Surnames: Israel Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.canada.novascotia.digby/200.5.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Dear June Justice Crawford-- I'm Charles Israel, Jr., of Charlotte, NC, in the direct line from Solomon Israel who married Mary Johnston in 1734 at St. George's Episcopal in Hempstead, New York. I'm especially interested in receiving the Solomon Israel Family Newsletter; and the DNA testing that seems to point to the Sephardic Jewish origins of the family. What do you know about whether we're related to folks (Salomon Israel, David Israel) who were in Barbados or Nevis, ca. 1680s-1708? Any information would be great. Thank you. Charles Israel, Jr.

    1. [CAN-NS-DIGBY] Marriage c 1819/20 of John Clark and Ruth Hamilton
    2. Winifred K Miller
    3. I am not sure of the parents of John Clark that married Ruth Hamilton c 1819. I know Ruth's background from Henry Hamilton married to Mary Rice. Have a will of Archibald Hamilton and Mary McGregor the parents of Henry Hamilton. Do not have a marriage date of John Clark and Ruth Hamilton. I believe John may have a brother Samuel and Jonah Clark that were born in NS and came to Ontario, Canada. Know they lived in the same area and Jonah Clark signed for John Clark to marry his second wife Charlotte Mills. John received land from a William Clark and Mary in Ontario. Know William Clark came from England with his four children and without his wife, Dorothy Stonehouse. He married a Mary James, widow. Haven't proved for sure any connection. I have two grants for a John and William Clark from New England to Ontario from Lord Talbot c 1823. Know their is smoke just can't find the fire. Louisville, KY USA

    1. [CAN-NS-DIGBY] German/Germain/Germain early in Digby?
    2. Jared Handspicker
    3. Howdy Folks! Okay, having been on this list many a year, I figure it's the best option for finding out how the early GERMAN family sorts out. Seeing as I've been in touch with a few researching these names, I'm wondering if someone out there can offer a good accounting of the early generations of this family in Digby County? My direct interest is in John German/Germaine, b. 1840, who married Susan Ossinger, b. 1845. They married in 1864, so it's impossible to use the 1871 Census as a guide. I suspect John is son of Thomas b. 1795, but have concerns he may also have been a grandson of Thomas or Thomas' ?brother?, George b. 1789. Surely he is NOT a son of George b. 1814, as he was not mentioned in his obituary, but was still living in 1906 when George (b. 1814) passed. Also, to which Ossinger group might Susan belong? Another find of interest when accumulating information on Ernest (son of John), is to find a Mary German, b. May-1897 or 1898, listed in one case as grandaughter of John in 1901, then, as daughter of both Ernest AND John (double enumeration) in the 1911 Census! As Ernest was SINGLE in 1901, it is difficult to set Mary (b. 1897/98) into HIS family. Especially since he had his OWN daughter, Mary, b. 1906. How DOES the Mary German b. 1897/98 fit into this family? Well, that SHOULD do for now.... think I'll cross-post this to the NS list as well! 1. Re: [CAN-NS-DIGBY] Digby County
    2. I would very much like to obtain a copy of the latest work on the Digby Courier to go with the earlier books which I now have. No price is given in the e-mail, and I would appreciate it if you could tell me where to order it and the price. My home is Bear River, though I have now lived in Barrington for 45 years. When I was growing up in Bear River the Courier was part of our family, and many of my friends and relatives are found there. 1. [CAN-NS-DIGBY] Handspiker Website - Updated
    2. Jared Handspicker
    3. Hey folks, For any of you who happen to have Handspiker connections, and many of you who don't, I have recently updated my online database. It's a new look and feel, one that I happen to like, even though I've yet to master some of the style sheet issues and therefore have NOT yet included the many pictures that will, eventually, find their way to those pages. I have left the original database intact, which is still reachable via: http://www.jedh.com/src/genealogy/hpkr/ The new one is at: http://www.jedh.com/src/genealogy/hpkr2/INDEX.HTM What's the difference you ask? Well, aside from look and feel, and navigation differences, there are an additional 7,000 individuals listed, among more than 3,000 additional families to my last update, a couple of years ago. Looking forward to hearing from you with both types of opinions... :-) Jared "Jed" Handspicker jedh@jedh.com
