Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SOC.2ACE/780.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Thanks for the reply. I have found Gilberts fathers middle name was Joseph Stephen and locals has said they 'thought' Maragets maiden name was Amero also( Alphonse Amero, her father??) That info was merely hearsay though. Gilbert was born March 2, 1920 and died Feb. 21, 1976. I don't see Basil listed as a brother but I have these siblings...Cecil, Arthur, Roy, Everett(drowned as a young man in Footes Lake, Plympton), William, Gertrude, Vera, and Vienna. Does this help?? It has been really hard to get info on this line. Thanks. Juanita

I think this might be Joseph Amero and Margaret Thibodeau who are Gilbert's parents. In which case, did Gilbert have a brother called Basil Richard? I have seen these names somewhere. Let me have a scout around, and I will see where I can find information for you. So many names in my head, it's like a phone book! But I will try to remember where I saw this couple mentioned. By the way, what year was Gilbert born? Might help if I know what dates to search roughly. Sue :o)

Nova Scotians on the NOVADOC were Lloyd and Chipman Rice, sons of Robert Rice,of Bear River,Digby County; Robert and James Vroom, sons of Major and Mrs. R.J. Vroom, of Deep Brook; John and William Francis, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Francis, of Smith's Cove ; Sherman Higgins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Higgins, Bear River ( my cousin, and formerly of Freeport) ; Gerald Porter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Porter, Hill Grove ; and Ralph Peters, age 23, of Rossway, Digby County. Two female cooks were aboard, one was Mrs. Marcus Larson, of Windsor, N.S., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Ettinger, of Windsor. I have the article (which has pictures of Robert Vroom and Gerald Porter (thanks to Gail Metcalfe), if you would like an email copy. The article, we believe, is from the Digby Courier. John Thurber

As I remember there were two men from Bear River lost on the boat - a number of the men who came on the boat to the gypsum wharf (at maybe Deep Brook?) left the boat because they said it was not seaworthy. Work was scarce in the area and that is why many local men signed on to take their place for the trip to New England.I believe the names of the men from Bear River was Rice - I was very young at the time and it would be interesting to read the article and see how accurate my memory is. Surnames: Boutilier, Morehouse, Gidney Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SOC.2ACE/824 Message Board Post: In connection with my maternal ancestry, I am researching various Boutilier lines linked to St. Margaret's Bay, Nova Scotia. I am interested in finding out more about Thomas "Alfred" BOUTILIER (b. 3 Oct. 1859, St. Margaret's Bay, Halifax Co.; d. 4 May 1921 in Centreville) and his descendants in Digby County. I have found references to marriages between an Alfred BOUTILIER and Rhoda Emma MOREHOUSE (m. 3 March 1888; 4 children, I believe); Lizzie Augusta MOREHOUSE (m. 2 or 12 Jan. 1905) and Frances Crosby GIDNEY (m. 1 Sept. 1917). I am interested in sorting out which Alfred Boutilier was the groom in each of these marriages. I have also found information about Maj. Alfred T. BOUTILIER (b. about 1918 in Centreville; d. about 25 Feb. 1990 in New Smyrna Beach, FL) who was, I think, the son of Alfred and Frances (GIDNEY) BOUTILIER. He had a brother, Angus BOUTILIER who lived in Centreville or Port Midway. Can anyone help me in sorting out the various BOUTILIER families of Centreville?

The Methodist church no longer stands, however the tombstones are still there. on the church grounds. I know when this methodist church and the methodist church in Bloomfield closed up they moved their congregations to Weymouth. I would try the Digby Methodist church and or the Weymouth Methodist church. But Methodist's, like Baptists, never preserved their records as well as the Catholics and Anglicans in this area.
