The father and the brother started at once for home with the body. The fog was dense and it was almost a perfect calm, so they were left to the mercy of the tide for twenty four hours. The sad news reached home by telephone and the young men manned their boats and went in search of the vessel. They soon found them in their sadness and towed them into Westport. By this sad calamity a gloom has been cast over a happy home and over the community generally, but God's grace supports the! sorrowing, and prayer rises from many hearts in their behalf and also for young men who are not prepared to meet God. The father of the deceased wishes publicly to thank the young men who came to his relief in that time of sore need. From the Baptist paper: Messenger and Visitor, 1891 September 23rd issue

That might help some. Travel between Nova Scotia and Boston was extremely common in the 1800's and into early 1900's, mostly by ship. In fact a person in southwestern Nova Scotia was more likely to have visited Boston than to have ever gotten as far as Halifax, Nova Scotia's capital. Everyone had a "Boston Aunt". 1. Nelson Miller 1811- 1894
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SOC.2ACE/1349 Message Board Post: Miller --- Nelson Miller had his birth at Bear River, Digby Co., on the 9th day of september, 1811. Here he was permitted to spend the 83 years allotted to him. The call to his heavenly home came to him on the 14th day of November, 1894. In his young manhood's days he came to the consciousness of Christ as his Saviour, and to his service he gave himself in fellowship with the First Hillsburg church, of which the late Rev. H. Saunders was the pastor. The wife of his early choosing, with whom in happy accord he had lived more than 60 years passed on to the "better land" just three months before him. These aged servants of the Lord were patterns of industry, economy and piety; though subject to all the infirmities of the flesh and spirit in all that pertained to the welfare of the church of Christ they were joyous. They with their early associates -- the most of whom have passed on before them -- did much to prepare the church of their choice for its present prospe! rty. The memory of the justified is blessed. I believe she was Mary Belle's aunt. Mary's mother was Jane Spavold, daughter of William and Philena (Warner) Spavold. Susan was also married to a Barr, whose first name escapes me at the moment. Philena and Mary Belle lived with them after William's death. The information I'm actually interested in, which seems to be buried somewhere, is who Mary Belle's father was. There was no father listed when her birth was registered and I am very curious. She was my great-grandmother. Anyway, thank you so much for the information! Best, Jan
