My grandmother was Daisey Bell, her parents Herbert (Hibbie) who died in 1965, her mother Mary Adeline Burton who I believe died 1918>. Herberts parents Benjamin Warren and Annie Potter. I don't know who Benjamin's parents were but just above that I believe that Benjamin's father was the son of Samuel Warne and Sarah Fairchild.and Samuel's father was Samuel Waren and MargaretArgents. Benjamin's father is the unknown firstly which would allow me to connect to Samuel. (That sounds so confusing doesn't it!). My mother was Daisy's daughter Colleen. I really hope you can assist as I live in British Columbia which makes it difficult to gather info. I do have the County of Digby book which has helped a little and Luella Marshall has been able to help with sending me Herberts obituary which has filled in some info on children etc. Also have communicated a little bit with Barbara King through her son's e-mail and I have sent her some info and a few pictures.. Thank you so much for answering my call, I will gladly share the little I have including pictures of Daisy and her husband Edward and I have a few pictures of my greatgrandfather Hibbie. Gail Quigley

This is one of the widely accepted theories with regard to this family however there are some inconsistencies that I would like to clear up and it centres around Samuel Tidd/Teed b/1820 so if anybody has anything such as newspaper items, birth or baptism or marriage records it would really be appreciated and might be the final link to my family history which is nearly completed. thanks Wally

Good morning, I'd like to ask if anyone is researching LEWIS children who arrived in Nova Scotia .... as "British Home Children." According to the records at the web site for the National Archives of Canada, over ..220 .. of the Home Children .. had the surname, LEWIS. And, I think about 2 dozen of them .. were sent to Halifax. My great-grandfather, John "Stanley" Lewis, was born in Liverpool, England, in 1859. In 1873, he was sent to the Liverpool Sheltering Home. And, in 1874, he was shipped to Halifax, NS. ... I believe he might have had an older sister, Jane Lewis, come over to Halifax .. in the late 1860's. She married a Robert Thompson. On the same ship with my great-grandfather were 3 Lewis girls: Josephine, also 14 ... and then Elizabeth, 9, and Mary, 7. I have not been able to find any information on them, so I do not know if they were related. That same summer (1874) .. five CORKILL siblings .. who grew up in Liverpool, England,* were shipped to Halifax, NS. The oldest was Mary Elizabeth .. and she married "Stanley" Lewis in Truro, NS, in 1879. In 1881, "Stanley" and Mary migrated to Boston, MA. They had 13 children there. I have found out that Julia Corkill became Mrs. Julia McNUTT, and Esther Corkill became Mrs. Esther COFFIN. Two much younger brothers were John, 5, and Robert, 3. In his 30's, John married a Miss CHISHOLM. I have not found out what happened to Robert, but I know his surname became CORKHILL, and he was still in the FERGUSON home at Age 10. (Each one of the children arriving in the 1870's .. went to live in different ..homes.. in NS.) *Evan Corkill, the father, was originally from the Isle of Man. .... I am also descended from four RICE cousins who migrated to Nova Scotia in the 1790's. They settled in Digby. But, right around 1800, several of the families moved across the water into Lubec and Eastport, ME. That's where my great-great-grandfather, Charles Wellington Rice, was born around 1850. Thank you for your time. Betty (near Lowell, MA) http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~britishhomechildren/

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SOC.2ACE/893.1 Message Board Post: Hi Wally, From notes that I have on the Samuel Tidd family, I believe it goes thus : Private Samuel Tidd was at Flushing, Long Island, on 17 June 1781, with Col. Beverley Robinson's Company, the Loyal American Regiment. He was a Loyalist at Digby in 1784 (see Muster Roll). His wife's name was Elizabeth ___ ? He appears to have died before 31 Jan 1801, when his "heirs" received a grant at Digby. He also purchased land at Tiverton, on Long Island, Digby County from John Caldwell (on 1 Oct 1788). His widow, later married Martin Blackford. (source - Glimpses of the Past from Long and Brier Islands, by Donald Outhouse). His known children were : Samuel Tidd Jr. who married Mary Anna McDormand, David Tidd who married Rachel Caldwell (daughter of John, above), and Elizabeth Tidd who married John Archibald, of East Ferry. These children of Samuel Tidd Sr., left Digby County - Samuel Tidd Jr. went to Ontario (possibly married a second time), David Tidd moved to Houlton, Maine, and Elizabeth! and husband to St. John, New Brunswick. Samuel Tidd Jr. had children : (1) Mary Tidd (b. ca 1805), (2) Ann Tidd (b. ca 1805) , (3) James Tidd (b. ca 1808), Cornelius Tidd (b. ca 1811) , (4) Joseph Tidd Sr. (b. 1 April 1812) , (5) Samuel Tidd (3rd) (b. 1820 - 4 Sept 1904) . These children remained in Digby County. Samuel Tidd (3rd) aka Samuel Teed, settled at Freeport, Digby County, where he married Sarah Emily Bates. Samuel was a Master Mariner who operated a trade out of Freeport, with the West Indies. He had a wharf and a Store where he sold supplies and groceries. Samuel Teed also had a son named Samuel who, I believe was lost at sea. Much of the above comes from the research of Sheryl Stanton and the website of Carole Garron - which can be seen at http://www.webination.com/garron/ Hope this helps some, John

Does anyone have information that might help me to determine the parentage or the birthplace of one known as Capt. Samuel Teed who is buried at Hilltop Cemetary born 1820 and died 1904. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SOC.2ACE/892 Message Board Post: Hi Folks, Looking for some clarification on the Shippy Lent(s) of Freeport : -- Melissa Thurber (b. ca 1839), daughter of Benjamin N. Thurber and Lucretia Lent, married in 1859, at Digby, JAMES S. LENT, according to the birth records of children. Children of this family were -- (1) Charles (b. ca 1863) (2) Jesse Goodwin Lent (b. 3 Aug 1869), (3) and (4) Lena Louella and Lizzie Laleah ( twins b. 3 April 1873). Also, saw somewhere, another (possible) child - Byron Shippy Lent (b. 11 Dec 1876) - but no proof yet. The 1871 Census lists two " Shippy" Lents --(1)-- Shippy Lent, age 35, Ship Captain, Melissa, wife, age 32, and children - Charles and Jesse (as above). (2)-- Shippy Lent, age 32, Storekeeper, Euphemia(Euphemia Agusto Moore md.Shippy Lent, on 3 Dec 1857 - J.T.), wife, age 31, and children - Emma (12), George (10), Frank ( 8), Delisle ( 4 ), and living with them , Polly, widow, age 73 ( the widow of Shippy Lent, Sr.? - his 2nd wife's name was Mary.). Another source says that Melissa Thurber md. John S. Lent? In the cemetery (Hilltop) at Freeport -- in the Lent plot are : Shippy S. Lent - d. 1851 ( this would be Shippy Lent Sr., I believe), also John S. Lent - d. 1877 and his daughter, Annie M. - d.1871, also Sarah L., daughter of Shippy and Melissa - d. 1868. Was Melissa's husband John S. Lent or James S. Lent ? Did two, by the name of Shippy Lent, live in the same village at the same time ? Was Melissa's husband from the Freeport Lent families, or did he come from Weymouth or elsewhere ? Any help, thoughts, opinions, greatly appreciated. Thanks, John
