Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SOC.2ACE/828 Message Board Post: Derek: The name Goudy is unfamiliary to me. I know that there were several "children" in that family, my grandfather (Frank S. Lent) being one of them. I have all the other names in my file somewhere, and can look them up if you wish. Dr. Lent was born in Freeport, Digby Co., N.S. on June 10, 1872. He was extremely well educated, with a Dr of Divinity, Dr of Laws, and PhD. He attended Brown Univ., Newton Theological Inst., Yale (PhD), Brown (DD), and Colgate (LLD). Besides pastoring churches he taught at Brown and Yale, and became President of Elmira College, NY, in `1918. He also was President of the Conn. Baptist Convention prior to Elmira, in 1915 and 1917. He retired from Elmira in June 1935, and passed away in December 1942. Freeport certainly can be proud of having such a man as their native son. Do you live in Freeport? I know that many members of the Thurber family came from there. I have visited there many times, - the last being over 20 years ago, and have always loved the place. Please feel free to correspond with me via e-mail - [email protected] Frank

I don't think this is the Joseph and Margaret I was thinking of, but I'm asking around to see if anyone has heard of them. Do you know anything about the circumstances of the drowning? Our grandfather was in a canoing accident in which a young man drowned, in Plympton. (Granddad managed to swim ashore). That was about 1928 or so. Bit of a long shot, but I thought I'd ask. Will let you know what I find, if anything. Sue :o)

He was my great-uncle on my mother's side, and I remember meeting him when I was a small boy. He was president of Elmira College, Elmira, New York for some time, and I contacted the archives department of the college for information on him, which they furnished. I have done considerable research on the Lent family, and can tell you that he was one of the most outstanding personalities that I have run across. What a man he must have been!!
